After the enormous build-up and advertising campaign, not to mention the incredible success of the original game, there was very little doubt the new game would do well. And considering the hype and fan fervour drummed up by the mere announcement of Ragnarök’s release date earlier this year, it was clear to see fans wanted this game day one.
So it’s no surprise Ragnarök saw the franchise’s biggest launch in the UK alone, selling more copies in the first three days alone than any other game in the series. It took the UK charts by storm, rocketing to the top. And that only took the physical copies sold into account, meaning as a first-party exclusive, God of War Ragnarök truly is unbeaten, both in the UK and around the world.

Looking to the future, developer Santa Monica Studios certainly isn’t resting on its laurels, but currently has no clear vision of where to go next. In an interview with the LA Times, creative director Cory Barlog said that the studio was currently “spread out on a lot of different things”. But he refused to elaborate any further as to what those “things” were.
A sequel to God of War Ragnarök may be on the cards, but as Cory Barlog said he wished the game to be the end of the Norse saga, it probably won’t be for some time.
