Midna’s Helmet is a standalone piece of equipment that can be found within The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. TotK is actually this helmet’s third appearance in the Zelda timeline. It originally belonged to Midna in the 2006 title Twilight Princess. She acted as Link’s main ally throughout the story of that game. The helmet itself aided her and the previous hero in their fight against Ganon. Many longtime fans may seek to claim this helmet due to the significance it once had in that entry.
Midna’s Helmet didn’t return to the franchise until Breath of the Wild’s DLC expansion. Thankfully, every single piece of BotW DLC equipment has returned in TotK. Midna’s Helmet isn’t just for show. It also offers the Gloom Resistance ability. This means wearing it will allow you to walk in Gloom for a brief amount of time before it starts to drain your health. Only a few other pieces of equipment offer this ability, such as the Depths Armor set.
Here is everything you’ll need to unlock Midna’s Helmet in the latest Zelda game:

Reaching Eventide Island
Eventide Island was a returning location from Breath of the Wild. It is the largest island in the game, and sits in the far south-east corner of the map. You must reach this island if you want to get Midna’s Helmet. The easiest way to get here is by sailing from either Hateno Village or Lurelin Village. Lurelin is closer, but Tenoko Island between Hateno and Eventide offers multiple Zonai parts that make the trip just as easy. All these areas can be found near or within the Necluda Sea.
Despite this piece of equipment originating in Twilight Princess, you will need to traverse an area that is more akin to Wind Waker’s missive ocean, Lurelin Village is even based on the starting town from that game. The journey to get Midna’s Helmet will certainly please fans of multiple past games in the franchise.
How to Reach Lurelin Village
Lurelin is the harder of the two towns to reach due to how secluded it is, but you will have much less water to cross if you travel to Eventide Island from here. The only road that leads to this town begins in Hyrule Field. Head across the Bridge of Hylia in Lake Hylia, go through the Faron Woods, and then follow the northernmost road past Atun Valley. Lakeside Stable is the only rest spot along the main path. If you need healing prior to Faron Woods, then take the opposite path south. It’ll lead you to Highland Stable.
You should activate the Sifumiim Shrine just before Lurelin Village, that way you can fast travel back here later. Lurelin is infested with Bokoblin, Lizalfos, and other pirate monsters. Defeating these invaders isn’t necessary for unlocking Midna’s gear, so you can avoid them for the time being. They are, however, related to a few other side quests. Defeating them will allow a few new NPCs to walk around the area too.
Sailing from Lurelin to Eventide
Head further east of Lurline to come across an ancient geoglyph in the sand. The waters near this geoglyph contain some boat parts. Check near the Palmore Beach specifically. You may want to take the boat to Soka Point since that is the closest mainland local to Eventide Island. Just be careful of the Boss Bokoblin and his army that walk between Soka Point and Cape Cresia.
It should be smooth sailing from there. Necluda Sea is a quite calm body of water, even when it’s raining. TotK only contains only a small handful of aquatic enemies. The biggest threat is getting stranded in the middle of the water, which is why you should make sure to use the Zonai fan. Attaching Zonai batteries, a sail, and other devices to help you move around the ocean can be beneficial too.
How to Reach Hateno Village
Hateno is located on the north side of the Necluda Sea. Reaching it is much easier than Lurelin since there are multiple rest spots along the way. Starting from Central Hyrule which contains princess Zelda’s castle; you can reach Hateno by traveling through either Dueling Peaks or Kakariko Village. Both those landmarks have a road on their opposite sides that eventually connect to each other. Take the third road at the crossing over to Fort Hateno. Continue east until you reach Hateno Village. Remember to activate the Zanmik Shrine in town so that you can fast travel here later.
Sailing from Hateno to Eventide
South of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab is a beach/ There is a ship wreckage between Kitano Bay and Hateno Bay that you can use to craft a new boat. Rather than sailing all the way down to Eventide in one go, you should instead aim for Tenoko Island. This island contains more boats, nearly a dozen Zonai batteries, and plenty of other supplies that can get you the rest of the way to Eventide safely.
