Kilton is an NPC that is relevant to multiple side quests within The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The first of these is called The Hunt For Bubbul Gems, however, the main questline he is associated with are the Monstrous Collection side quests. He will ask you to take a picture of various monsters around Hyrule so that he can create models based on them. There are five Monstrous Collection side quests in total, and each one requires finding a more deadly enemy than the last.
These quests are the only way for players to obtain the Monster Bridle and Monster Saddle for your horse. Other rewards include Monster Extract, Sneaky Monster Soup, and a diamond. Starting the first Monstrous Collection side quest will also give you access to making replicas of any monster you photographed. You can even make a statue of Tears of the Kingdom’s final boss.
Here is how to complete all of Kilton’s Monstrous Collection side quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Prerequisite Side Quests
There are three side quests you must complete before you gain the ability to complete any of the Monstrous Collection. The Search for Koltin and Mattison’s Independence are both required to get Kilton to spawn in Tarrey Town. Camera Work in the Depths is also necessary since you’ll need the camera ability that is locked behind its completion. If you already finished all three of these side adventures, then you’re ready to accept the Monstrous Collection side quest from Kilton and Hudson in Tarrey Town.
The Search for Koltin
Thankfully, the Search for Koltin has a straightforward objective. Simply find Kilton and Koltin near Pico Pond. It is located near Woodland Stable between Hyrule Castle, Lost Woods, and Death Mountain. The is one of the most important stables in the game due to its connection to the Great Fairy Fountains. If you still need to unlock the Great Fairies, this guide can hep you.
At Pico Pond, the brothers will ask you to enter a cave to the north. Inside is a frog like enemy known as the Bubbul. Hitting it a few times will make it drop the Bubbul Gem. Take the gem back to the brothers to complete the quest. Kilton will disappear after this quest, but will show up in Tarrey Town once you complete Mattson’s Independence.
Mattison’s Indipendance
Mattison’s Independence takes place in Tarrey Town, the same place you’ll eventually gain access to the Monstrous Collection side quest at. Completing Mattison’s Independence will require helping Mattison reach the railcar and sneak past a guard. You can do so by placing wood in front of the guard’s field of view. Head towards the north side of town once you’ve completed both side quest to find Kilton the second time. You can accept his new quests immediately, but will need to unlock the camera before you can complete any of them.
Camera Work in the Depths
Camera Work in the Depths can be started by talking to Josha at Lookout Landing after scanning the nearby tower. You’ll be tasked with taking a picture of a statue near the Iayusus Lightroot in the depths. Travel to the Jioshin Shrine in Hyrule Field, and then jump down the nearby Hyrule Field Chasm. An NPC at the bottom the hole will point you in in the right direction.
Speak with Robbie near the Iayusus Lightroot, and then take a pic of the nearby statue. Once that’s done, return back to Josha to complete the depths quest side adventure. You’re ready to take on the Monstrous Collection questlines now that all three of these other quests have been completed. Remember to take as many monster pictures as you can to complete the Hyrule Compendium, and save the pics you’d like to turn into statues at Tarrey Town.
A Monstrous Collection I: How to Find Bokoblin
The very first Monstrous Collection side quest is the easiest to complete since your target is merely a Bokoblin. Bokoblins are the most common type of enemy in TotK, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding one. They are often in groups of three or more. Check around Hyrule Field and enemy camps. Regular, blue, black, and silver Bokoblins will all count for this mission, so there’s no need to worry about what tier of Bokoblin it is.
Monster Gallery Tips
- You simply need to take a picture of enemies for these side quests, and can avoid combat if you wish to.
- Make sure you don’t delete the picture from your main album since you can’t show Hyrule Compendium pictures to Kilton.
- Hudson will create a replica of the monster after you show the picture to Kilton. Move the replica into the Monster Gallery via the Ultra Hand ability.
- Replicas will be made of the exact pose a monster is it. Poses aren’t important in completing these quests, but it is something to keep in mind if you want more interesting replicas to be in Tarrey Town.
A Monstrous Collection II: How to Find Horriblin
Your second target is a Horriblin. These foes are less common than Bokoblins, but still quite easy to come across. They mainly spawn within caves on the surface. Elden Canyon cave systems are especially likely to have this type of enemy. If you already have it unlocked, fast traveling to Isisim Shrine near Yunobo HQ East Cave will be one of the fastest ways to find a few of them together. Another cave underneath the Eldin mines is also likely to have these enemies.
