Tears of the Kingdom Creature Guide | MoblinsMoblins are one of the many creatures that are found within Ganondorf’s army, being the broad enforcers of the group. They are large lanky creatures with boar-like features that specialize in two-handed weapons and throwing things at their enemies. Because of this, they make great additions to a Bokoblin troop as a powerful guard to protect smaller units. They are social with their kind and lesser creatures, notably putting themselves between the player and other Bokoblins. They stand as tall as the standard Bokoblin boss and deal about as much damage, just lacking their general durability.

These creatures can be one of the most entertaining combatants to fight due to the fact that they have competent fighting tactics. They prefer up close and personal attacks, though they aren’t as fast as units such as the Lizalfos. Additionally, they work on a coloration basis similar to Bokoblins and Horriblins with the added bonus of being very intelligent. It’s notable that they are capable of using rudimentary war tactics such as flanking and redirection in order to try and challenge players wit. Considering these creatures are part of Ganondorf’s army and are true monsters they have the ability to show exceeding intelligence that makes them masters of conflict.

Creature description

Moblins are tall enforcers for Ganondorf’s army, serving as the large lanky tanks to their outposts. They are uncommon to find, though often can be seen in the presence of Bokoblins and horriblins. These creatures have immense strength and good reach, typically carrying weapons ranging from two-handed clubs to metal swords. Moblins are prized for their horns and fangs which are strong enough to crush through solid rock. These Moblins are incredibly durable and come in the same color variety as Bokoblins and horriblins. With tusks protruding from a boar-like snout, they wrap their arms and legs up in bandaging for added armor.

Moblins can lift and throw heavy objects like boulders and explosive barrels, making them deadly in a group fight. Since their upright bodies are hunched over, they can see sneaking Hylians making their way into their camps. These creatures could set traps, or blare horns to attract more to their location. These Bokoblins are a lot taller than normal Bokoblins. They don’t have as many class variations as Bokoblins, being limited to melee combatants and ranged combatants.

Creature colors

Moblins typically can be found in the four main color variations most of Ganondorf’s army holds. Red is the weakest unit, and silver is the strongest variation. Accordingly, these creatures can be found with different horn structures depending on their colorations. Their strength and durability directly scale with the color of the Moblin, going from annoyance to deadly adversary. Additionally, it seems that Moblins will have increased intelligence based on their coloration; using increasingly more complex tactics to try and defeat their enemies.

Red

Red Moblins are the most common variety of these tall lanky boar folk. These Moblins have bright red skin with shining blue eyes. They can be found around outposts, and occasionally roam by themselves throughout Hyrule. They are incredibly capable warriors focusing on two-handed weapons or archery in order to defend themselves. Red variants will often be seen among other red varieties of Ganondorf’s army, especially Bokoblins. They use fused weapons like two-handed sticks with a boulder attached, or iron weapons occasionally. Occasionally, these creatures are capable of picking up and throwing barrels at the exact location the player is standing at.

Blue

Blue Moblins are physically superior to their red counterparts, being both stronger and having more developed horns than their red versions. These blue Moblins are far more aggressive as well, choosing to not only defend their homes but to attack things on sight. Being highly confrontational, these blue Moblins specialize in using everything from steel weapons to fused items. Having dark blue skin with bright orange eyes, they are also notable for having thick lanky arms and a unique horn. Their snout has a tan crease across the top of it which seems like it could be some form of tribal paint.

Black

Black Moblins are one of the more powerful variants of their species, appearing as far stronger and smarter than their red and blue counterparts. These creatures are notable for their black skin with white tribal paint across their whole body. Crimson eyes stare through the darkness of the caves they inhabit and often can be seen carrying large fusion weapons like cleavers and axes. They are vastly intelligent, using group tactics with Bokoblins and their bosses to swarm enemies; tanking damage for their smaller units. They are incredibly durable, and aggressive, being generally more brutal than others in Ganondorf’s army.

Silver

Silver Moblins are the deadliest variant of their species, appearing as an all-silver creature with black body paint creating tribal markings. They are the most effective of their kind in combat, typically using incredibly powerful weapons that are both durable and destructive. These creatures can often be attributed to very important locations and to some important plot lines. They are faster, more aggressive, and absolutely ruthless when fighting, using rapid sweeping attacks to overwhelm their opponents. Silver Moblins are often solitary or with others in their number, and can be one of the most tedious enemies in Tears of the Kingdom to deal with.

Creature Locations

Moblins as a whole are one of the major enforcers of Ganondorf’s army, and thus usually bolster his ranks. They can be found in most places where Bokoblins and horriblins are located, and definitely prefer fortifications and structures over those caves. Moblins are incredibly powerful lanky units that can use high places to increase the range of their barrel throwing, as well as act as guards for these outposts. Since these Moblins are larger creatures they don’t have mounts or means of alternative travel. For this reason, they can be seen as slow-moving roving bands of raiders that could easily attack travelers on the road.

Red Moblins

Red Moblins can often be found in the regions of Hyrule Field and the central Hyrule Depths. They can be seen in varying locations from outposts and strongholds to caves and small encampments. As previously mentioned they almost always stay around their smaller Bokoblin allies except for rare raiding parties. When roving Hyrule on their own, they can often be seen accompanied by either another of their kind or smaller Bokoblin allies. In situations where a boss Bokoblin is not present, Moblins will take command of these units.

Black Moblin

Blue Moblins

Blue Moblins are usually found all over Hyrule, especially in Hyrule Field and Eldin Canyon. The blue Bokoblins like to stay near camps and intricate wooden structures. They sometimes hang around their lesser red counterparts but are usually left in charge of them. Blue Moblins can be found in caves and ruins in places of minor importance, like armor. In addition to this, they hang out with horriblins and even rarer, Hinox. Travelers and other creatures not part of Ganondorf’s army are also harassed by these creatures.

