Players can explore a new area filled with additional weapons, challenging bosses, and hidden secrets in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. However, accessing this content can be somewhat complicated once you’re in the game. FromSoftware recommends that players level their characters to between 120 and 150 before attempting the DLC to ensure they are prepared. To unlock the DLC, players must first navigate to a specific area and then defeat two optional bosses.
With all that in mind, this comprehensive guide will walk you through everything you need to do to access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC as soon as possible, allowing you to take your first steps into the Land of Shadow and begin your new adventure.

How to Access Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
To access the Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC, you have to first face Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. After defeating these bosses, head to the throne at Mohgwyn’s Palace, where you will find a new character standing next to the cocoon. Speaking to her, she will tell you that she’s a Needle Knight Leda, a follower of Miquella. She will tell you to interact with the withered arm in the cocoon to begin the DLC.
When you touch the withered arm, it will transport you to the Land of Shadow, the new map for the Elden Ring DLC. Once unlocked, you can teleport to the Land of Shadow at will, but you must first reach and interact with the arm in the cocoon to access the new DLC map
Defeating Starscourge Radahn
Starscourge Radahn is the primary boss of Caelid, the Rot-infested region east of Limgrave. To face him, you must wait for the Radahn Festival to activate, then travel to Redmane Castle in southeast Caelid and use the portal on the beach.
You can start the Radahn Festival in one of three ways:
- Unlock any Site of Grace in the Altus Plateau.
- Advance Ranni’s quest until you mention Radahn to Blaidd in Siofra River.
- Progress in Ranni’s quest until you mention Witch-Hunter Jerren to Iji.
Caelid is a tough region, so it’s advisable to first complete Limgrave, Liurnia, and the Altus Plateau.
Defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood
The second boss you have to defeat is Mohg, Lord of Blood. He is located in Mohgwyn Palace, an underground area accessible through two methods:
- Use the teleporter in the west of the Consecrated Snowfield.
- Use the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, which is obtained at the end of White Mask Varré’s quest.
The second method gets you to Mohgwyn Palace faster. However, this area is a challenging endgame location, so using the Pureblood Knight’s Medal might leave you under-leveled and weak to face Mohg.
Touching the Withered Arm
After defeating Mohg in his throne room, interacts with the withered arm hanging from the bloody cocoon on his throne. This arm belongs to Miquella, the demigod and brother of Malenia, the Blade of Miquella.
Miquella plays a crucial role in how you can access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, as well as the story and lore serving as your guide into the Land of Shadow.
If you can’t interact with the withered arm, fast-travel to the nearby Site of Grace to reload the area. You should then find a character next to the cocoon. Speak to her; she is Needle Knight Leda, a key NPC in the DLC. She will tell you to interact with the withered arm to teleport to the Land of Shadow.
