PlayStation State of Play: Every Update and Reveal

Just on the horizon of the Tokyo Game Show, PlayStation hosted their newest State of Play bringing updates and reveals from Japanese developers and other studios. We got some new exclusives, updates on soon-to-be-released games, and more.

PlayStation State of Play Every Update and RevealWith the Tokyo Game Show 2022 just around the corner, PlayStation delivered its contribution in a new State of Play. In the 20-minute showcase, PlayStation focused on games from Japanese developers and other studios. We got new updates and reveals for Ten games coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2. 

Here are all the updates and reveals below alongside trailers for each game. 

Tekken 8

Kicking off the show with the reveal of Tekken 8, a new entry into Bandia Namco’s acclaimed fighting game series. We watched as veteran fighters, Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima duked it out in the rain on a gorgeous battlefield. This was all captured on a PlayStation 5, showing what a next-gen Tekken game could look like. 

At the end of the trailer, it tells us to stay tuned, possibly hinting more of the game being shown during the Tokyo Game Show this week. Here’s the full trailer below:

Star Wars: Tales From Galaxy’s Edge Enhanced Edition

Next up was a trip to a galaxy far far away with Star Wars: Tales From Galaxy’s Edge Enhanced Edition for the PlayStation VR2. Explore the galaxy and become a hero, this VR experience showed off battling the first order, meeting Star Wars veterans C3P0 and R2D2, exploring multiple planets and bartering with aliens like Hondo Ohnaka. Currently, this PlayStation VR2 game is still in development with an estimated release date for some time in 2023.

Demeo

Ever wanted to experience the thrill of raiding a dungeon when playing Dungeons & Dragons, well the folks at Resolution have your back. They revealed that Demeo their VR cooperative adventure game is in development for PlayStation VR2. Team up with friends and recreate all of the magic and camaraderie of gathering around a tabletop to thwart evil foes in the virtual dungeons.

Like a Dragon: Ishin

Next up was SEGA and they brought their A-Game with the reveal of Like a Dragon: Ishin, a remake of the samurai spin-off game Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin! RGG Studios creators of the fantastic Yakuza: Like a Dragon, finally bring their legendary lost chapter to both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 sometime in February 2023. The trailer showed a mix of the samurai tale alongside some gameplay fully remade within the Unreal Engine 4, a first for the Yakuza series.

Hogwarts legacy

We got a small update on Hogwarts Legacy‘s exclusive mission for all copies of the game on PlayStation. The mission is titled The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop, which will be an exclusive quest taking you inside a nightmarish dungeon infested with mannequins and other spooky threats. The exclusive mission also comes with the Shopkeeper’s cosmetic set and an in-game Hogsmeade shop

Hogwarts Legacy releases on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on February 10 2023. Here’s the trailer below:

Pacific Drive

Afterwards, we got the reveal of a peculiar apocalyptic game called Pacific Drive, developed by Ironwood Studio. This is the studio’s debut after forming in 2019 and it definitely made an impression on the mysterious side of game reveals. From the trailer, Pacific Drive seems to be a survival game set in an apocalyptic version of the Pacific Northwest, but the kicker is that most of the gameplay is done in the supposed safety of your trust vehicle. We saw plenty of obstacles from things coming out of the ground, some form of aliens or creatures from another dimension, and enemies that look like zombies. 

Currently, Pacific Drive is set for release sometime in 2023. Here is the trailer below:

Synduality

We get the return of Bandai Namco, this time to reveal Synduality, a new sci-fi third-person shooter involving mechs and rogue AI. The game has an art style similar to Nier: Automata but more colourful, a cool-looking mech to ride around the map in and take down enemies with numerous abilities. Players can customise their mechs and weapons throughout the game as they reclaim lost ground for humanity. Synduality is currently scheduled for release sometime in 2023. 

Synduality mainly showed off the single-player portion but it’s reported via the PlayStation blog that there will be a PvPvE mode where players are given missions to clear which can involve thwarting other players’ progress. Here is the trailer below:

Stella Blade 

An update to the PlayStation exclusive, Project EVE revealed a name change to Stella Blade alongside more hack and slash gameplay. We got to see some new shiny characters alongside the main heroine, as well as some monstrous enemies and bosses that players will be facing throughout the game. 

We got a good look at the futuristic city of Xion and saw new characters including a robotic elder. Stella Blade releases sometime in 2023 for PlayStation 5 exclusively. Here is the trailer below:

Rise of The Ronin

Team Ninja known for the Nioh series, revealed Rise of the Ronin, another PlayStation 5 exclusive coming in 2024. Rise of The Ronin is an open-world third-person samurai game set in the modernization period of Japan. In the trailer you see the unnamed ronin traversing the land, jumping off buildings and using gliders.

God of War Ragnarok

Finally, to end PlayStation’s State of Play, we had an update on God of War Ragnarok. In the trailer, we get a deeper look at the relationship between Kratos and Atreus, the numerous new enemies they’ll face, and how the Norse god Tyr may fit in the story. We also get some kick-ass new gameplay alongside a spectacle of different sights when exploring the realms. lastly, we got a reveal of a limited edition Dualsense controller themed after the game.
