After a long wait, the first expansion for Elden Ring titled Shadow of the Erdtree has been unveiled.
The expansion’s name and key art were revealed in a tweet from the Japanese FROMSOFTWARE account before being posted on the English account with a translation. This news comes after many fans were lamenting the one-year anniversary celebrations, where neither hide nor hair of a DLC announcement was present.

The key art for the expansion shows a small figure with blonde hair riding Torrent through a field of endless wheat. In the distance is a looming visage of the Erdtree stricken with Deathblight.
From what we know, the figure riding Torrent is Miquella, brother to Melania (the Blade of Miquella, should you have forgotten). He is famed for his eternal youth and the home he created for outcasts called the Haligtree. Despite cropping up in the lore (and in some datamined pieces of the game itself) Miquella was suspiciously absent from the main game, only appearing as a hand at the end of Mohg’s boss fight. Perhaps he will appear as either a friend or foe during the Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion.
Regarding the location, the never-ending wheat fields are peppered with ghostly apparitions of gravestones and swords. Then, of course, there’s this grotesque Erdtree that has been stricken with Deathblight, a disease which originates from the soulless body of Godwin the Golden. Could this expansion have something to do with us aiding Miquella in freeing the Erdtree from Godwin’s unwitting desolation?
The expansion was not given a release date, so keep a lookout for more information on Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree in the coming months.
