Have you played God of War Ragnarök and thought it couldn’t get any better? Struggling to defeat Gna the Valkyrie Queen or Hrolf Kraki the Berserker King in your quest for the Platinum Trophy? Well fear not all you gaming warriors, help is at hand.
Perfect Your Gameplay
PlayStation recently released a series of videos highlighting the benefits and improvements that owning a DualSense Edge controller can have to elevate your gaming experience. One such video was a sit-down interview with the design director and lead combat designer from the God of War Development team at Santa Monica Studios.
In this excellent four-and-a-half-minute video, they detail how they incorporated the new features of the DualSense Edge controller to enhance their own personal gameplay.
Trigger dead zones, button mapping shortcuts, adjustable trigger stops, reprogramming of the backstop buttons; having the very people who made and designed their game, give tips and tricks on how to improve the experience with the DualSense Edge controller is like advice from the Gods themselves.
One of the only issues here is that the DualSense Edge controller is not exactly a cheap bit of kit. Spending upwards of £209.99 / $209.99 for a controller https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/accessories/dualsense-edge-wireless-controller/ that is more expensive than the base version of the £184.99 / $184.99 SCUF Reflex https://scufgaming.com/uk/playstation5-scuf-reflex will be a hard pill to swallow for many just to make the game that bit easier. However, if you can afford the DualSense Edge, it’s good to know that game designers are taking it into consideration, and trying to utilize the features for the expenditure fans are making.
How Badly Do You Want It?
As someone who has Platinumed God of War Ragnarök, there were times when the standard controller hindered my ability to be as quick as I would have liked in combat, especially with no dead zones for the L2 and R2 triggers. It is quite clear from this presentation how the DualSense Edge controller, with the focus of the development team on the very issues I had playing the game, has been addressed. It is also exciting to see how these features could be utilized for any further games down the line, but for now, would these extra features of enhancing games, convince you to splash out for PlayStations’ premium controller?
In a world striving for ease of accessibility for all, and with new technology to make use of it, everyone will applaud studios and companies that are putting the effort in to make us feel more intuitive with the games we play. We all want to feel more like Gods of War than Chumps of War no matter the difference in our ability.
Conclusion
What price would you put on being an even better version of Kratos? Do you think the expenditure to be more reactive is worth the ease of gameplay? Only through the power of our wallets will the final verdict of the cost-effectiveness of the DualSense Edge be decided. I am eager to hear your thoughts and opinions on this topic, so feel free to leave a comment in the section below.

Great article. I’ve been interested in the Edge controller ever since I first heard about it, mainly for the dead zones in the analogue sticks, but they’re a bit pricey. I suppose people pay double and upwards for racing wheels, VR etc and the controller is packed with technology, I know someone that bought one and said they can’t go back to the standard version now. 🤷🏻♂️
