Valhalla Symbols Guide – Which Door To Choose?

The game communicates with the player via ‘Valhalla Symbols.’ These act as keys for you to understand which doors lead where as well as what loot certain chests contain. Upon reaching a new safe, sanctuary realm where you can take a breather and upgrade, you are presented with the choice between two doors, each containing unique loot depending on their respective Valhalla Symbol.

  • Perk Glyph: Contains Glyphs with unique combat and gameplay capabilities.
  • Stats Glyph: Contains Glyphs that boost specific stats. (Luck, Cooldown, etc).
  • Weapon Glyph: Contains Glyphs that allow for new Weapon skills and upgrades.
  • Runic Attack Glyph: Contains light or heavy Runic Attacks for your weapons. (Increased chance to be a Runic Attack for your selected weapon path).
  • Mixed Glyph: Contains a random reward that could be any of the other Glyphs.
  • Refill: Grants a slight refill of Health or Rage. Typically found after the boss fights arenas.
  • Fleeting Echoes: The main currency of Valhalla which allows you to purchase upgrades at the Tablets of Endeavor.
  • Mastery Seal: Another currency of Valhalla that can be spent before each run and grant permanent upgrades.
  • Spirit Seal: Another currency that can be spent using the Tablet of Reflection to permanently influence Valhalla and help Kratos.
  • Divine Triumph: The most valuable resource in Valhalla that can be spent using the Shore Tablets and are retained on death.

These are all the Glyphs upgrades and symbols in God of War Ragnarok Valhalla.

Perk Glyph choice

There are no wrong answers in terms of which doors to choose. This is because every run is different and you should plan accordingly. For example, if you already netted a great Runic Attack from the first room, then you probably don’t need to enter through doors that are marked with the Runic Attack Glyph for a while. Instead, maybe enter doors that are marked with Weapon Glyphs to further boost your overall damage and effectiveness.

The images below showcase the temporary Glyph upgrades earned during a certain run. These were acquired very early on in the run and already grant powerful bonuses. The Riposte Realm Shift has a chance of triggering a Realm Shift when Parrying which is perfect for taking down bosses as you slow time and dodge easier or get in a few more attacks. Choosing stat Glyphs or using Shore Tablets to increase your Luck stat can synergize well with this effect. In addition, Spear Throw+ is a Weapon Glyph that elevates the Spear of Draupnir’s Spear Throw and Spear Drill skills. These are two frequently used attacks and having them buffed up is always plenty useful.

You can keep track of your upgrades via this menu and even destroy certain perks and Glyphs by holding Square to make room for new ones as well. Additionally, you can check out ‘Codex’ for information regarding lore, controls, or instructions. The ‘Goals’ tab has a bunch of mini-objectives such as opening certain doors, beating specific types of enemies, or collecting currencies and upgrades. Completing these objectives and challenges rewards you with currency that can be spent on further upgrades.

You can get new challenges by visiting the Labour Marker at the Shore.

Shore Tablets

Tablet of Reflection

Shore Tablets are insanely important as upgrades set using them will be retained on death. These permanent upgrades will truly elevate your gameplay experience. One of these is marked with an Omega Symbol and it is called the Tablet of Reflection. At the expense of Mastery Seals, you’ll be able to upgrade your stats (Vitality, Defense, Cooldown, Strength, etc.) and even increase your maximum Health and Rage!

One of the best upgrades you can get fairly early on is buying one resurrection stone. This not only gives you a second chance but can also be further upgraded with more resources, allowing you to obtain two. Additionally, another decent option would be Health Looter which restores some of Kratos’ health upon opening chests.

Tablet of Influence

This tablet influences Valhalla itself and bends it in a way that is beneficial to Kratos. There are truly unique upgrades to be made using this tablet such as starting each run with 100 Fleeting Echoes. This can be especially useful as you can net some neat upgrades to help speed up the early parts of your run.

However, we believe that the ‘offerings’ tab is much more valuable. This is because you can upgrade both your Light and Heavy Runic attacks to have a chance of being Level 2 upon discovery. Combine this with a Luck and Cooldown build and you’ll be unstoppable! All in all, Shore Tablets are where you should be focusing on spending your currency as they are permanent upgrades.

Rage and Shield Types

You can also change your preferred Rage and Shield types on the Shore via the Pedestals of Selection. Whilst selecting, you might notice a slight shimmer on one of the Shields or Rage types. Choosing this option will result in bonus resources such as an increased Mastery Seal drop rate. At the end of the day, whichever you choose is up to personal preference. Selected Rage Type

Selected Rage Type

God of War Ragnarok Valhalla introduces a new rage type called ‘Legacy’ that is extremely powerful. Fans of the franchise will recognize the sword used in this rage type as ‘The Blade of Olympus‘ created by Zeus. This Rage type allows you to perform strong sword attacks that can charged by holding down R1, R2, L2, and Triangle, slightly healing Kratos in the process. Furthermore, you can restore a bit of rage by parrying attacks and killing enemies. Exiting this type of Rage early is also more seamless than other Rage types. Definitely, our favorite Rage type to use in boss fights!

Hidden Secret Mystery Perk

You can obtain this secret perk in rooms marked with a Skull, red rifts, or a chest in the Greek gauntlet for 5k Fleeting Echoes. It is called ‘???’ with the description “Memories of the Collector are sealed within…”. To unlock its true ability, simply navigate to the menu and hold Square to destroy it. Now every time your equipped relic charges diminish, it will automatically equip a random new one for you. This allows you to never run out of relics and can be especially useful against tough enemies.

Tablet of Endeavor

These tablets are found in sanctuary realms and allow you to gain temporary boons and buffs that last until the end of your current run. Some of these include restoring a bit of health and unlocking upgrades. As seen below, the available Glyph grants the Blessing of Cooldown which can be especially useful for those wanting to use their Runic Attacks more frequently.

Alternatively, this is also where you can ‘Suspend Game’, saving your progress and allowing you to hop right back in at a later time. We advise that you focus on restoring your health and rage slightly prior to facing any bosses. If you’re confident in your abilities or already have decent health, then picking up a sweet Glyph or upgrade can prove useful!

Additional Tips and Tricks

  • Break vases as often as you can for bonus resources.
  • Explore every inch of each area for hidden chests and even Health and Rage stones.
  • Spend your currencies wisely, having good synergy with your play style. For example, if you are playing aggro, invest a lot of resources in Rage and Strength. However, if you are playing a Runic-focused build then Cooldown and Luck could be the way to go.
  • Before entering boss fights or challenging areas, you can idle for a bit until your Runic Attacks fully recharge.
  • At the beginning of each run, your weapon path determines which weapon upgrades you’ll be seeing a lot more of. As a result, begin each run focusing on upgrading one weapon as your main.

Nice, I usually stick with basically a single runic attack for the entire run and instead try and aim for those stat glyph chests
