Without prior notice, Nintendo has officially announced the release date of the anticipated live-action movie of The Legend of Zelda. The adaptation will arrive worldwide on March 26, 2027, marking a milestone in the history of the franchise and video game cinema.
The news was announced through Nintendo Today, the new news application from Nintendo, which was announced and officially launched during the Nintendo Direct on March 27. This platform seeks to provide players with direct access to the latest company updates, but nobody expected that, just one day after its launch, an announcement of this magnitude would be published.
The live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda has been one of the most anticipated projects by fans for years. Following the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, Nintendo confirmed that it was working on a film version of its most iconic adventure and fantasy franchise.
What We Know About the Legend of Zelda Movie
Wes Ball, director of the Maze Runner trilogy, will be in charge of the movie. Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of The Legend of Zelda, and Avi Arad, producer of video game adaptations and superhero movies, lead the production.
There are no details yet on the cast, the story, or the aesthetics, but fans hope that Nintendo and Sony Pictures capture the essence of Hyrule and do justice to the saga.
It’s exciting to finally have a confirmed release date. Although it’s still two years away, this announcement brings us closer to the possibility of seeing Link, Zelda, and Ganon on the big screen.
