Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have just received their first batch of DLC as part of the Hidden Treasures of Area Zero expansion. This first update is The Teal Mask and takes you to a foreign land known as Kitakami, a land of farmers, rice fields and ancient traditions. Of course, a new area means new Pokémon and there are a good handful of exciting new creatures to battle, observe and collect. One of the most exciting new additions is a third possible evolution for the beloved Apple Core, Applin. The evolved Pokémon in question is called Dipplin, the Candy Apple Pokémon.
As the name suggests, Dipplin is based on a candy apple and it’s a really interesting, super fun Pokémon that is exclusive to Kitakami. With a unique signature ability and a signature move which can change based on whether Dipplin is shiny or not, there’s a lot to love about this new addition to the Pokémon family. However, getting your hands on one isn’t as simple as wandering into an apple orchard and picking it off a tree. If you’ve ever had an Appletun or a Flapple, you likely have some idea of how you’re going to evolve Applin into Dipplin: even if you have absolutely no clue, have no fear as we’re here to guide you through everything you need to know.
Here’s how to easily evolve Applin to Dipplin, its newest evolution, in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Teal Mask.

Where to Find Applin
Before you can add Dipplin to your team, you’ll first need to pick up its pre-evolution, Applin. This Generation 8 Pokémon was first introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield and is available in several different regions and areas in Paldea. These include:
- South Province Area 2
- South Province Area 4
- East Province Area 1 + Artazon
- East Province Area 2
- Tagtree Thicket
- West Province Area 3
While it does spawn in a lot of areas, finding a wild Applin in Paldea can be tricky because of where it likes to hide. As a Pokémon based on an apple, Applin will usually be found dangling from trees that you need to ram with Koraidon or Miraidon. Unfortunately, this makes spotting a wild Applin kind of a chore, forcing you to slowly check every tree you see in Applin’s available habitats.
However, if you want a simpler path to getting an Applin, simply head to Kitakami. From here, make your way to Mossui Town and then head west. Right outside the Mossui Town gates is an area called the Apple Fields which is a wide stretch of orchards which are, as you may expect, growing small apple trees. While they aren’t the most Pokémon in the area, wild Applin can spawn at the base of these apple trees or in random spots around the orchard: there also always seems to be at least one wild Applin capable of Terastalizing around this area, which is denoted by a bright glow around the Pokémon.
No matter how you get your Applin, you just need to have one ready. This may also seem self-explanatory but do not evolve Applin into either Appletun or Flapple: Dipplin is considered a third potential evolution for Applin so going with either other evolution will lock you out of getting it. Once you have an Applin you’re ready to make into a candy apple, head back to Kitakami.
How to Evolve Applin into Dipplin in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
To get a Dipplin in The Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you’ll need to feed an Applin a special kind of apple. This follows the same evolution method required to obtain Applin’s original split evolutions: to get an Appletun, Applin must be fed a Sweet Apple, whereas you’ll need to feed Applin a Tart Apple to obtain Flapple.
The apple you’re looking for to get a Dipplin is called the Syrupy Apple and it is exclusive to the region of Kitakami. It’s described as a peculiar apple which is exceptionally syrupy and can make a certain species of Pokémon evolve.
So, where can you find a Syrupy Apple in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
Syrupy Apple Location in Pokémon SV
Beginning once again in Mossui Town in Kitakami, begin making your way southeast towards the bottom right corner of the Kitakami map. If you want a more rigid guide, follow the long river which begins in Mossui Town and follow it all the way until it reaches the bottom of the map. This trip should take you past Reveler’s Road and into a new area called the Mossfell Confluence.
Once you make it here, continue heading to that bottom right corner until you spy an old house and apple orchard off in the distance. The seemingly abandoned house is sitting next to a functional apple orchard, one where wild Pokémon like Applin still roam free. If you interact with the small makeshift vendor next to the house, you can purchase delicious Syrupy Apples for only 500 Pokedollars. This isn’t limited, either, meaning that you can keep coming back here to buy new Syrupy Apples in case you want to evolve another Applin into a Dipplin.
With the Syrupy Apple in your inventory, simply use it on your Applin and it will become a sweet, candied Dipplin.

Dipplin Overview
Dipplin is a Grass/Dragon type just like Appletun and Flapple, Applin’s other evolution. In terms of stats, it may surprise you to learn that Dipplin is actually the most defensively viable of the Applin trio, sitting at 110 Defence compared to Appletun and Flapple’s shared stat of 80. Dipplin also has a solid amount of Sp. Attack, too, with 95 in that stat. On the weaker side is definitely Dipplin’s Speed stat, being only 10 points higher than Appletun at 40 base Speed.
In terms of abilities, actually has a brand new signature ability which may make it an interesting pick in competitive battles. Supersweet Syrup makes it so that when a Pokémon with this ability enters the battlefield, the opponent’s evasiveness lowers by 1. Evasion influences how easy your Pokémon is to hit, with higher evasion stats making them much more likely to dodge attacks. Thanks to Supersweety Syrup, Dipplin can either curtail any wannabe speedsters or make low-accuracy moves more likely to hit.

Another signature of Dipplin’s is the move Syrup Bomb. This Grass-type Special move causes a Pokémon to spit an explosive glob of syrup at their target. While it has low base power at only 60, it will lower the target’s Speed by 1 per turn for 3 turns, effectively cutting a Pokémon’s Speed in half if they suffer the full duration of the attack. A fun little detail about this move is that it’s normally a red globule of syrup to match Dipplin’s red candy coating: if you get a shiny Dipplin, though, the move changes colour to yellow to match the golden candy coat. This is only the second time a move has ever changed based on whether the Pokémon using it is shiny.
Looking at Dipplin as a whole, it has a very unique place in team compositions. With its stats, Dipplin can not only tank a good deal of Physical hits but dish out a decent amount of Special damage as well. Paired with Supersweet Syrup’s evasion lowering and Syrup Bomb’s Speed decrease, Dipplin is a strong debuffer Pokémon who you want to switch in and soak up damage to take full effect of its more support-oriented playstyle.
Interestingly, Eviolite is an item which works on Dipplin. This item boosts the Defence and Sp. Defence stats of unevolved Pokémon. This may just be a glitch but it could also be hinting that, at some point in Part 2 of the Pokémon SV DLC (The Indigo Disk), Dipplin will receive an evolution.
That was how to evolve Applin into Dipplin using the new Syrupy Apple item in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC.
