The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has a staggering, almost overwhelming, amount of stuff to do. Without a doubt, one of the best parts of this game compared to previous Zelda offerings is how many different armour sets and outfits Link can adorn himself with on his journey through Hyrule. Some provide him with more protection from the elements, letting you brave the toughest parts of the world without issue, while others boost his damage output and let you stand toe-to-toe with the strongest monsters in the game. Others still are more sentimental, serving as a way for players to connect with the past of the franchise with nostalgic outfits from previous games.
The Hero of Twilight outfit is a mirror image of the outfit worn by Link in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. In terms of tone, Twilight Princess is likely the game most similar to the way that Hyrule is in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, with the outfit’s darker tone and colour palette reflecting that fact. The Twilight Princess get-up is also one of Link’s best, taking his classic clothing into a more mature direction. Plenty of players will certainly want to wear this look… if they can brave the challenges required to earn it, of course.
Here’s where to find the Hero of Twilight set (also known as the outfit from Twilight Princess) in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom without using an amiibo.

Hero of Twilight Set
The Hero of Twilight outfit lets Link step back into the shoes of his Twilight Princess incarnation. This is one of many cosmetic sets in Tears of the Kingdom which lets Link wear the outfits of past Zelda heroes – such as the Hero of Time, Hero of the Wind and Hero of the Sky sets – and the Hero of Twilight armour is some of the best. With a more grounded take on the classic green tunic, the Hero of Twilight set pairs surprisingly well with many of the newer armour pieces introduced in TotK. If you want to return to those bygone days while keeping with a lot of the themes present in this version of Hyrule, the Twilight Princess outfit is one of your best bets.
Each piece in the Hero of Twilight set provides Link with 3 defence, totalling up to 9 with the whole outfit equipped. This makes it on par with most other early-to-mid-game sets, like the Hylian set, without any upgrades or enhancements. Speaking of, you can pump up these stats if you visit any of the four Great Fairy Fountains and pay up the associated material costs.
Now that we’ve admired the Hero of Twilight outfit in full, how can you get your hands on it in Tears of the Kingdom?
Set Location
If you’ve been diligent in exploring the lands of Hyrule, you may already have an idea of where some of these pieces are located. Several of the game’s Sky Archipelagos are hiding chests containing Old Maps. Finding these maps mark various locations in the Depths, often leading to rare armour or weapons. They serve to give adventurous souls a bit of guidance, pointing them in the right direction.
Don’t fret if you don’t have any Old Maps. You don’t have to find any maps to obtain the Hero of Twilight armour. In fact, you don’t need to find a single one. They’re just there as a guiding point.
All three pieces in the Hero of Twilight set are in the Depths of Tears of the Kingdom. They’re mostly located in the northeast but are fairly spread out. Out of all the nostalgic Hero sets in the game, these are easily the most difficult to find so get ready.
Cap of Twilight
The Cap of Twilight is not only the most difficult piece in the Hero of Twilight set to collect, but it is also one of the hardest armour pieces to get in all of Tears of the Kingdom. The chest containing this armour piece is in the north of Hyrule, underneath the Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower area of the map.
Luckily for you, the best place to enter the Depths is close to this destination. The Drenan Highlands Chasm is located right next to the Thyphlo Ruins, allowing you very easy access to the place where the chest is located. This area is the Gleeok Den and, with a glance inside, you should spot the chest right in the middle of the arena.

- Cap of Twilight Chest
The main issue with this is that, to open the chest, you need to defeat King Gleeok first. As the name suggests, this boss is the toughest version of the already terrifying Gleeok enemies. The King Gleeok has one head for each element, giving it access to fire, ice and lightning attacks. These all deal incredibly high damage and give it access to every possible Gleeok attack. What’s even worse is that, because you’re in the Depths, any damage you take will be unable to be healed unless you have Sunny food to strip the gloom from you.
Simply put, this fight isn’t easy. You’ll want to ensure that you’ve got a good crop of powerful weapons and plenty of resources. Come in with upgraded armour, tons of hearts and a bunch of Sunny food prepared. The best advice is to have a lot of monster eyes and try and get a Lynel Bow. Every eye-infused arrow you shoot with this bow will automatically track to one of the Gleeok heads, hitting it for critical damage with three arrows. Overall, though, having a lot of arrows (100+ at least) is going to serve you well in this fight.
Eventually, once you’ve slain the mighty King Gleeok, the chest will unlock. Then, you can claim the Cap of Twilight in Tears of the Kingdom.
Tunic of Twilight
Fortunately, the Tunic of Twilight is much easier to obtain (at least in comparison to the Cap). You’ll be doing a lot of running, or a lot of fighting, to get it, though, so prepare yourself. The Tunic of Twilight chest is underneath the shores of East Akkala Beach, specifically under the Rist Peninsula, the large swirl-shaped land mass on the north-east edge of Hyrule.
The best way to reach this area of the Depths is to take the East Akkala Plains Chasm straight down. Once you’ve landed, head east until the wall and follow it south. Soon, it will curl back up, following the path of the Rist Peninsula on the surface. This area has very low light and the Lightroot which will give you additional visibility isn’t available until the end.
This long spiral stretch of the Depths is the Rist Mine and it is teeming with monster groups. They’re all mining the readily available Zonite ore, which is abundant in this area. You can fight these enemies and take their plunder for yourself, or ignore them.
Reach the end of this path and you’ll be able to claim the Kimimeg Lightroot. The chest containing the Tunic of Twilight will also be here, netting you another Hero of Twilight piece in Tears of the Kingdom.

Trousers of Twilight
Finally, we have the Trousers of Twilight. These are in a much easier place to get to than either of the previous chests. You’ll find it in the Ancient Underground Fortress, an area underneath the South Akkala Plains.
To get here, simply take the South Akkala Plains Chasm entrance down to the Depths. Once you’re there, search around for the nearby Niuzimod Lightroot which will be overlooking the Ancient Underground Fortress. The chest is located in one of the broken buildings on the Fortress floor. However, you need to be careful as there are enemies all over this area, including a high-level Boss Bekoblin.
As such, the best thing to do is to paraglide down, grab your loot and then teleport out. Of course, if you’re looking for a scrap, you can fight and get yourself some nice monster parts. Either way, this will result in you getting the Trousers of Twilight chest. This is the final piece in the Hero of Twilight set in Tears of the Kingdom.
