All New Outfits

There are 6 brand-new outfits available in Wave 3 of the Xenoblade Chronicles Expansion Pass. In addition, these 6 outfits also each have a recolour which is available separately.

These are the Throwback Outfits, named so because of how they tie into characters from the previous Xenoblade Chronicles games. Each outfit is based on a different character from either Xenoblade Chronicles 1 or 2. The Kevesi trio is sporting looks from the Bionis, while the Agnian trio are all cosplaying as traditional Blades of Alrest.

  • Noah is dressed up as Shulk.
  • Mio is dressed up in Nia’s Blade outfit.
  • Eunie is dressed up as Melia (specifically her Future Connected outfit).
  • Taion looks like Jin’s final form.
  • Lanz is everyone’s favourite joker, Reyn.
  • Sena is embracing her lookalike as she is dressed up as Brighid

These outfits have all been slightly altered to fit with the style of the new cast of characters while remaining identifiable as their original counterparts. So now you know what they all look like, how do you get your hands on them?

How to Unlock the Throwback Outfits

To obtain the base Throwback Outfits for all 6 main characters in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, you will need to undertake the new Archsage’s Gauntlet Challenge Battle mode.

You will receive the quest More Challenge Battles! after receiving all of the Wave 3 Expansion Pass content. This unlocks the Archsage’s Gauntlet version of Challenge Battles, but only if you completed the previous quest, simply titled Challenge Battles!, which was obtained from Wave 2.

The Archage’s Gauntlet is a new rouge-like addition to the game where you will face wave after wave of enemies, with various modifiers and special conditions to keep things fresh. There are three difficulties to the Gauntlet – Easy, Normal and Hard – which share three separate stages. These stages escalate in difficulty and, if you want all 6 outfits, you’ll need to tackle all three stages.

Gauntlet: Beginner is the easiest of the new Challenge Battles. There are a total of 30 floors to conquer. If you reach Stage 10, you will unlock Sena’s Throwback A outfit. Go a bit further and reach Stage 20 and Lanz’s Throwback A outfit will also be yours.

Next is Gauntlet: Intermediate. This ups the ante a bit, with more stages and harder enemies. Like before, reach Stage 20 to get a B Rank, unlocking Taion’s Throwback A outfit. Then, keep going and reach Stage 30 to get Eunie’s Throwback A outfit as well.

Lastly, we have Gauntlet: Pro. This is the hardest chamber of the Archsage’s Gauntlet, with over 140 Stages to tackle (for those brave enough). Fortunately, you’ll only need to hit Stage 30 to unlock Mio’s Throwback A outfit and then go to Stage 50 for Noah’s Throwback A outfit.

If you just want the outfits and don’t care about the thrill of battle or achieving high scores, play all 3 stages on Easy Difficulty. You’ll still have to pay attention and make sure that you have a good team, but it will be far less soul-crushingly difficult than the Normal or Hard difficulties.

Recolours

As previously mentioned, there is also a recolour for each of these new outfits.

You can purchase these recolours from one of the Archsage’s Pages. Specifically, Blue, the Page closest to the Archsage on the right side of the Land of Challenges will sell you each of these outfits for 3000 Blue Noponstones. This means that, in total, you will need 18,000 Blue Noponstones to obtain the recolours for all 6 Throwback Outfits.

Blue Noponstones are obtained by simply completing rounds of the Archsage’s Gauntlet. The higher you go and the more points you score, the larger your haul of Noponstones will be. On average, most good runs will earn you between 1000-2000 Blue Noponstones. This still means that you’ll need to do a decent amount of grinding to get all the necessary currencies. The silver lining here, though, is that you don’t have to hit the strict Rank requirements as you did for the original Throwback outfits.

The recolours themselves may be based on previous Xenoblade Chronicles characters, much like how the skins themselves are based on specific key figures from the past two titles.

That was how to obtain all 12 of the new Throwback Outfits from Wave 3 of the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Expansion Pass.
