Hurtling Towards A New Character Reveal

While going alongside the new battlepass with revealing vicious new character skins for our beloved heroes, we also gained a new hero this season. Our last hero that was introduced to the game was in season 4, a healer, a support named Lifeweaver. He took the game by storm, everyone tried him out and was mesmerized by his ability and fighting style containing lotus’, thorns, and a pulsing tree of life to heal teammates and block enemy fire.

In this new season, it is yet again another healer named Illari. After the trailer was released, we were able to see an example of Illaris abilities, but not to the full extent. After the season was released, we finally got to practice her healing abilities.

Firstly, Illari is of Peruvian descent. She speaks in Quechuan, an indigenous language and heritage derived from Peru. Her costumes include a Llama Pajama set and a Quechua styled set. Both are symbolism of what are dear to her and her ethnicity. Llamas have a strong association in Peru, hence her Pajama set.

As a healer, we are introduced to a new set of abilities. For Illari, her powers are based off of solar energy, which we see her reload her weapon with. If we press R2, we shoot a repetitive shot almost like Ana’s shooting style to damage other players. But if we press and hold L2, Illari shoots a beam of solar energy to heal her other teammates.

Then, if we press L1, we have a dashing ability to either get away from other players or push them back. We can use her dashing ability to get away from other players ultimates, such as Orisa’s which can be fairly useful. Another healing ability she has is a device similar to Symmetra’s beams where Illari can throw it on an object, high or low, which will heal teammates when close by and will continue healing you until destroyed. It is a fairly useful ability.

Lastly, her ultimate ability is called Captive Sun. Illari is able to charges herself up entirely with solar power, shoots herself into the air, charges her weapon up and shoots a ball of energy down towards her enemies. After she shoots it, one large solar missiles shoot into the ground, causing a shockwave around the impacted area causing the enemy players to be affected and stained with fire damage which lowers your health tick by tick. It then makes you more vulnerable to damage and can make you eliminated faster than usual.

New Mechanical Features

Firstly, we are introduced to new features in this upcoming season.

In this season, we were introduced to a new systematics system to help better our progression in the game. To start off, we got a new way of learning our heroes through the Hero Mastery. Next, we got a new battle pass and a completely new way to gain character progression levels. It helps us as players level up our heroes and advance in their play style.

We were introduced to an all new co-op missions log where the players have the option to join three modes. Alongside the different modes, we are able to progress in the multiple events that are spread out for us. As soon as season 6 became available after August 10th, we were able to join the new Illari feature event which helped new players get introduced to Illari faster. And, we also got to enjoy the Overwatch 2 Anniversary event to celebrate the birthday of Overwatch 2. In this event, you are able to play limited time game modes and gain special cosmetics.

New Combat Game Modes

This season is introducing some new and awaited game modes ever since the first launch of Overwatch. Some of the game modes that are being introduced into this season is PVP Flashpoint, Hero Mastery, and new Overwatch 2 story mission modes and co-op modes.

Flashpoint PVP is a mode where you and your teammates fight against the enemy to try and achieve multiple points on the map. As one point is captured, another point will open up to a random location to be captured. The ultimate goal to this mode is to be the first team to capture all three objectives.

The Hero Mastery is an area to get to know each hero separately. Depending on what hero you are using, the map will change to adhere to that hero’s abilities. It is to help get the player know more about a certain hero. By getting the correct bots and enemies, it will help to strengthen their knowledge of each character.

In the Co-op section, we are introduced to new story missions for all players. And an array of modes that are limited time are included. The new limited event is called Underworld Event, with three modes called Liberation, Resistance, and IronClad.
