Red Dead Redemption 2: Hard-To-Get Cigarette Cards Guide

There are 144 cigarette cards to collect in Red Dead Redemption 2, and some are much harder to get than others. This guide will help you with getting those trickier cards, so you won't get shot at for trespassing while trying to get a card in a gang hideout or private property.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Hard-To-Get Cigarette Cards Guide Cover

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a lot of collectibles for you to go out and find. One of these collectibles are the cigarette cards, scattered all over the vast map. There are 144 cigarette cards altogether to collect, 12 cards for each of the 12 sets. Most of them are very easy to find and get, usually sitting on top of a barrel or table. Some of them, however, are more difficult to obtain.

WHY ARE SOME CARDS HARDER TO GET?

There are a number of reasons why some of these cards are harder to get. Some of them you can’t get to until after a certain point in the game, when an area becomes available for you to explore.

Some are located in places where access is difficult. They may be located on someone’s private property, and if you even approach their property, they’ll become hostile. A lot of private homeowners don’t take kindly to you wandering around their property and won’t be afraid to chase you away.

On private property, you'll usually be told to go away - or else.

On private property, you’ll usually be told to go away – or else.

Other places are strictly out-of-bounds and do not like trespassers. These places usually have guards stationed at the entrance who will order you to go away – or else. Even if you bypass the guards and sneak in, you’re bound to get caught by someone, who will raise the alarm. Before you know it, you’ve got a dozen angry people shooting at you, and before you can whip your gun out and fight back, you’re dead.

You’ll also get cards located in places where gangs are based, which is not good news for you. As you might expect, you won’t be welcomed with open arms by gangs if you wander into their camp. They don’t care if you don’t want any trouble and just want to pick up a cigarette card. You’re asking for trouble just walking up to them.

THE BUYING-PREMIUM-CIGARETTE-PACKS METHOD

All these setbacks can be very frustrating if you want to go around and find all the cards. So, what can you do? Well, there is the old popular trick of buying all the premium cigarettes from the general stores to get all the cards that way. In every premium cigarette pack, you get a card.

Cigarette cards come with premium cigarettes.

Cigarette cards come with premium cigarettes.

This trick is very clever, but it does have its drawbacks. Firstly, unless you’ve upgraded your satchel (i.e. your inventory) to max. capacity, you’ll have to discard your current cigarette packs, because your satchel can only carry so many at a time. Your basic satchel can only carry up to 20 cigarette packs at a time, and there are 144 cigarette cards to get. Secondly, the cards you get are random. This becomes a problem when you’ve got most of the cards and are looking to get a specific one. You’ll end up with lots of extra cards. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as you can sell your spare cards. You can get your money back from buying all those cigarette packs, as buying them all can get costly, which isn’t ideal if you aren’t very well off.

WHY YOU SHOULD TRY AND GET ALL THE CARDS

If you don’t want to use the buying-premium-cigarettes-to-get-all-the-cards method, that’s fine. What else can you do then? Well, all you can do is go out and find the cards scattered around the world. It may seem daunting, having to go to these locations and endure hostilities for the sake of completing a card collection, but it’s worth it. By completing a cigarette card set, when you send it off to Phineas T. Ramsbottom, he’ll give you a very generous reward for your efforts. You’ll get another reward for completing and sending off the entire 12-set collection. Completing one cigarette card set is also a requirement towards getting 100% completion.

When you complete full card sets and send them off, you get some cool rewards, and not just cash.

When you complete full card sets and send them off, you get some cool rewards, and not just cash.

If you’re happy to go around finding all the cards, that’s fine too, but what about the cards hidden away on private properties, aggressively protected? You could just shoot anyone who objects to you entering their private property, but that can bring you a whole world of trouble. First off, you’ll lose Honor, which is not good if you’re seeking to keep that Honor level as high as possible. Secondly, killing someone can alert the law or have people swarming all over you, giving you a Wanted level and forcing you to either fight or fly.

If you want to risk losing Honor or aren’t afraid for a showdown,  that’s up to you, but what if you’d rather avoid this outcome? Well, that’s where this guide comes in handy. For every card that requires a little more effort to get than just walking up to it and picking it up, this guide will take you through the best ways to reach them. Some cards are in places that you visit during missions throughout the story. Other cards are located in places that may become unoccupied or even abandoned at certain points in the game. Whatever card that seems out of reach or impossible to get without getting into trouble, this guide will take you through each of those harder-to-get cards, so you can complete your collection.

