The DLC was released a little over a week ago, and while some of the most hardcore players have already completed it, many others are still struggling in Shadow of the Erdtree. If you don’t have the patience to test different builds and weapons and are looking for something effective: welcome the Bolt of Gransax – a unique weapon in Elden Ring.
There are many articles on the internet regarding ‘What is the best spell?’, ‘What is the best sword?’, etc. These are all valid questions because at the end of the day, there are some weapons that are much stronger than others. This is the case with the Bolt of Gransax. Unfortunately, it is very easy to miss… Therefore, we’ve cooked up this guide to help you find this powerful weapon of mass destruction.
The Bolt of Gransax: One of the 7 Legendary Weapons
You may not know this, but in Elden Ring there are 7 legendary weapons that can be obtained either from certain bosses or from hidden locations on the map. The Bolt of Gransax is one of them.
First, it should be noted that it can only be obtained towards the end of the game, in the capital Leyndell.
Location of The Bolt of Gransax
Despite the weapon itself being difficult to find, The Bolt of Gransax’s location is the first thing you notice, as it is stuck right in the middle of the capital!
To enter the capital, you will need to obtain any 2 major runes from the 4 (Margit, Radahn, Rennala, and Rykard) and then use the Altus Plateau to reach it. Enter through the side entrance of the capital by defeating the Draconic Tree Sentinel in front of the gate.
He is a unique enemy, capable of summoning lightning or launching fireballs. Not to mention his strikes with that big ol’ hammer. Let me tell you right away, the fight is quite difficult, but there is a way to defeat him easily: patience. (Same way all Elden Ring bosses are defeated).
Luckily, the Sentinel is vulnerable to poison. You can use the Poison Mist incantation (requires 12 Faith). It can be obtained from a teardrop scarab in the eastern section of the Weeping Peninsula, in Limgrave.
By crouching, you can approach the Sentinel discreetly through the bushes and cast the mist without triggering the fight! Just spam the spell, and you’re done.
Continue until you reach the first boss of the capital: Godfrey, First Elden Lord. Once defeated, take the door on the left to exit and then take the elevator to descend into a previously inaccessible section of Leyndell, the one just above the tip of the giant spear. Jump over the balcony and climb the giant spear to reach the item to collect.

However, be cautious! If you have already burned the World Tree after defeating the Fire Giant, Leyndell will become the “Capital of Ashes” and the entire area will have changed. You will then not be able to retrieve the weapon, so keep that in mind!
The Bolt of Gransax: One of the best DEX Weapons
The Bolt of Gransax is an excellent weapon for full Dexterity or Strength builds as it requires 20 Strength and 40 Dexterity to use. But its major advantage lies in its unique skill. It allows you to launch a lightning bolt over a very long distance, dealing significant damage to its target. And all this without needing any levels in Faith!
However, the FP cost is quite high, at 25. But you can always reduce it with the Filigree Carian Emblem talisman.

This weapon is capable of dealing serious damage and even staggering certain opponents (including bosses), all while keeping a safe distance. It’s an excellent choice for late-game and even for the DLC. Try it out and see for yourself!
That being said, this was how to get the Bolt of Gransax in Elden Ring.