Jumping Down the Eventide Chasm
Midna’s Helmet is hidden within the depths under Eventide Island, meaning that the Eventide Island Chasm is the only possible route in all of Zelda TotK that can take you to where you need to go. Thankfully, the chasm is incredibly easy to find. It is a massive hole with a red Gloom aura sitting on the far north side of the island. The gloomy aura may even be the first thing you notice from the island if you travel directly from Tenoko Island to this island. If not, you can still find its location by simply walking up the beach on the left side of the island.
You can do the Marari-in Shrine quest before jumping down into the chasm if you desperately want a fast traveling location here, but there is actually a way to get back up from the depths. The Ni-iraram Lightroot acts as a fast travel location, and near it is a structure that Link can use the Ascend ability on to get back to the surface. Using Ascend there will take you directly to the very top of Eventide island.
- Bring many Brightbloom Seeds to throw in the depths. The dark world below Hyrule can be hard to navigate without the light Brightboom Seeds create when struck.
- Torches can also help you find your way through the darkness. Make sure to bring flint or some form of fire to light your torch.
- South of the chasm hole is a colosseum. It’ll be important later, but for now you should walk around it.
- Activate the Ni-iraram Lightroot to make this entire section of the depths light up.
Becoming the Bokoblin Colosseum Champion
The largest structure underneath Eventide Island is an arena known as the Lone Island Colosseum. This colosseum contains a menacingly glowing chest in the center. This chest contains Midna’s Helmet, but it is locked until you become the champion. Entering the arena will make the gate shut, and will trigger the first wave of enemies. Defeating all five phases will result in the chest being unlocked.
All the Bokoblins you’re about to face can inflict Goom damage. You should cook Sundelions to create food capable of restoring broken health. The only other way to regain Gloom infected hearts is to be revived by a Fairy in your inventory, but it’d be better not to waste a valuable resource. Once you’re ready, head into the arena to begin the gauntlet.
First Colosseum Wave: Red Bokoblin Tips
- This wave contains 3 Red Bokoblins. Two have melee weapons, while the other uses a fire bow.
- Strong weapons like the Master Sword should be able to take out all of these foes without difficulty.
- Don’t stand in place too long or you’ll get sniped by a fire arrow.
Second Colosseum Wave: Blue Bokoblin Tips
- Phase 2 will force the hero to fight 3 Blue Bokoblins. They are a little more tanky than Red Bokoblins, but should be relatively easy to defeat.
- These Bokoblins come equipped with long weapons. You can create your own long weapons with the Fuse ability.
- Try outranging your enemies with a bow. Attach Bombflowers to the arrows for an easy victory.
Third Colosseum Wave: Black Bokoblin Tips
- The third wave contains only 2 enemies this time. They are Black Bokoblins which are even stronger than both previous kinds.
- These enemies will use weapons infused with rocks. This makes their mighty swing attack even deadlier.
- This is another fight that you should try using ranged weapons during.
Fourth Colosseum Wave: White Bokoblin Tips
- Now you must face a single White Bokoblin. This is the strongest kind of Bokoblin, but it’s a little easier than the previous battle due not needing to focus on multiple opponents.
- Sage spirits can make fighting this foe a lot easier since they can outnumber your opponent.
- If you’re fighting 1-on-1 then make good use of perfect dodges. Back flip when it swings its weapon at you to create an opening.
Final Colosseum Wave Tips
- The last thing you must do to claim Midna’s Helmet as your prize is to defeat one of each kind of Bokoblin at the same time.
- The most dangerous of these monsters is the bow user. It can fire bomb arrows that deal devastating amounts of damage. You should take this one out as soon as possible, unless you’re confident enough at dodging massive explosions. It’ll fire at you even if its allies get hit, so you could potentially use its arrows in your favor.
- The other Bokoblins all have melee weapons, so just defeat them like you did in the previous phases.
Midna Helmet Stats and Upgrades
This helmet can not be enhanced by a Great Fairy, but it does start with 7 defense. Most other pieces of equipment start out between 1-4 defense, so this is actually quite a high stat for those that haven’t upgraded anything to the max yet. It can still be quite a valuable piece of armor near the end of the game due to how much Gloom is in the final area.
Midna’s Helmet offers one tier of Gloom Resistance. Players can have up to three tiers of an ability. You’ll need the Depths Armor set to gain the additional Gloom Resistance tiers. That armor set can be upgraded four times at Great Fairy Fountains Use this guide to help you unlock all Great Fairies,
