What can be more valuable then the Caps?
While traveling around the world of Commonwealth, you will find yourself in a need of Adhesive. It is one of the most used materials for crafting in Fallout 4. Be it melee weapon modification, upgrade of high-tech Plasma Rifle or modding of Pipe gun, you will need Adhesive. Same fate awaits you if you plan to craft upgrades for Power Armor, or your usual apparel. There are many ways to obtain the material. Read our following Fallour 4 tips. First one is to look out for certain Junk items. Second one is to trade with specific merchant(s), to get shipment of Adhesive. Third one, and most exciting one, is to craft the Vegetable Starch, in the Cooking Station. It will grant you 5 pieces of material and is considered to be infinite source of the material. First two methods will be handy if you plan to mod equipment a bit. Last method will be good if you know that you really need tons of material. Read more detail description of each method down below.
You gonna drag that Junk around?
Places to look for certain Junk items
On your quest to find missing son, you will be looking for Duct Tapes, Wonderglues, Economy Wonderglues and Military Duct Tapes. First three can be found in almost any location around the world. They will be situated in, or nearby, red Toolboxes. The Toolboxes can be found near modification stations, in storages or stands, and so on. They are almost everywhere. In any location you can run in that red box with Wonderglue or Duct Tape.
Sometimes, there will be another Adhesive material situated around the Toolbox area. In the screenshot below i got lucky and found Economy Wonderglue. It gives twice the amount of Adhesive, compared to Wonderglue.
Military Duct Tapes can be found around military objects, obviously. Across the world, they are represented by bunkers, forts and military vehicles scattered around the world. Usually, you can find the vehicles while traveling by the roads. Occasionally, you will find MDT in Police Stations.
All mentioned items can also be randomly found in boxes, safes and other containers that may, or may not, require lockpicking. Also, all mentioned materials can be randomly found in enemy corpses, as loot.
Remember. I don’t serve Synths!
Merchants that sell shipment(s) of the material
You can find merchants, in major cities, that are selling shipments of Adhesive. The shipment contains 25 pieces of named material. There are 3 merchants, in non-faction cities, which sell shipments. Myrna and Percy are situated in Diamond City.
Myrna is trading during day time, while Percy is trading at night time. They both stand at the same location, in Diamond City Market. The location is to the right from Arturo, ranged weaponry trader, and just behind the bar with Japanese speaking Protectron. Sadly, he only sells Noodle Cups.
Third merchant is Daisy, from Goodneighbour. She is situated just near the city entrance, to the right from K-L-E-O, an Assaultron that sells ranged weaponry(under signboard “Guns Guns Guns”). The signboard of Daisy is named “Daisy’s Discounts”.
You can buy some Junk items that contain Adhesive from any merchant. They will randomly appear in Junk section of a merchant, if he has one, and can be refreshed each 24 hours. Same can be done with specific merchants named before if you will need more than 25 pieces of the material. By refreshed, i mean that you need to wait for 24 hours after you buy the desired item, for it to be available again.
Also, you can to “Tag for Search” the desired material. It will be easier to notice it while trading, or searching the world for Adhesive. Just like you saw on previous screenshots, and can see on this one, the material that is tagged will have magnifying glass near its name. To tag material, you need to enter any station that can craft something with the use of desired material. Then you need to select any item that will require the material for its creation and press T(it is “Tag for Search” hotkey). Please notice that for this function to work you need to have not enough material for the creation of the items you selected.

Adhesive, adhesive everywhere!
How to craft infinite amount of Adhesive
While two previous methods were good for the situation when you are not doing a lot of modding and require small portion of material, this method will be useful for people that like to mod everything they have. This method will provide you with tons of Adhesive.
To craft one Vegetable Starch, which breaks into 5 pieces of Adhesive, you will need to access Cooking Station. And. You need to have 3 Tatos, Mutfruits and Crops. You will also need one Purified Water. Where do you get all these components? Read below!
Let’s start with the end. When roaming across the land of Commonwealth you will find some Purified Water and Dirty Water. You would like to store both of them in the Workshop and not use them for healing. Purified Water is your needed ingredient, obviously. And. You can convert 3 pieces of Dirty Water in 1 piece of Purified Water at the Cooking Station.
While the information described above will help you get some part of the water supply for Starch, main part of the supply will come in form of Water Purifiers. They are built in the workshop of your settlements, under the tab named Resources. You can build them in the Sanctuary Hills, near a river. The Purifiers will automatically store all the water they created in the workshop. And. They are also a part of 24 hour refreshment cycle.
One important thing about Water Purifiers is they require some power. So, you also want to build a power generator and connect it to the Purifier. Otherwise, the Purifier won’t work. Power Generators can be found in Power tab, under Generators tab. To connect generator to the purifier enter the workshop mode by holding V, point over the generator and press Space, point over the purifier and press Space again. That is it! Now, Water Purifier is working!
Okay. We are done with the water. Let’s move on to the plants. The plants can be harvested from the populated settlements, each 24 hours, and can be planted anywhere you can use the workshop. To do so activate the workshop menu by holding “V”, select the Resources tab, go into Food tab and cycle through the available plants, select the one you have and plant them in any location by pressing E. This way, you can plant any Plant found, or harvested, before.
Personally, i find it to be enough to occasionally visit few farms that have Tatos, Mutfruits and Crops. But. If you will require more than that, you can plant more in any owned settlement. Keep in mind that each plant needs to be harvested by the settler. And. Each settler can harvest maximum of 6 plants. Also, you need to assign settler to the group of plants. To do so activate your workshop, select desired settler by pointing your mouse on him and pressing “E”, then hover over the plant and press “E” again.
If you will find yourself in a need of the plants that will exceed the number of settlers, you can always increase the population of your settlement. To do so you need to build Recruitment Radio Beacon. It can be found in Power tab, under Miscellaneous. It will also require some power to start working.
In the end, I want to mention Farms I use as a source of the plants. You will uncover them by completing the quest line of the Minutemen. To do so just speak with Preston Garvey. He will tell you that few settlements need help if you decided to join the Minutemen. If not, you can always speak with him and join. After you help the first few he mentioned, he will tell you about new ones.
You can find Preston in Sanctury Hills, if you are not using him as a companion and haven’t sent him elsewhere. And of course, the first encounter with him will be in Concord.
Tenpines Bluff and Abernathy Farm will be source of Tatos.
Greentop Nursery and Country Crossing will be source of Mutfruits.
In Somerville Place and Finch Farm you will find Corns.
Lastly, visit Greygarden for a bit of everything and a chat with Supervisor White. You will be able to get all the plants you need for the Starch, plus you can receive a quest.
