Mischief and Magic Game Mode

The star of the show this time around is, unsurprisingly, the Mischief and Magic mode. Like most other event-exclusive game modes, you can find Mischief and Magic in the Arcade section of the director. To those more in the know, Mischief and Magic is essentially Overwatch 2’s own Prop Hunt mode. In it, a team of 5 Genjis must hunt down a team of 5 Kirikos in the opening sections of the Blizzard World Map.

As Kiriko, you have about 30 seconds before the match begins to run around the map and locate an object you want to transform into. While transformed, you will gain the appearance of that object and must remain hidden for 2 minutes from the enemy team. Periodically, you will make noise to guide the Genji team towards you, but don’t fret: you have a smoke bomb as part of your tool kit which can stun any Genji player for several seconds, allowing you to make your getaway. You can also change your current disguise at almost anytime.

Meanwhile, on the Genji side, you will have 2 and a half minutes to hunt down all 5 hidden Kirikos around the map. You don’t have your trusty shuriken, only your sword, meaning that you’ll need to get into melee with any object you deem suspicious. You do have Genji’s Swift Strike to quickly close in on targets or avoid Kiriko’s smoke bombs but remember that it has a relatively longish cooldown. Survive for long enough and you’ll also gain access to the Dragonblade Ultimate.

If the team of Kirikos are all found before the timer is up, the round will go to the Genji team. If, instead, the Kirikos manage to escape capture and outlast the timer, they will win the round. Then, both teams will switch sides and characters, taking on the other role. This game mode is a best-of-three contest, meaning that whoever makes it to three points first wins.

This game mode is pretty chaotic and really entertaining, just like any Prop Hunt mode. The biggest difference between it and other more traditional Prop Hunt-style modes is how the “props” have better tools for making a getaway and how they will make noise every 30 seconds or so to give the hunters a hint. Although this is to make sure matches don’t last a ridiculously long time, it can be a bit of a dampener that you only got caught because of the noise.

Regardless, Mischief and Magic is free for all players until the end of Season 5. Hop in, complete some challenges and, most importantly, enjoy yourself with some light fun for the latter half of Overwatch 2 Season 5.

Free Spiritwarder Ana Skin

The most important part of the whole event, and what will drag most players into the festivities, is the free Epic Skin being offered exclusively through Mischief and Magic. That skin in question is the Epic Spiritwarder Skin for our Support sniper, Ana. Spiritwarder Ana is actually a recolour of a rare fan favourite Ana Skin from all the way back in the original Overwatch. Using the beloved Bastet Skin as a base, Spiritwarder has a nice mix of red and black whereas the iconic cat mask is a bold gold. Even if it is just a recolour, seeing this Skin back in the game will be more than enough to get people excited for Mischief and Magic.

To earn the Spiritwarder Epic Skin in Overwatch 2, players must complete the Paragon of Mischief event challenge before Mischief and Magic concludes on August 10th. To complete this challenge, you need to have beaten 6 other Mischief and Magic event challenges. If you’re more a fan of general play, you can complete a good amount of the challenges through Quickplay or Competitive. However, for the quickest route to the Spiritwarder Skin, we recommend diving headfirst into Mischief and Magic.

Once you’ve knocked out 6 of the 10 challenges available during Mischief and Magic, Paragon of Mischief will automatically complete and send the Spiritwarder Skin into your collection. Just make sure to complete everything before August 10th, when the Skin and all of the associated challenges will disappear.

And that was everything you needed to know about the new Mischief and Magic event in Overwatch 2 Season 5. Once again for those in the back, Mischief and Magic will conclude on August 10th, giving you roughly until the end of Season 5 to complete all the necessary challenges.