It's a lot easier to find cards at places after they become abandoned.

It’s a lot easier to find cards at places after they become abandoned.

SPEAK TO PHINEAS T. RAMSBOTTOM FIRST

First off though, before you do anything, you must make sure you have started the Stranger mission “Smoking and Other Hobbies”. This mission becomes available during Chapter 2, after you have completed the Rev. Swanson main story mission “Who Is Not Without Sin“. The Stranger mission is located at Flatneck Station, the train station near the long train bridge where the Rev.’s mission took place. There, you need to look for a gentleman called Phineas T. Ramsbottom. He tells you all about cigarette cards and how valuable a whole set is. Once you have spoken to Mr. Ramsbottom, the mission is added to your task list. It will track how many card sets you have collected. In order to officially complete a set, you must send it off at any Post Office to Mr. Ramsbottom, who will send you a reward for your efforts. You’ll get another reward for completing and sending off all 12 sets.

The reason you must trigger “Smoking and Other Hobbies” before you start searching for the cards is because some of the cards won’t be available to find in the world unless you’ve spoken to Mr. Ramsbottom first. You also can’t send your completed sets and receive your rewards before speaking to him first. Before you start you cigarette-card-hunting quest, make sure you speak to Mr. Ramsbottom first.

AMAZING INVENTIONS

STEAM LOCOMOTIVE (#1)

LOCATION: Abandoned Church, Bolger Glade, Scarlett Meadows, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: Climb up to the upper level of the church, then jump across the gap to the wooden platform. You’ll find a bird’s nest with the card inside.

HOW TO GET: Sometimes, the Abandoned Church is used as a hideout by the Lemoyne Raiders, who are ready to shoot at any strangers who approaches, including you. You can either defeat them in a shootout, or leave and return later, when the place should be empty.

ELECTRICAL EXECUTION APPARATUS (#3)

LOCATION: Hanging Dog Ranch, Big Valley, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: In the house, go to the top floor. Look under the bunk bed nearest the window.

HOW TO GET: This is a notorious gang hideout, where they’ll shoot any strangers who approaches, making this a tricky card to reach. You can visit this place during the Chapter 6 mission “Mrs. Sadie Adler, Widow“, where you go with Sadie to teach the gang members not to mess with Mrs. Adler. This is also a good opportunity to look for this card and any others on the property, after the gang are dealt with. There are 4 cards altogether at Hanging Dog Ranch. The other 3 to look out for are: Bart Love, Augusta Tremlow, and Geraldine Emerson.

TYPEWRITER CARD (#4)

LOCATION: Blackwater, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: Between the E and the R in Blackwater on the map is a warehouse. Look to the left of the ramp going up to the big doors. Against the wall and behind some bushes, between the door and the ramp, there are some barrels. On one of them is this card.

HOW TO GET: Blackwater is out of bounds until after Chapter 6, when you’ll be free to visit.

MANNED GLIDER CARD (#7)

LOCATION: Caliga Hall, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: Look in a big red building away from the main house (near where it says ‘Caliga Hall’ on the map). Inside are lots of workbenches, with the card being on one of them.

HOW TO GET: The residents and guards of Caliga Hall don’t let just anyone visit their property. You will only be welcome on their land during a certain period in Chapter 3. Take advantage of this and get the card while you can.

DYNAMITE CARD (#8)

LOCATION: Shady Belle, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: On a railing on the back porch of the house.

HOW TO GET: This is the gang’s home base during Chapter 4. It’s very easy to swipe the card during this period. Make sure you don’t forget to do so, because when the house is not occupied by Dutch’s gang, other gangs come to make it their home, and they’re not going to share it with anybody.

ARTISTS, WRITERS, & POETS

EDITH CORINNE CARD (#1)

LOCATION: Braithwaite Manor, Scarlett Meadows, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: Look behind the main house. The card is under a worktable next to some clotheslines.

