10 Fuse Combinations You May Not Know About in Tears of the Kingdom

There's a seemingly endless amount of fuse combinations in Tears of the Kingdom. With so many some are bound the be missed so here are ten useful combinations you may not know about. Some are great for traveling while others are good for a fight.

10 Fuse Combinations You May Not Know About in Tears of the Kingdom

One of the most fun additions to the latest entry in The Legend of Zelda series is the fuse ability. It allows for a diversification of weapons so that Link isn’t running around with the same weapons he was in Breath of the Wild. It adds endless possibilities for weapons, shields, and even arrows. With so many potential fuse combinations, it’d be no surprise that some useful ones may have slipped under the radar during your Tears of the Kingdom playthrough. So without further ado, here are 10 fuse combinations you may not know about.

1. The Dazzlefruit Forest Dweller’s Spear

This weapon may seem fairly useless at first boasting a measly 7 damage. However, this fuse combination is quite the opposite. If you haven’t looked closely at the forest dweller’s spear you may not have noticed its special ability. Things that would normally break after one hit, won’t when attached to this spear.

This means that you can use one dazzlefruit repeatedly without it breaking. It will need a short recharge but you don’t usually need to use dazzlefruits multiple times in quick succession. Dazzlefruits are great for crowd control but even better for any stal enemies. With exception of the stalnox, using a dazzlefruit one-shots all nearby stal enemies.

2. The Puffshroom Forest Dweller’s Spear

This weapon is a great fuse combination in Tears of the Kingdom for many of the same reasons as the dazzlefruit version. The main difference is that the puffshroom makes it perfect for getting easy sneak strikes on large groups of enemies at any time. A reusable smoke bomb is always useful to have on you.

3. Light Dragon Weapons

With Tears of the Kingdom’s changes came an additional dragon flying over Hyrule, the light dragon. Now the other three dragons’ scales, horns, claws, and spikes each apply one of the three major elements on hit, but what about the light dragon? On any weapon, the light dragon’s pieces restore hearts on hit. This makes having one fused onto any of your weapons a great alternative to wasting food when you’re only missing a few hearts.

4. Two-handed Sword Shields

If you enjoy being able to block but also enjoy your two handed weapons, this fuse combination is perfect for you. Attaching a shield to your two handed weapon gives you the best of both worlds. While it won’t add as much damage as some other items, the shield will maintain its ability to block and even to parry enemies.

5. Elemental Eightfold Longblade

The elemental eightfold longblade is perhaps my favorite fuse combination in Tears of the Kingdom. The eightfold longblade has the ability to cut the wind. This means it shoots out a projectile with each swing which makes it a melee and ranged weapon in one.

The reason it’s important to use an elemental item with it is because that wind blade will also take on the elemental damage. This means that with the weapon alone you can light enemies on fire, shock them, or freeze them from a distance. If you charge up the attack it also makes this wind projectile larger meaning you can hit multiple enemies with one. Personally for aesthetic and higher damage I prefer to use dragon horns for this combo.

6. Frost Gleeok Flurry Rush Weapons

This is the most devastating fuse combination in Tears of the Kingdom. Every enemy able to be frozen will be completely shattered by this. While most elemental items have a cooldown when attached to a weapon, the gleeok horns ignore cooldowns entirely. That means when using a frost gleeok horn, you can repeatedly freeze an enemy. Freezing enemies does bonus damage every time they’re broken out of the ice so repeated freezes add up quick.

Combine this multi-freeze ability with a weapon that can flurry rush like the royal knight’s sword or halberd means that when you flurry rush every other hit gets the shatter bonus. The only reason I don’t include the royal knight’s claymore here is because it doesn’t hit as many times during a flurry rush so the damage doesn’t add up quite as much. If you still struggle with slaying gleeoks, here is a guide to help you dominate them.

7. The Hoverstone Arrow

Moving away from weapons, this fuse combination makes exploring the sky islands much easier. If you attach a hoverstone to an arrow, it will be automatically activated once the arrow stops traveling. This means that if you need a break to catch some stamina but you’ve got nowhere to land, you can shoot a hoverstone arrow beneath you and land on it safely.

8. Elemental Item Shields

Elemental item shield fuse combinations serve two purposes in Tears of the Kingdom. One is giving you the ability to use an elemental attack by parrying while using a strong but non-elemental fused item on your weapon. The other purpose which is the one you might not know is that it also helps cool you down or heat you up.

If you have a warm item like a fire-like stone on your shield, you won’t require as much cold resistance in freezing areas of the map. The same works in reverse. An ice-like stone or other cold item on your shield will mean you need less heat resistance in warm areas. This however will not help in flaming areas such as the depths beneath death mountain.

9. The Spring Shield

This zonai device fuse combo was likely overshadowed by things like bomb shields, rocket shields, and canon shields but the spring shield is versatile. Like a bomb shield, if you shield surf on it, it will use the item up and propel you into the air.

However it has a second use, where on any shield, even the weakest you can find, it can disarm any enemy. If you parry an enemy with your spring shield it will knock their weapon out of their hands leaving them defenseless.

10. The Icy-Meat Shield

Last and certainly not least is the icy-meat shield. This unexpected fuse combination is the definitive way to shield surf in Tears of the Kingdom. It has no friction while shield surfing, doesn’t melt, and looks absolutely hilarious. While it isn’t technically any better then a minecart or zonai cart shield, it’s definitely more fun.
