Next up is the 2D platformer, Enchanted Portals developed by Xixo Games Studio. Coated in charming old-timey art, Enchanted Portals pits you and possibly a friend up against numerous enemies whilst trying to return home. Enchanted Portals is heavily inspired by Cuphead in both game design and aesthetics, it contains a collection of challenging platform stages alongside thrilling boss battles.
Harness a powerful arsenal of different spells like fire, ice and wind ready to use from the beginning. You also get a handy double jump for extra air control, a magic bubble that blocks attacks, and you can use a broom to fly and swim underwater. Starfield
This pick is most likely one of a lot of people’s most anticipated games of 2023, It’s also ours too. Starfield is the first newly created universe in 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios and is setting us on a journey across the stars. Create your character and blast off into space with unparalleled freedom on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery. Become the captain of your very own spaceship and customise it to your liking. Modify critical systems including weapons and shields, and assign crew members to provide unique bonuses. Engage in high-stakes dogfights, encounter random missions, dock at star stations, and even board and commandeer enemy ships to add to your collection. Starfield contains a refined combat system giving players the tools to deal with any situation. Mythforce
Time for a trip back to the 80s with a game that captures the essence of Saturday morning cartoons. Beamdog’s roguelike adventure title, Mythforce, puts players in action-packed combat scenarios filled with sorcery and swordsmanship. Mythforce is a four-player co-op roguelike dungeon-crawling adventure rendered in 3D. The game is inspired by Saturday morning cartoons with its art style looking similar to games like Borderlands. Step into the shoes of the four heroes, the valiant knight Victoria, the wise mage Maggie, the vicious hunter Hawkins, and the charming rogue Rico. Dive into the labyrinthine depths of the dungeon alone or team up with three other players. However, you must carefully select your characters, as each bears a distinct skill that they bring to the table. These courageous champions are all that stand between Eldryth and the tyranny of the vampire lord, Deadalus. Will our heroes prevail against the many malevolent minions, tricks, and traps in his ever-changing dungeon?
Navigate through a vibrant castle full of terror and treasures. Use sorcery and swords to work your way through various obstacles and hordes of enemies. Mythforce promises to provide legendary weapons and powerful magic to take down the evil forces lurking in the cartoon castle. With Mythforce being a rogue-lite, you’ll spawn at the start of the level after dying. However, Mythforce uses a meta-progression system that allows you to upgrade between runs. Alongside this, the castle setting provides players with a fresh adventure with every attempt made.
Ad Infinitum
Time for our monthly spooky pick with Ad Infinitum, developed by Hekate. In this tale of horror, delve into the human psyche of an ex-German soldier’s horrifying memories. Similar to horror greats like Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and Layers of Fear, Ad Infinitum focuses on the veteran’s core memories that plague his psychological health after the events of The Great War. Witness a new tale of horror in Ad Infinitum releasing September 14th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

What We Know About Ad Infinitum
Ad Infinitum is a survival horror game at its core. Filled with exploration, puzzle-solving segments, and nail-biting encounters with terrifying creatures. Search through the manor to unearth clues shedding light on your family’s questionable past. Then survive your troubling memories of the war, as well as the various horrors within them. Unspeakable nightmares come to life in the recesses of your mind. To escape the death traps and terrifying creatures, you must understand the source and motivation of each monster and solve the puzzles that stand in your way. From blind demons who can hear your softest footsteps to hideous disjointed puppets who move in the dark, horror is around every corner.
Go back and forth between two timelines, one set in an old manor and the other in the trenches of World War One. You wake up in your bedroom in the middle of the night and begin to explore the old manor. Whilst exploring you solve riddles and puzzles and encounter certain trinkets that transport you to traumatic memories. This transports you to the character’s deepest fears whilst unravelling the events leading up to their psychological downfall. Players will need to relive the highlights and face the trials and tribulations from a much darker perspective.
Lies of P
Next, we have probably one of the strangest concepts for a souls-borne title, Lies of P, developed by Neowiz. This game combines the story of Pinocchio with a twisted steampunk-like world similar to games like Bloodborne and Steelrising. If you are a fan of souls-like games then Lies of P looks to be a smash hit for any fan. Lies of P releases on September 19th for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
What We Know About Lies of P
Awaken in the city of Krat, a once lively place that has been poisoned by madness and bloodlust. Pinocchio sets off to find his father Geppeto while encountering unspeakable horrors on the streets. Still yearning to become human, Pinocchio must learn the hard way that no one can be trusted. Lies are the secret to him obtaining his humanity, and must use his doll-like body to survive the terrors of a cruel but elegant world. The story of Lies of P can be different for each player with the interconnected procedural quests. Heavily tying to the source material that changes depending on how Pinnochio lies while interacting with different characters. This can ultimately affect how the game’s story will end.
Similar to From Software games, you’ll need to weave attacks together with well-timed dodges, as each enemy has unique combat animations and can swiftly smash through Pinocchio’s health bar. What sets Lies of P apart is a weapon-making system in which you can craft the perfect tool for the job and a customizable body that takes advantage of Pinocchio’s mechanized frame. Experiment with plenty of different enhancements, alongside features that come with useful and unique perks for exploring Krat.
Mortal Kombat 1
Our next pick is for the fighter within us all, Mortal Kombat 1 developed by Netherrealm Studios. The world of Mortal Kombat has been reborn after the events of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. Play a full roster of returning characters from both the classic games, the 3D era and recent titles. Pick your fighters and get ready for kombat when Mortal Kombat 1 releases on September 19th for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
What We Know About Mortal Kombat 1
Discover a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe created by the Fire God Liu Kang. Mortal Kombat 1 ushers in a new era of the iconic franchise with a new fighting system, game modes, and fatalities. This new timeline creates a “sort of reboot” to Mortal Kombat thanks to Liu Kang becoming a god in the last game. In the new world, past characters alive and dead return and are reimagined in the new era. Mortal Kombat 1 includes fan-favourite characters such as Scorpion, Sub Zero, Raiden, Mileena, Shang Tsung, and Johnny Cage. There are also characters making a return from over ten years ago like Havik, Ashrah and Li Mei.
Expect to see numerous barbaric fatalities and all-around absolute chaos on the small-scale stages. The biggest new feature of Mortal Kombat 1 is the Kameo fighter mechanic. This allows players to pick another character to take with them in the fight but are only summonable similar to the special conditions in previous Netherrealm games. They have their own roster that includes different versions of fighters on the main roster and characters from past games. They have their own move sets, they get their own fatality (mostly classics from previous games) and appear in fatal blows.
Mortal Kombat 1 includes a story mode depicting the new era and a new crisis within it. It will feature the standard offline/online multiplayer modes which have cross-play enabled over all major platforms. There’s also the new mode Invasion, which is designed like a board game where players can unlock items and take on opponents in unique battles.
Party Animals
Get ready for another potential game to entertain your guests at parties. Party Animals, developed by Recreate Games, is a beat ’em-up brawler in the same vein as Gang Beasts. Play as different animals and wage battle with your friends in fun chaotic arenas. Party Animals releases September 20th for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will launch for Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pas Ultimate subscribers on day one.