HOW TO GET: The Braithwaite family are not a pleasant bunch, and whilst you do deal business with them during Chapter 3, you don’t really get an opportunity to explore the grounds of this vast property. However, after Chapter 6, you do. The family are gone, and the current tenants are friendly and aren’t bothered at all about you wandering around, so this is a great opportunity to return to this property and grab this card.

ALDOUS BRAMLEY CARD (#4)

LOCATION: Blackwater, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: On the southern road leading out of Blackwater, you’ll find a big green-blue house (it’s on the right as you leave Blackwater). Go up the steps towards the front door and then turn right down the porch. Between two chairs on a small table is this card.

HOW TO GET: Picking up the card is easy, but you can only get it after Chapter 6, when you can travel to Blackwater.

PRESTON T. STEPHENSON CARD (#5)

LOCATION: Annesburg, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: In the office of the big red mining building, sitting on the desk.

HOW TO GET: This place is heavily guarded and they don’t let people walk in. Unless you want to have a gunfight and get a wanted level on top of that, you can wait until the Chapter 6 mission “Just a Social Call“. You’ll get the chance to run through this very building, so whilst you’re fighting your way through, you can dash into the office and pick up the card.

You may also get a lucky opportunity to just sneak in, go to the office, grab the card, then sneak out undetected again. In order to do this, observe the entrances into the mining building. There are usually guards at every entrance, ready to order you to leave as soon as you get near. Sometimes though, you may get lucky, as a guard may not be waiting by a door. If this happens, grab the moment and sneak in. There will be workers inside, but they won’t snitch on you. It’s only the guards you have to worry about.

EVELYN MILLER CARD (#6)

LOCATION: Blackwater, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: Head towards Blackwater from the west side, along the road above ‘Blackwater’ on the map. There is a big house on the right. Look in the backyard, where you should see lots of laundry. The card is on a table next to a pile of laundry.

HOW TO GET: You cannot get to Blackwater until after Chapter 6, so this card will have to wait until then.

GEORGE DIXIE CARD (#11)

LOCATION: Guthrie Farm, The Heartlands, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: Enter the house, then turn right into the corridor. Go through the left door. You’ll enter a bedroom. The card is on the bed with the blue covers, next to the guitar.

HOW TO GET: This is an occupied property with homeowners who don’t like you poking about. You get to go to this location thanks to Leopold Strauss’s moneylending missions, where one of his debtors, Chick Matthews, is. This may give you an opportunity to swipe the card as well as Matthews’ debt.

FAMOUS GUNSLINGERS

OTIS MILLER BOYS CARD (#2)

LOCATION: Six Point Cabin, Cumberland Forest, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: In the camp area of the gang hideout, look for a pale blue wagon situated next to a red table. In the back of this wagon, there is the cigarette card.

HOW TO GET: Unfortunately, this location is a gang hideout for the O’Driscolls. As you can imagine, they won’t like it if you just wander up to grab the card. If you go anywhere near, they’ll be ready to draw their guns.

How do you avoid a confrontation with the O’Driscolls? There are a few ways. First of all, you have to visit this place during the Chapter 2 mission “Paying a Social Call“. It means going to battle with the O’Driscolls during the mission, but once it’s over, you can explore the camp, picking up any items, including the cigarette card. You do have to be careful though, because if you linger around too long, a civilian will notice all the dead bodies, reporting it to the law.

There is another way to get to this card and this place without going through the hassle of a gang fight. There are two times during the game where the camp is mercifully empty and free to explore. The first is before the mission “Paying a Social Call”. If you forget to get the card before then, don’t worry. You’ll get another opportunity after Chapter 6, when the place will once again be deserted.

JACK HALL GANG CARD (#3)

LOCATION: Chez Porter, West Grizzlies, Ambarino

WHERE TO FIND: Inside the cabin near the barn, on the windowsill.

HOW TO GET: This place isn’t occupied by a gang, but a family called the Porter’s. They don’t like strangers wandering onto their property, so if they spot you, they’ll make sure you clear off. This presents a problem for you if you’re trying to get this card.

To avoid an unwelcome meeting with the Porter’s, here’s what to do. During Chapter 2, Javier Escuella will offer you the opportunity to go and rob a house with him, specifically, this one. Doing this means having to fight the family anyway, but once you’re done, you can search the place and grab the card.

