Starfield | Best Planets To Quest On

Our guide to the best planets to quest on in Starfield will help you make the most of your interstellar adventure. With these four planets, you'll be able to get an edge on the galactic powers and make your place in the greater galaxy!

Starfield | Best Planets To Quest OnThroughout your time playing Starfield, you’ll have a hard time picking which systems to go to in order to get anything done. Luckily, with some insight, you can easily navigate to some of the hottest areas in the game! With hundreds of missions to take across multiple worlds, there can be an overload of things to learn about. It’s true, you’ll have a hard time doing them all, but here are the best ones to start with! Keep in mind that every planet is worth searching for, but some will obviously have more to them than others.

When picking these places to explore, keep in mind that these are areas with a high volume of quests or activities to take on. Ranging from the important to the menial, the main goal is to have things to do. This will range from quests and interesting places to vendors and factions that hold up in the region. Very importantly, there’s got to be some driving reason to stay in the area for an extended period of time. Building bases will be a different situation, as in my personal opinion the best place for these outposts is in a quieter world.

Finally, we picked these planets because they’re friendly to new players and people progressing through the story. There’s no need to worry about side quests or bonus activities if you’re going to power through the main story. In these cases, this guide should serve as a means to go back and build your levels back up if you hit a dead zone!

New Atlantis – Jemison – Alpha Centuri system

New Atlantis will undoubtedly be the first stop on your adventure in the wide galaxy. This city rests in the Alpha Centuri system on the planet Jemison. Luckily when you come here, you’ll have ample opportunities to gain work through Vanguard and the organization known as Constellation. As one of the first places to be settled after the expansion into outer space, New Atlantis has a lot to offer players. For starters, you can find an infinite amount of quests through mission boards and concerned citizens. Additionally, a fair amount of vendors and business owners have work that they need to do to make their businesses thrive.

Factional Quests

For starters, the main organization of the game known as Constellation will have plenty for you to do. These missions will come in the form of surveying and exploring places, which can take a lot of time and energy. The payoff for these activities is that you can gain a lot of insider knowledge of ecosystems and the history of different places. It’s important to note that working with the Constellation is meant to progress the main story quite a bit. If you want to gain a slew of companions and interesting additions to the game, then Constellation is for you!

Additionally, the U.C. comes in as a playable faction in the form of the Vanguard. This serves as a pilot force of volunteers which grants access to new ship designs and interesting missions. Doing Vanguard missions will see the player fighting off pirates and spacers, and defending U.C. systems. Additionally, you may be sent out to clear outposts and secure peace on civilized planets. This is a chain of quests that pays pretty well if you like the space cop aesthetic. The Vanguard quests will open up more activities about the U.C. after completing the opening questline.

Side Quest Chains

There are two major side quest chains that can be done in New Atlantis in order to gain a fair amount of experience. For starters, you’ll have access to the SysDef police missions that see you as a low-level rookie. These quests will see you do considerably menial police work that sees you grow into a more seasoned cop. Each mission is easy enough, and pays well, along with granting you a fair amount of experience. Additionally, it grants the player access to important information and credentials that can help them along with other quest lines associated with the planet. All things considered, joining SysDef is a great way to build up experience early on in the game.

The second major side quest chain that’s available is the well-paying debt-collecting gig Galbank offers. These missions are great for gaining credits for a little bit of traveling. While these missions can see the player forced into killing the target, a high persuasion ability can negate this. All but one of the targets can be spared, giving the player a higher payout. These quests give you anywhere from two thousand to three thousand credits. Debt-collecting missions are effective early on as they can give the player a fair amount of credit to build up their arsenal.

Akila – Akila – Cheyenne system

Akila is a great place to start if you want to get yourself involved with the Freestar collective. Here you can easily join the F.C. Rangers through the bank robbery quest line that allows you to do bounty. These quests are followed by the intense amount of smuggling and bounty-hunting missions available from the Tracker Group and other enterprises. There’s really no shortage of places you can make credit in this vast landscape. Because of this, you as a player can easily get lost in this beautiful world which has a lot to uncover.

Factional Quests

There are two major factions on this planet; the Freestar Collective and the bounty-hunting guild. Neither will have a lot of work contracts, but you’ll have to do corporate quests. The Freestar Collective offers players the chance to become an interstellar cowboy, however, they can be limited in their equipment. You can gain access to unique modifications and ship upgrades that make the group more than palatable for certain player builds though.

The bounty hunting groups that hang around Akila seek out both fauna and man alike for the highest bidder. They are a common sight across the galaxy, especially in places like Akila and Neon City. It’s interesting to note that they exist as a counterbalance to the low-level military forces the Freestar Collective employs. To this end, they use rangers as a deputized force to patrol the galaxy, and these bounty-hunting groups as a means to serve justice. Both quest lines see you defending peace through boisterous arms.