Black Moblins

Moblins are found primarily in caves and ruins; they are Ganondorf’s shock troops. Gerudo Highlands and Deep Akkala are good places to see them. The creatures are drawn to dark places or gloomy corruption; they also block essential items. The majority of them guard the camps of Bokoblins or Lizalfos and prefer the depths of the surface. Large creatures like to stay near things they can throw, like explosive barrels, so they can rush in after an explosion. As a result of their aggressive and powerful nature, they often appear in later games.

Silver Moblins

Silver Moblins do not have a known common location that they can be found in, being locked until late game. They are incredibly rare, and powerful creatures that can easily defeat the player with maximum hearts in a few swings. These creatures are notable for the fact that they are located in the “Crisis at Hyrule Castle” quest. Due to the fact that they are rare to find, their horns and fangs can create some very potent items. They are often solitary or with other silver creatures within Ganondorf’s army, and will put up a very hard fight when meeting them.

Creature Tactics

Since Moblins are large lanky creatures, they prefer a fighting style that uses sweeping and cleaving actions over quick and accurate swings. They attempt to act as the front lines when able and will put themselves between the player and the rest of their race. From a distance, they mix archery with throwing explosive barrels and boulders due to their immense strength. They are slow-moving creatures who can smash stones with their horns, as well as being a potent scout. Their large size lends them the ability to spot others from a distance that would otherwise be able to sneak up on areas beforehand. When overwhelmed they will use a large horn to call for others around them including Bokoblins and horriblins.

Creature Loot

Moblins have a wide variety of loot that drops from their many colors; mostly being fangs, horns, and guts. While guts and fangs remain similar in appearance, they just have more fusion power or elixir potency depending on the color. Instead, the bread and butter of these creatures are their unique horns, which are described as being strong enough to break rock with ease. Their shape and sizes vary by coloration, however, they are all useful for weapons as the game scales in difficulty. Early on, these horns can help make good rock-smashing weapons, as well as allow for the easy breaking of enemy armor. Their horns vary in shape and size, however, they provide the player with some of the most unique weapons from pickaxes to full-on war hammers.

Red Horns

Red Moblins horns appear like rocky eggs on the top of their heads. These conical horns are especially strong, being capable of shattering through stone and ore deposits. It will appear as a brown lump with dark spots and barbs protruding from all sides. The horn’s circumference is notably larger than the Moblins head, making it ideal for headbutting or charging enemies. Additionally, these horns provide the red Moblins with protection from ranged attacks or items falling on them. These horns are great early on for making crushing weapons like hammers and clubs, having a base fusion power of six. These are most effective when put on hammers or shields, providing bonus blunt damage to creatures.

Blue Horns

Blue Moblins horns appear as something akin to a bull’s horns. The majority of their horn is covered in what looks like a tough thick skin. Moblins can impale their opponents with sharp protruding points on either side. When combining them with other items, these horns can be used to create a very potent pickaxe. These pickaxes are incredibly great for smashing through rock deposits and ores and are incredibly durable having a fusion power of 13. Weapons with a blue Moblin horn attached to them deal piercing and smashing damage simultaneously.

Black Horns

While it can be a little comical to say, black Moblins have horns that appear like pineapples in the real world. These sharp barbed spiked horns are incredibly strong, having a fusion power of 24, and making potent spears and clubs. These horns have a dark stone appearance with a deep yellow spike that could easily be confused with ore deposits. These horns are incredibly good at breaking enemy armor and can crack ore deposits in a single strike. Black Moblin horns are incredibly potent for what they are, though the weapons they fuse into are odd in appearance. These spiky pineapple weapons can easily knock back enemies, as well as are great for going through caves or ruins.

Silver Horns

Silver Moblins have horns that resemble those of rams, except they have protruding spikes through each of the spirals. These horns are excessively rare like the creature type themselves, and offer some of the best bonuses in the game. When fused to an item they will effectively create a giant hammer that is capable of knocking enemies back, breaking armor and stone, and crushing any who stand in your way. They add a base fusion power of 33 and also slightly increase the speed of your swings. Power attacks with a silver Moblins horn weapon will throw enemies backward, putting them on the ground.

Player Tactics

The best ways to deal with Moblins are to use ranged explosives and defensive counterattacks in order to circumvent their wide broad swings and overwhelming reach. Keeping yourself mobile will ensure that the Moblin has to constantly move, and thus isn’t able to swing. One of the best ways of dealing with these creatures is to shoot a muddlebud into a group of Moblins and Bokoblins. This will start causing them to fight each other until there are only a few of the strongest enemies left.

Another way to avoid dealing with Moblins is to simply wear the Moblin mask which can be acquired in Hyrule. This will allow you to study the creatures passively, as well as have them help you in battle. It’s notable that while wearing this mask, Moblins will try to communicate with the player in their own language. This leads to the suggestion that like Bokoblins, Moblins have a level of intelligence and social needs.

Ganondorf’s Enforcers

As the enforcers of Ganondorf’s army, they are far more elite than the typical soldier Bokoblin. They have durability that’s above that of Lizalfos and Bokoblins, however not quite as much as a boss Bokoblin. Additionally, they stand about as high as a boss Bokoblin however are stoutly shorter than a standard Hinox. When interacting with them, they will do actions such as calling for others or breaking a conflict in order to find an alternate solution. Because of this, they can be one of the most entertaining enemies to fight, and that makes them a personal favorite in Tears of the Kingdom!