Alternatively, if you’d rather avoid a battle with the Porter’s, you can just wait until after the mission and return, where the place will be empty.

BLACK BELLE CARD (#8)

LOCATION: Blackwater, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: On the pier, go through the entrance where the riverboat company sign is. On the right are a load of crates and barrels. Go to the farthest one in the top right corner, near where you see a streetlight. The card is on top of a barrel near the white fence.

HOW TO GET: Fortunately, this card is not on the sight of a gang hideout or private property. Unfortunately, it’s located in Blackwater, an area unavailable for access until after Chapter 6.

BILLY MIDNIGHT CARD (#9)

LOCATION: Tumbleweed, New Austin

WHERE TO FIND: On the top platform of the windmill on the outskirts of the town.

HOW TO GET: Like Blackwater, Tumbleweed is set in a location that is unavailable for you to safely enter until after Chapter 6.

EMMET GRANGER CARD (#10)

LOCATIONS: Fort Wallace, Cumberland Forest, New Hanover/Canebreak Manor, Bluewater Marsh, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: Fort Wallace: Located on a table in a small shack./Canebreak Manor: On the table in the middle of the shack.

HOW TO GET: There are two places where you can get this card. Where you choose to get it is up to you.

The first is at Fort Wallace. This is the harder way to get it because Fort Wallace is always strictly out of bounds, with guards patrolling the place, and if you approach, they’ll tell you to go away. The only time you ever get to access Fort Wallace is during the missions “The King’s Son” during Chapter 6. This mission is quite involved, with stealth, shoot-outs, and escaping.

If you’d rather avoid the trouble of going to Fort Wallace, fortunately, there is another place you can get this card. There is a place called Canebreak Manor, where Black Belle is hiding out. In a Stranger mission called “The Noblest of Men, and Women“, you are required to locate Black Belle, who is staying here. If you visit her, you can help her fight off some men, and then she’ll depart. After that, the place is completely deserted. When you decide to pick up the card, during or after the mission, is up to you.

BART LOVE CARD (#12)

LOCATION: Hanging Dog Ranch, Big Valley, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: Inside the house, on a shelf near the couch.

HOW TO GET: Hanging Dog Ranch is a notorious place. It is always occupied by gangs, so naturally, you’ll get attacked if you even wander close to the place.

Fortunately, you do get an opportunity to visit the place. During Chapter 6, there is a mission called “Mrs. Sadie Adler, Widow”. It involves a big shootout, but once you’re done, you can explore the ranch and grab not only this card, but any other cigarette cards lying around.

FAUNA OF AMERICA

BLACK WIDOW CARD (#1)

LOCATION: Vetter’s Echo, Big Valley, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: On the desk.

HOW TO GET: When you arrive at this small cabin, you’ll be met with a nasty surprise. It seems that there is already someone here: a big Grizzly bear! (Maybe he’s looking for the cigarette cards too?) You’ll have to quickly kill the bear before you can start searching for the card. Ideally, jump into Dead Eye mode so the bear doesn’t get the chance to maul you.

FLORA OF AMERICA

YARROW CARD (#4)

LOCATION: Saint Denis, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: This cabin is located below the N in Bayou Nwa on the map. This card is found on the windowsill on the left side of the door, by a plant pot.

HOW TO GET: Nestled in the bushes of the swamps is this cabin, home to a rather friendly man – perhaps too friendly. You don’t want to find out what happens if he ambushes you. You’ll have to subdue him in order to search the place unscathed.

INDIAN TOBACCO CARD (#5)

LOCATION: Saint Denis, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: This cabin is located below the N in Bayou Nwa on the map. This card is found on a crate on the left side of the cabin, near a bottle.

HOW TO GET: This is the same location as the Yarrow card, so you can get that card and this card at the same time.

DESERT FAN PALM CARD (#8)

LOCATION: Tumbleweed, New Austin

WHERE TO FIND: Go to the mansion. The card is located on the front porch, on a table between two chairs to the right of the main doors.

HOW TO GET: Tumbleweed is an unreachable place until after Chapter 6, so you’ll have to wait until then to get this card.

HORSE CRIPPLER CACTUS CARD (#10)

LOCATION: Caliga Hall, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: At a little shack by the river, there is a workbench, where the card is.

