Nero Combat Overview
To start the guide, let’s take a look at Nero’s Nikke Skills. As a Defender Nikke, she focuses on protecting her teammates on the battlefield. For starters, her Skill 1, Cat’s Repayment, provides reduced damage taken by 14.14% for 5 seconds. This skill activates when recovery takes effect on both Nero and the one who applied the recovery effect.
Meanwhile, her Skill 2, Lil’ Paw, has three different functions with unique effects. For instance, she has a 30% chance to attach more Damage Taken by 8.26% for 5 seconds to a target that attacks her, as well as getting additional Max HP by 60.28% continuously after entering a battle.
And lastly, her Burst Skill, Grumpy Cat, will allow Nero to taunt all enemies for 15 seconds, providing coverage for other allies and dealing up to 1104.91% of final ATK as damage to the enemy with the highest HP.
Overall Nero focuses on providing coverage and taunts all enemies to give other Nikkes a chance to deal focused damage without any worry for 15 seconds. Moreover, Nero can protect herself and an ally to give them more durability throughout the battle. However, she does need specific requirements before she can gain those effects, so her Skills require a bit of luck and time before her usage is optimal.
Skills Priority
Now that you know Nero’s Skills, it’s time to move on to her Skills Priority. As she is a Defender/Taunter, here is the hierarchy of what you should upgrade first (in descending order):
- Cat’s Repayment: Nero’s Skill 1 is the best Skill she has since she can do many things at once with the Skill, such as reducing Damage Taken for the ally who heals Nero, as well as Nero herself once that healing effect takes place on her.
- Grumpy Cat: The next Skill to prioritize is her Burst Skill, Grumpy Cat. This Skill allows Nero to taunt her enemies during the Full Burst duration for 15 seconds. Moreover, she can deal massive damage to an enemy with the highest HP, making her Burst Skill quite potent.
- Lil’ Paw: Lastly, Skill 2 has the lowest priority among the three due to its luck-based conditions to trigger, as she only has a 30% chance of activating this Skill when she is attacked or when she is in her Burst Skill condition.
Best Equipment Substats
Since Nero is a Defender-Class Nikke, she can only use the corresponding equipment designated for that Class. It is not necessary to put your Manufacturer’s Equipment on her as she’s not that demanding in terms of stats. Even Level 0 equipments are enough to make her a potent character on your team.
However, if you do have excess equipment and wish to place them on Nero, I recommend you to look out for Increase Element Damage Dealt and Increase ATK sub-stats if you wish to upgrade her equipment to Overload Tier to add some firepower to her kit.
Nero’s Potential Team Composition
As for her potential teammates, Nero is a Nikke that can fit into several team lineups since she’s a taunter. Her Skills also don’t have any limitations to certain elements like Water or Fire, making her a reliable and flexible Burst 2 Nikke.
Her potential teammates are Liter, Modernia, Helm, and Drake.
Due to her nature as a Burst 2 Nikke and her 20 seconds Burst Skill cooldown, others such as Centi, Blanc (when paired with Noir), and Dolla will not be included in this team to prevent the Burst Skill clash.
Nero will act as the team’s main Defender by utilizing her taunting and Reduced Damage Taken abilities. Meanwhile, Liter will act as the Burst 1 Nikke for the team, since she can buff all allies’ ATK and replenish their Cover’s HP. Lastly, Modernia, Noir, and Helm act as the main damage dealers for the team by using their respective Burst Skills, with Drake only helping by using her Skill 1 and 2.
Best Stages to Use Nero
Now that we’ve gone through her Skills and her Team potential, it’s time to talk about her usability in the Boss stages. In Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, the hardest challenge that players must face are the Special Interception Bosses. As stated before, Nero is a solid unit but needs intricate requirements before her Skills can be useful.
And so, to close off this Nero Nikke guide, we will provide a table that includes her usability against all Interception Bosses + Nihilister, Chapter 20’s Stage Boss, to provide insight about what Bosses she’s strong against and which are the ones you should avoid using her against.
Usability Table
| Interception/Stage Bosses |
Usability Rank ( E – S) |
Explanations |
|---|---|---|
| Nihilister | C |
Nihilister is a Boss that requires top DPS units combined with healers and buffers to support them, and although Nero can be useful here thanks to her Taunt ability, she lacks the qualities needed to clear the Nihilister Boss stage. |
| Modernia | B | Facing Modernia requires strong DPS and buffs to clear her Interception. While Nero does not have those qualities, she can protect the team from Modernia’s barrage with her Taunt and Reduced Damage Taken abilities, so you can consider putting her in your lineup against Modernia. |
| Chatterbox | A |
Chatterbox is the easiest Interception Boss, as he is less demanding compared to other Bosses. Nero is a good Defender Nikke to have here since she can taunt Chatterbox’s attacks and deal massive damage to him at once. Recommended Lineup: Liter, Flex Burst 3 Nikke, Modernia, Laplace, and Nero. |
| Blacksmith | B |
Blacksmith is another Interception Boss that is suitable for Nero due to Blacksmith’s aerial bombardment that targets all on-field Nikkes, in which Nero can use her Taunt and Cat’s Repayment to negate the bombardment. Recommended Lineup: Dorothy/Liter, Centi/Blanc, Modernia, Noir, and Nero. |
| Grave Digger | D | To successfully complete Grave Digger Interception, you must gather a specific lineup consisting of Shotgun-based Nikkes, so Nero is not a top priority to fill the Defender role in that lineup. |
| Alteisen | B |
Alteisen’s quick missile and turret barrages must be countered by specific Nikkes such as Noise or Ludmilla. Thankfully, Nero also has the same quality as those two Nikkes as she can taunt Alteisen’s Turrets for 15 seconds and deal massive damage to the train’s armaments. Recommended Lineup: Liter, Nero, Modernia, Scarlet, and Noir. |
And that’s the character guide for Nero for Goddess of Victory: NIKKE.