Unleash the Party Animal in you as you fight your friends as puppies, kittens, and other fuzzy creatures. Paw it out with your friends both online and offline and Interact with the world under the game’s realistic physics engine. Party Animals offers a wide variety of online and offline party games. This includes Last Stand, a free-for-all skirmish in which players battle it out for the final spot on the podium. Snatch Squad, serves as a capture-the-flag game mode where two teams must work to seize control and retain the enemy flag until the game’s clock has whittled down. Arcade is a huge sandbox mode in which players can make their own entertainment out of the plethora of settings, weapons, and collectables.
There are also classic game modes that have appeared in other games like Tug of War, King of the Hill, Battle Royale, and a multitude of other schoolyard activities. Each mode will bring a slew of realistic weapons for you to utilize and trade, and each objective will be as ludicrous as the last. Similar to Rubber Bandits‘ elastic touch, but instead it’s with farmyard animals assuming control of the roster.
Witchfire
Our next pick is a game for fans of Doom, Wolfenstein and games similar to this specific section of the action genre. Witchfire, developed by The Astronauts is an upcoming first-person shooter by the creators of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. Set in a medieval-themed world mixed with post-apocalyptic elements, take on supernatural enemies in this dark fantasy FPS. Witchfire releases in Early Access on September 20th for PC via the Epic Games Store.

Witchfire centres around the age when men hunted down witches and other supernatural beings. Desperate for a chance to triumph in the deadly war against witches, the Church calls on forbidden pagan magic to turn willing sinners into immortal witch hunters called preyers. Armed with powerful spells and fearsome firearms conjured by the best Vatican sorcerers, your mission is to find the infamous witch of the Black Sea, destroy the phantom army that protects her, and retrieve a mysterious artefact that can finally turn the tide of war. Like The Astronauts’ previous title The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Witchfire uses photogrammetry technology to achieve stunning visuals and a grim, immersive dark fantasy world.
According to the blurb, Witchfire‘s combat will play into giving players a high-octane bullet-riddled style of FPS and will feature combat reminiscent of Bulletstorm and Painkiller. Alongside the gunplay, Witchfire will also include pagan magic reminiscent of the same style as the elemental magic used in Bioshock. The game offers a challenging but satisfying gameplay experience with multiple roads to achieve victory. It hasn’t been confirmed whether or not the game will be open-world, however, it will have roguelite elements giving players more than enough to chew on, regardless of map or level size.
Payday 3
Finally, our last pick is the sequel to the hit cooperative heist game which is Payday 3, developed by Starbreeze Studios. Return to the world of heisting once more as you un-retire the Payday Gang for more heists. Rejoin the criminal world when Payday 3 releases on September 21st for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
What We Know About Payday 3
Step out of retirement back into the life of crime in the shoes of the Payday Gang, the envy of their peers and a nightmare for the police. Payday 3 takes place several years after the crew’s reign of terror over Washington DC had ended. They assemble once again to deal with a new threat born out of the chaos the crew left in their wake. In order to identify and crush this new threat, the Crew leaves Washington DC behind and heads to New York City. A new location brings new challenges, but also new opportunities for a heister with a plan. Payday 3 returns to its first-person shooter roots, and contains high-octane combat and in-your-face profanity to flesh out a fully functioning multiplayer experience for teams of four to immerse in.
Players can expect to see everything that helped forge the first two games with pre-heist planning, custom load-outs, and team-based tactical role-play that can either make or break a score. Expect plenty of diamond heists, bank robberies, and adrenaline-fueled cat-and-mouse chases. You’ll have to work hard and plan smart to get away with as much loot as possible. Gain experience, unlock new skills and gain proficiency in weapons to steadily grow your power to handle the tougher challenges. In heists, the choice is put in the hands of the players on how to tackle them. Whether you sneak or go in guns blazing, let your hostages go or keep them around as pawns. The choices are endless and in your hands, they will vastly change how the game plays.