HOW TO GET: You visit Caliga Hall a few times during Chapter 3 for certain missions. This is a good time to get this card, when you are on good terms with the residents at the hall. At other times, if you try to approach this location, you’ll get a hostile reception.

BLAZING STAR CARD (#11)

LOCATION: Vetter’s Echo, Big Valley, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: Along the porch railing outside.

HOW TO GET: This is the same location where the Black Widow Spider card is. A bear will be there to greet you (and eat you!) when you first arrive at this cabin, so you’ll have to deal with it before you get the card, otherwise the bear will get you first.

CAROLINA LUPINE CARD (#12)

LOCATION: Tumbleweed, New Austin

WHERE TO FIND: On top of the roof of the sheriff’s building. There is a ladder you can climb to get on top, or climb up via the crates by the side of the building.

HOW TO GET: Tumbleweed and all of New Austin is a no-go zone until after Chapter 6.

GEMS OF BEAUTY

LEILA STETSON CARD (#1)

LOCATION: Carmody Dell, The Heartlands, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: On the windowsill near the fireplace.

HOW TO GET: This rather pleasant house is occupied, which means that any attempts to enter while the homeowners are present won’t be received well. Fortunately, you get an opportunity to visit this place in Chapter 2, during a mission called “The Spines of America“, when you go to rob the place with help from Hosea Matthews. Whilst grabbing their valuables inside the house, you can pick up this card.

There’s also a better time to get into this property. Before the mission “The Spines of America”, the place is deserted, so you can get the card then. However, the place will be occupied after the mission, so either get the card before or during the mission.

ISABELLE STANDISH CARD (#4)

LOCATION: Annesburg, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: Inside the mine shaft, in the open area section, sitting on a table in the middle of the area.

HOW TO GET: This card is in an awkward place. You’re not really allowed in the mines, probably because it’s too dangerous. There are guards stationed at the main entrance, who will tell you to go away when you get too close.

If you don’t want to deal with the guards, find the other entrance into the mines, which is just outside Annesburg. You’ll see a hole in the ground with a ladder leading down. Go down the ladder until you reach the bottom, then go and head over to the open space area. The table is in the middle of this large area. This way, you can avoid the guards. Try not to hang around for too long though, in case anyone gets suspicious of your presence. You don’t want to overstay your welcome (not that you were welcome in the first place).

MAUD ENGEL CARD (#5)

LOCATION: Cornwall Kerosene & Tar, The Heartlands, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: Located on a table on the porch of a shack.

HOW TO GET: The people at Cornwall Kerosene & Tar aren’t really welcoming to visitors, including you. Fortunately, you’ll get your opportunity to visit this place and get your card after Chapter 6, when you’ll discover that the place is completely deserted.

SADIE RUSSELL CARD (#6)

LOCATION: Blackwater, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: On a barrel inside the chicken coop in the alleyway behind the barber.

HOW TO GET: Blackwater isn’t a place you can access until Chapter 6, so wait until then to get this card.

GERALDINE EMERSON CARD (#7)

LOCATION: Hanging Dog Ranch, Big Valley, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: On a crate at the back of the top level of the barn.

HOW TO GET: There are a lot of cigarette cards at the notorious gang hideout of Hanging Dog Ranch, including this one. You’ll have to kill everyone before you can explore. You get to go to this place anyway during the Chapter 6 mission “Mrs. Sadie Adler, Widow”.

HORSES

ANDALUSIAN CARD (#3)

LOCATION: Painted Sky, Big Valley, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: In the stables, at the back, the card is sitting on a shelf on the wall.

HOW TO GET: This place has a homeowner who really doesn’t like you wandering around his property. Luckily, you get two golden opportunities to visit this place during the game’s story.

Firstly, Leopold Strauss sends you here to collect a debt, so you can also collect the card. Secondly, later in the game, you’ll return to this property to help Sadie find a bounty. The bounty is hiding in the barn. After you’ve dealt with him, you can grab the card.

AMERICAN STANDARDBRED CARD (#4)

LOCATION: Catfish Jacksons, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: Inside the boy’s bedroom, on the desk.