Side Quest Chains (spoilers)

Akila has two major quest chains associated with them which makes sense due to their surroundings. The first part will be the simple LIST missions, which will see you helping settlers in nearby systems. It’s notable that these quests can give the player a lot of insight into base building, and pay relatively well. Many of these quests require you to sacrifice a lot of resources or do a lot of escort missions. It’s a great way to boost your standing with Freestar Collective since they’re good deeds.

Kryx, home of the Crimson Fleet

Home of the Crimson Fleet, do not come here unless you have done the quest chain to be invited or they will be instantly hostile!

If you prefer doing things a little more daringly, Akila also has its fair share of smuggling operations. For the most part, you can move mech parts and harvested organs from the planet via a few secret quest chains. You can find these parts scattered around the planet as a remnant of the old wars between the FC and the U.C. If you have a shielded cargo bay, you can make a tidy profit off them.

The Lock – Suvorov – Kryx System

When piracy and illegal parts are on the brain, joining up with the Crimson Fleet is your best bet. For the most part, this is easily done by stealing anything and activating the Secret Agent questline. By doing so, you’ll be able to visit the lock, which serves as the main base of the Crimson Fleet. Here, you can buy a number of illegal ship parts and goods that cannot be acquired anywhere else in the galaxy. Beyond this, you have access to a fair amount of unique quests to help you along the way!

Factional Quests

There is only one major faction that seats itself at the Lock, and that’s the Crimson Fleet. These pirates offer unique missions beyond their own quest chain which can easily see the player make a profit. Beyond these their primary quest line allows the player to build up some interesting ship modifications and weaponry. Additionally, there is no faster way to get rich in Starfield than by playing a morally gray run in the Crimson Fleet. You have a strong chance of getting some of the best ships, weapons, and aid items available but only if you get on their good side.

Piracy quests are another option for building a reputation with the Crimson Fleet. This will see you doing three types of things; smuggling, stealing, and outright murdering your targets. There is no simple way of putting it besides you will be the bad guy out to ruin someone else’s day. Having said that, you’ll get a bunch of credits and experience at the end of the day. Make sure you have enough illegal upgrades on your ship to make the most of these missions.

Side Quest Chains

For the most part, the side quests you’ll do include being able to assist vendors and doing odd jobs for the Crimson Fleet. You don’t really do anything there that doesn’t affect your standing, but everything you accomplish also comes with credits. There’s a lot that can be accessed through these side quests including companions and recipes that can’t be found elsewhere. Most importantly, these side quests grant the player more access to black market items which come at a discount, something easily considered good for any playthrough.

Beyond this, The Lock is a great place to offload contraband and other things you don’t want on your person. At the Lock, you can sell anything you get that’s stolen or unsellable. However, they have fewer credits than other merchants, so these sales can be tight. It’s good to always sell what you can’t otherwise sell first, and then your regular equipment. Beyond this, The Lock is a great place to grow your wealth and experience while exploring Starfield!

Neon City – Voliii Alpha – Voliii System

If you’re looking to hone your criminal craft, Neon City is the place for you, as this bustling city is full of corruption and dirty money. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn how to process drugs and unique items as well as swindle others. All the while, you maintain a careful balance with the city’s leader who has a hand in every facet of the city. That being said, you can easily make your profit here as from a shipping container to a penthouse, there’s nothing but wealth to go around.

Faction Quest Lines

While there aren’t many factions floating around Neon City, Rangers, Crimson Fleet, and Stryker Gang all qualify as factional groups on the planet. Each has to deal with the leader of the planet who demands a cut of any operations that go on. That being said, you have several options when dealing with these groups as for every innocent action you take, in Neon City, corruption pays. The planet will really test your morals and your merits as a hero as the credits often rain down on those who give in to its rules.

Each group will have murder, information gathering, and sabotage missions under their belt. Some may offer you backdoor access to certain underground markets, while others lead you right into the crossfire of incoming gunmen. No matter where you go, you’ll have to fend for yourself with the crew you have available. So make sure you talk to everyone you can when you need to make a few credits.

Side Quest Chains

Neon City is full of sidequests due to the many vendors and subgroups within the area. You can easily earn hundreds of thousands of credits by simply running errands and menial task runs for merchants. On top of this, the planet has plenty of mission boards and other assets that can prove especially interesting for new players. You can find almost anything in Neon City so long as you are willing to talk to everyone around you.

That being said, one of the more interesting side quest chains sees the player joining the Stryker gang. This can be a great source of credit and ammunition, along with a great story behind it. The pistol you receive from this quest line allows the player to deal some of the most damage over time in the game. All together, Neon City has a little bit of everything for everyone, so long as you can carve it out for yourself.
