Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed Major Story Expansion Revealed

The fourth wave of the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Expansion Pass has finally been revealed, showcasing the large-scale story expansion Future Redeemed. Similar to the final piece of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 DLC, Torna – The Golden Country, this piece of DLC will include a brand new story with a new cast of characters.

The trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed gave us a brief look at what to expect in the DLC proper, including a look at the cast of playable characters, what kind of enemies and familiar faces we will encounter and more. The DLC takes place in the distant past of Aionios, serving as a story about the Founders and their role in establishing the City.

The main reveal was who we will be playing in Future Redeemed. The first is Matthew, seemingly the first Vandham, famed for his martial arts prowess and fighting ability. Joining Matthew is A, a mysterious young woman with a red Aegis Core Crystal, as well as Nikol and Glimmer, who both look strikingly similar to previous Xenoblade characters. Perhaps the most exciting thing, though, is the confirmation of previous Xenoblade Chronicles protagonists Shulk and Rex as playable characters, joining the fray as battle-hardened veterans of Aionios and the worlds that came before.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s battle system seems to remain very much intact here in the DLC. All of the characters are still classified by Attacker, Defender or Healer classes (Matthew is an Attacker, for example, whereas A is a Healer). Some things have changed, though, such as special combo attacks replacing Interlinking. We only saw one such combo between Nikol and Glimmer called Hellstream, but combos for Matthew and Shulk, as well as one for A and Rex, appeared throughout the trailer.

Future Redeemed will likely serve as the connective bridge between the first two Xenoblade Chronicles games and the world of Aionios. There were a lot of little questions left in the main story of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – who were the Founders, where were the characters from the previous games – and, hopefully, this DLC will give us the answers we want. With appearances from N, Z, and Klaus and plenty of other references and hints to the series’ past, there’s a lot to look forward to from just this trailer alone.

What’s more, the trailer also gave us a date for the DLC. Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed launches on April 25th for any players who own the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Expansion Pass.