HOW TO GET: The residents at Catfish Jacksons don’t seem to have the best of luck, at least no thanks to you and Dutch’s gang. You get two opportunities to visit this place. Firstly, Leopold Strauss sends you here on a debt collecting mission. Secondly, you can rob the place and swipe the card then.

DUTCH WARMBLOOD CARD (#7)

LOCATION: Downes Ranch, The Heartlands, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: Inside the house, on the mantelpiece to the right of the bed.

HOW TO GET: The Downes at the ranch are really down on their luck. It’s best that we don’t bother them too much. Surely they won’t mind if we grab this card? Hmm, perhaps so, if we’ve burdened them enough. Wait until soon after they vacate the lot and then return and get this card. Don’t wait too long though, because a new homeowner moves in and they’re not keen on visitors either. Perhaps they’ve heard of the way you treated the Downes?

TURKOMAN CARD (#8)

LOCATIONS: Fort Wallace, Cumberland Forest, New Hanover/Veteran’s Homestead, O’Creagh’s Run, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: Fort Wallace: On a crate at the base of the northwest tower./Veteran’s Homestead: On a workbench outside.

HOW TO GET: You could get this card at Fort Wallace, but the only time you get to go there is during the Chapter 6 mission “The King’s Son”, and you’ll be busy shooting and stuff. It’s probably better if you get the card at Veteran’s Homestead. Hamish won’t mind at all, since he’s such a nice guy.

HUNGARIAN HALFBRED CARD (#9)

LOCATION: Armadillo, Cholla Springs, New Austin

WHERE TO FIND: Look behind the saloon. Look to the big building that looks like a stable with faded red paint. This is the blacksmith. Head to the big doors. At the foot of the door in the gaps, there’s a card waiting to be picked up.

HOW TO GET: Unfortunately, Blackwater is off limits until after Chapter 6.

MUSTANG CARD (#10)

LOCATION: Downes Ranch, The Heartlands, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: Look in the barn on the top floor. It’s on a bale of hay.

HOW TO GET: This card is located at the same property as the Andalusian horse card. Ideally, wait until the poor Downes family have left the property (but don’t wait too late, when someone else has moved in).

MISSOURI FOX TROTTER CARD (#12)

LOCATION: Catfish Jacksons, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: In the boy’s bedroom, on his desk.

HOW TO GET: This is the second card at Catfish Jacksons. It’s right next to the American Standardbred (#4) card. Make sure you pick both of them up while you’re there, so you don’t need to pay these poor folk another visit.

MARVELS OF TRAVEL

U.S. FRIGATE CARD (#7)

LOCATION: Braithwaite Manor, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: Inside the building situated along the river west of the main house. The card is on a workbench next to an upturned boat.

HOW TO GET: The Braithwaite’s generally don’t like visitors wandering around the grounds of their property. However, after Chapter 6, the Braithwaite’s no longer run the house, and the current residents are much friendlier and accommodating, so now is your chance to get this card.

PROMINENT AMERICANS

LEVITICUS CORNWALL CARD (#4)

LOCATIONS: Fort Wallace, Cumberland Forest, New Hanover/Valentine, The Heartlands, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: Fort Wallace: On a windowsill at the top of the southeast tower./Valentine: On a barrel on the front porch of a small house (located on the I in Valentine).

HOW TO GET: There are two ways you can get this card. One is located at Fort Wallace, a strictly out-of-bounds area patrolled by guards. You can visit this place and grab the card during the Chapter 6 mission “The King’s Son”.

Alternatively, you can go to Valentine and scoop up this card, which is located on a barrel on the front porch of a house, which is a much easier way to get the card.

GENERAL QUINCY HARRIS CARD (#9)

LOCATION: Heartlands Oil Fields, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: At the bottom of the oil well tower. The tower is located near the train tracks.

HOW TO GET: This card shouldn’t be too tricky to get. However, it’s located near Cornwall Kerosene and Tar, which has guards roaming around. If you linger around for too long, the guards will get suspicious and ask you to leave. If the guards get hostile, you can always return to this place after Chapter 6, as the whole place is completely deserted, allowing you to get the card without any hassle.

GENERAL CORNELIUS PALMER CARD (#10)

LOCATION: Hill Haven Ranch, Scarlett Meadows, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: In the fenced area where the cows are. Look for a shed, where there is a table with this card.

