Elden Ring: The Story of Starscourge Radahn

Starscourge Radahn is the pinnacle of prowess and might in FromSoftware's Game of the Year: Elden Ring. Here we will deep dive into Radahn's childhood, explore his life as a shardbearer, and explain his deep love and admiration for his horse, Leonard.

Elden Ring The Story of Starscourge RadahnStarscourge Radahn is noted as being one of the strongest and most feared Demigods in the Lands Between. He was also somewhat of a cultural icon, whose image would be depicted all over social media after Elden Rings’ launch. In this lore dive, we will explore what made Radahn such an influential character in the Lands Between. His epic battle with Malenia, his rise as a Shardbearer, and the endearment to his beloved and trusty steed, Leonard.

Radahn’s Origins

Radahn Entered this world as a demigod, the child of Radagon and the Carian Queen, Rennala. He was one of three siblings, his brother Rykard, the serpent God and his sister Ranni, the Witch, the thief of death. In this reddit post by user Machoman6661, we can see a beautiful illustration of the family.

From a young age, Radahn was fond of strength and might. He would adore the skill and show reverence to the First Elden Lord, Godfrey. Growing up, Radahn would hone his combat abilities in the hopes of one day being a prideful warrior. He would design his armour after Godfrey. Embossing it with the Golden Lion, mimicking the Beast Regent, Serrosh. His trusty steed, Leonard, was clad in similar armour. Together, they were ready for any battle that would come.

Gravitational Love

As a young man, Radahn realised he wasn’t like everyone else. He began to grow to an extraordinary size leaving destruction anywhere he stepped. He had one constant love his entire life, Leonard. If he wanted Leonard by his side in battle, he would have to make some outrageous decisions.

Radahn travelled to the town of Selia. Here, he would learn gravitational magic in his conquest of the stars. Earning his nickname: Starscourge. However, in his quest to control the stars and gravity, he learned how to make himself weightless, allowing Leonard to still carry him to victory.

Shardbearer Radahn

After gaining all that Radahn would need to conquer, he began a tirade across the Lands Between. Expressing his destructive abilities on the battlefield. Radahn was a warrior to be feared. It was on the battlefields of Caelid, at the foot of Redmane Castle; the home of Radahn and his followers, where he would meet his toughest challenge yet. His half-sister shardbearer, Malenia.

Radahn stands on the red sand dunes of Caeliud with his weapons drawn ready to battle with his half sister and shard bearer, Malenia.

The battle of Aeonia, as it would be named, erupted on the red sands of Caelid. Two of the finest warriors in the Lands Between, the final two shardbearers fighting for supremacy. Malenia was a beautiful warrior, her blade flowing like water, but Radahn would prove to be too much. He removed her unalloyed arm with a swipe of his greatsword, forcing Malenia to into a drastic decision.

Malenia forced her blade into Radahn and then herself, allowing the rot within her to seep out and bloom into an Aeonian eruption, spreading rot and disease across Caelid. Radahn, his wounds seeping with rot, would begin to stagger around the sands, his mind deteriorating.

Redmane Festival

Radahn, in the years following his defeat to Malenia, would scowl the red waste gorging on the decaying corpses of rot soldiers. His stalwart followers would hold a festival in the castle overlooking Radahn.

The celebration would entertain honoured guests and revere the General for all he had done in their cause. Ending in an epic battle where the guests would fight Radahn on the sands and see first-hand his epic combat ability. It would be at this festival, however, that Radahn would not finish victorious.

His Final Fight

At the peak of Redmane Castle, the tarnished descends the external elevator to the red wastes below. Entering through the waygate, the tarnished is immediately assaulted with a flurry of gr

avitational arrows, desperately seeking cover behind the piles of corpses left from pervious festivals. Radahn’s sheer size and prowess make this an uneven fight, but the tarnished is not the only festival goer who sees themselves as a champion today. We can find help from other notable and seasoned warriors in the Lands Between. Alexander, the Warrior Jar and Blaidd, to name a few. we can see the fight depicted here by artist, Suke.

The battle of the Redmane Festival

The tarnished and others gather in the shadow of Radahn’s impressive physique as his destructive blades sweep through the festival goers. Depleting his health, Radahn explodes into the sky leaving a deathly silence over the dunes. The sky illuminates around a meteoric Radahn plummeting to the earth in a desperate attempt to destroy the tarnished and others. Radahn knows his time is coming to an end.

As the tarnished lands the final strike, Radahn falls from Leonard slumping to the ground. The reign of starscourge Radahn ends when the rain of stars continues in the sky once again.

Master of the Stars

Radahn was every ounce and possible synonym of epic. His grandiose size, combat ability, shardbearer and demigod. Radahn was like Malenia in many ways and his praise in gaming culture was similar too. Radahn became the subject of many art pieces, stories and videos. He is as decorated as a cultural icon as he is a warrior in the Lands Between.