Otherwise, the closest Horriblins to Tarrey Town are inside the Akkala Citadel. It’s the big man-made structure on the mountain to the west of Tarrey Town. These Horriblins are likely to be the blue variation, but any kind of Horriblin will work for the quest. Complete this quest by giving Kilton the picture, and then place the replica on the gallery just like you did in the first Monstrous Collection quest.
Horriblin Tips
- Look upwards in caves since these foes like to crawl on the ceiling.
- Try crafting long weapons or bring many arrows to counter the large range that Horriblin weapons have.
- Strike the Horriblin’s face with an arrow to make it fall to the ground.
A Monstrous Collection III: How to Find Battle Talus Boss
Here’s where finding your target becomes a bit tricky since there’s only 15 Battle Talus in all of Hyrule, and they’re one of the few overworld bosses that have minions. Most of them are within central Hyrule, but a few have managed to find their way into other regions. These specific Talus variants will look like Bokoblin bases before they rise out of the ground. The easiest Battle Talus to reach is north of Teniten Shrine in Hyrule Field. All bosses respawn after a blood moon, so it should be there even if you killed it early on.
Battle Talus Tips
- You will need to get close to the Battle Talus for it to rise up.
- Be mindful of the small Bokoblin army on its back.
- If you wish to defeat the Talus, then try striking the ore on its back. This is its weak spot.
- Some Battle Talus have nearby treasure that unlocks after beating them.
- Double check to make sure the picture you took did indeed registered as a Battle Talus since there’s a chance the camera may have registered it as a Bokoblin pic.
A Monstrous Collection IV: How to Find Frox Boss
Kilton and Hudson now want you to find a boss from the depths. Frox are actually less rare than Battle Talus are, but they do not appear on the surface at all. There are roughly 40 large Frox in total in the depths. There are also a small variation, but they don’t count for this side quest. The easiest Frox to find is coincidentally very close to where Kilton is. Jumping down the pit just slightly north of the Tarrey Town settlement will take you directly to an Obsidian Frox. This chasm can be seen quite easily from the Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower. The picture of a Frox doesn’t have to be of this specific variation, but this one is merely the easiest to reach.
Frox Tips
- The boss will notice you if you get too close, so you’ll safer if you glide out of its sight.
- Try using the camera’s zoom in function. The Frox’s large size will make it easy to take a picture even from a field away.
- If you are spotted and can’t run away, try hitting the Frox’s eye with an arrow. This will stun it briefly, and offers you a great opportunity to take a picture of it.
A Monstrous Collection V: How to Find King Gleeok Boss
King Gleeoks are the rarest type of overworld boss in TotK. In fact, they’re even rarer than the main story dungeon bosses. There are only four in the entire game, and each one is hidden away very well. Three of them are in the Sky Islands, and one of them is in the depths. The easiest one to reach is to the north of the Great Hyrule Forest Depths section of the map. This gloom-covered King Gleeok has a nest within a corridor marked by a green dot on the map below.
The other three Gleeoks are extremely hard to come across due to being on some of the hardest Sky Islands to reach. The two floating islands closest to the left side of the map each have one. The southern one is above the Gerudo desert, while the other is vaguely near Rito village. The freezing temperatures created by the Wind Temple boss will make the latter even harder to reach if you didn’t complete that dungeon yet. The final King Gleeok is on the floating island above Eventide Island in the bottom right corner of the map. Skyview Towers are the easiest way for players to get into the air, but you’ll also need quite a few Zonai Devices to help you get all the way to these islands. Check out this guide to help you activate all Skyview Towers. The quest is over once you create the King Gleeok sculpture.
King Gleeok Tips
- This species of Gleeok are capable of breathing fire, ice, and lightning beams simultaneously.
- Gleeoks like to fly high in the air, so players should bring multiple Zonai fans. These devices can help raise Link into the air.
- Striking all three of the King Gleeok’s faces will make it fall to the ground.
- The King Gleeok in the depths is safeguarding part of the Hero of Twilight armor set. This guide can help you find the other pieces.
- Due to how hard it is to reach most of the locations where this boss spawns, it would be wise to place one of the Travel Medallion near them incase you want to rematch them later.