HOW TO GET: At this ranch, the farmers don’t like strangers, so they won’t want you setting foot on their land to find this card. There is an opportunity to visit this ranch though. There is a Chapter 3 mission where you can go rustling with Uncle. During the mission, you can look for the card, providing that you’re quick.

SENATOR THADDEUS WAXMAN CARD (#11)

LOCATION: Lonnie’s Shack, Scarlett Meadows, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: On the shelf around the back of the fireplace, in the bedroom.

HOW TO GET: This property is the hiding place of a group of outlaws. As you can imagine, they’re not just going to invite you in and let you take what you want.

There are two ways you can get the card. First, during Chapter 2, the place is abandoned, so you can just walk in and get the card without any problems. Secondly, in Chapter 3, you can join Sean MacGuire in a robbery mission, where they loot this very place, and you can also bag your card.

STARS OF THE STAGE

JESSE RAYMOND CARD (#3)

LOCATION: Tumbleweed, New Austin

WHERE TO FIND: In the ruined building near the saloon, sitting on a windowsill to the left of the fireplace.

HOW TO GET: Getting this card is easy, but getting to the place isn’t. You can’t access Tumbleweed until after Chapter 6.

AUGUSTA TREMLOW CARD (#4)

LOCATION: Hanging Dog Ranch, Big Valley, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: At the top of the windmill on the edge of the ranch.

HOW TO GET: Hanging Dog Ranch is a notorious gang hideout. Visit this place during the Chapter 6 mission “Mrs. Sadie Adler, Widow” to get the opportunity to grab this card and the other 3 on the property.

MABEL POTTER CARD (#5)

LOCATION: Théâtre Râleur, Saint Denis, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: In the corridor on the right side of the auditorium as you enter the building. It’s on a marble table.

HOW TO GET: This card isn’t too difficult to get. The problem is that if you try to get past the ticket seller to get to the corridor where the card is located, he won’t be happy. You can ignore him and go through anyway, or, if you want to stay on the safe side, you can pay to watch a show. Now you have access, you can grab the card. You get the opportunity to watch a show during the Chapter 4 mission “Fatherhood and Other Dreams”.

ROBIN KONINSKY CARD (#6)

LOCATION: Théâtre Râleur, Saint Denis, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: Climb up onto the stage, go to the back left, where there is a table. The card is on there.

HOW TO GET: This card is a little different to get than the other cards. It’s not that it’s guarded by hostile homeowners or guards or gang members. The fact is that this card doesn’t appear until you meet a certain requirement. In order for this card to appear, you must watch 5 shows at the Théâtre Râleur. This doesn’t mean 5 acts within the shows, but 5 complete shows. Also note that you cannot get this card until you complete the Chapter 4 mission “Fatherhood and Other Dreams” (where you get to take Mary Linton to the theatre). Each show lasts about 15 minutes in real time, each one with 3 acts. After watching a show, you must wait about a day before you can watch another show.

There are 3 normal shows, but there are 2 additional shows you can watch. By completing the Stranger mission strand “The Smell of the Grease Paint“, you can watch a unique performance with Miss Marjorie, Burtram, and Magnifico. There is also the show you watch with Mary in “Fatherhood and Other Dreams”. When you are asked to go on a date with Mary, make sure you say yes so you can go to the theatre and watch this performance. If you watch the show with Mary before watching the other shows, don’t worry, as you can still get the card.

At the end of the fifth show, wait for Aldridge T. Abbington to go behind the curtain and for the lights to come on. You should see the stage curtains draw back slightly (they usually remain shut after the end of the show). This is your invitation to jump up on stage. You won’t get into trouble for jumping up onto the stage, and no one will try and stop you, so don’t be shy. Head to the back left corner of the stage. You’ll see a table with a gaslamp. On this table is the cigarette card. Perhaps Aldridge T. Abbington left it there for you, or one of the performers, maybe even Robin Koninsky herself?

IRENE GRUBB CARD (#8)

LOCATION: MacFarlane’s Ranch, New Austin

WHERE TO FIND: At the train station, on a bench.

HOW TO GET: Like the rest of New Austin, you cannot get to this place until after Chapter 6.

NETTIE PALMER CARD (#9)

LOCATION: Valentine, The Heartlands, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: Inside the theatre show tent on the edge of town. It’s on the platform where the man with the projector is.

HOW TO GET: To get inside the tent, you have to pay for a ticket to see the show. They won’t let you enter for free. You get the chance to pick up the card after you are granted access.

VISTAS OF AMERICA

NEW YORK CARD (#1)

LOCATION: Caliga Hall, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: On the porch of one of the small shacks is a table with this card. On the map, it’s the second house from the left.

HOW TO GET: Caliga Hall is one of those places where they don’t like trespassers. Fortunately, during some of Chapter 3, you are a welcome visitor, so get this card while you can.

BLACKWATER CARD (#3)

LOCATION: Blackwater, West Elizabeth

WHERE TO FIND: There are two theatres in Blackwater, the Imperial Theatre and the Grand Theatre. It’s the Grand Theatre you want. Don’t get the two theatres mixed up. The Grand Theatre isn’t marked on the map. Once you find the Grand Theatre, go around the back. You should see a ladder. Climb up it to get onto the roof. Go up the next ladder. At the top, you’ll see a chimney. The card should be on there.

HOW TO GET: Fittingly, the Blackwater card is in Blackwater itself, but Blackwater is out of reach until after Chapter 6.

ARMADILLO CARD (#4)

LOCATION: Armadillo, Cholla Springs, New Austin

WHERE TO FIND: Next to the train station is a pig pen. In the pig pen, there is a barrel by the fence that runs alongside the station platform. The card is on there.

HOW TO GET: The Armadillo card can be found in Armadillo itself, but you cannot go to Armadillo until after Chapter 6.

THE GRIZZLIES CARD (#6)

LOCATION: Venter’s Place, Cholla Springs, New Austin

WHERE TO FIND: Go inside the little house. The card is situated on the table in the middle of the room. It might be hard to spot amongst the playing cards.

HOW TO GET: This is a ranch near Lake Don Julio in Cholla Springs, New Austin. First off, you can’t visit New Austin until Chapter 6. Secondly, once you arrive at this place, you’ll discover that tenants are already living here: gang members. If you want to get that card, you’ll have to fight to the death for it. There’s only 3 gang members to deal with, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to sort them out. Once they’re dealt with, run into the house and grab the card.

WORLD CHAMPIONS

H.T. SOLCUM CARD (#4)

LOCATION: Canebreak Manor, Lemoyne

WHERE TO FIND: Under the shack on a crate.

HOW TO GET: This is the second card located at Canebreak Manor, home of Black Belle. She isn’t hostile, but there is a Stranger mission in Chapter 2, “The Noblest of Men, and Women”, where you have to go to this place to speak to Black Belle. It means helping Black Belle out with a fierce shootout, but once she peacefully departs, you are free to explore and find this card.

R.S. HARRADON CARD (#5)

LOCATION: MacLean’s House, Roanoke Ridge, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: On a table by the left side of the house. The card is on the end, next to a pile of laundry.

LOCATION: Unfortunately, MacLean’s House is never unoccupied, and the owners don’t appreciate strangers (i.e. you) wandering anywhere near their property. Worse still, there are no missions or other opportunities to visit this place. All you can do is be as quick and stealthy as possible as you snatch the card up. I mean, all you want is the card, right? It’s not like anyone’s going to get hurt?

WILLIAM SLEICHER CARD (#8)

LOCATION: Cornwall Kerosene & Tar, The Heartlands, New Hanover

WHERE TO FIND: On the same table where the other cigarette card is found here.

HOW TO GET: This card is located right next to the Maud Engel card, on the table on the front porch of one of the houses. Don’t forget to grab both of them. This place is deserted after Chapter 6. Before then, any attempts at even entering are met with hostility.

That should cover all the “hard-to-get” cigarette cards in Red Dead Redemption 2 that you may be having trouble with. The rest of the cards should be much easier to get hold of, being in areas you can access from the beginning and collect up without any trouble. Hopefully this guide will help you complete your cigarette cards collection. Don’t forget to look out for any of the cards as you play through the story and the missions, as it’ll save you having to return to those places later.
