Most players breeze past the Kilnden Workshop in Crimson Desert without realizing that it unlocks some of the strongest weapons and armor in the entire game. From spears that trigger explosions on every single swing to a helmet that shoots laser beams from your eyes, the Kuku system is a hidden layer of power that most players miss entirely.
This guide covers the best Kuku weapon, armor piece, and secret accessory, including where to find the base items, how to unlock the blueprints, and exactly which materials you need to craft each one at Grimnir’s shop.
1. The Kilnden Workshop and the Kuku System
The Kilnden Workshop is the hub for all Kuku crafting in Crimson Desert, and understanding how it works saves a lot of backtracking later.
Everything flows through a single dwarf named Grimnir, who operates the Kuku Shop inside the workshop. His recipes cover indestructible elemental spears, reinforced armor, powerful boots, and even armor for your dragon.
How to Unlock the Kilnden Workshop
The Kilnden Workshop becomes available during Chapter 4, as part of the main quest called Mysterious Pot. The workshop sits due west of Hernand, and you will unlock the Kuku Iron Pot here after repairing Grimnir’s furnace and three broken kilns.
The Kuku Iron Pot is a storage container for Abyss-type objects, with 230 slots for power cores, machine parts, and crafting components. It cannot hold regular items like food, weapons, or armor.
To store large objects, such as Electrical Components, use your Axiom Force on the item, then press Seal to place it into the pot. You will need this mechanic constantly throughout this guide.
More Kuku blueprints unlock as you progress the Witch questline, starting in Chapter 5. Each Sanctum you cleanse rewards you with new recipes for Grimnir’s shop.
How the Sanctum Crystal Dial Puzzle Works
Every Sanctum contains a hidden crystal dial puzzle at the end that most players skip. Solving it rewards a named Core item required for crafting several pieces of Kuku gear. The puzzle is not complicated once you know the method.
- Face the blue crystal at the front of the Sanctum and use Blinding Flash (L1 + R1 + L1) to direct light into it.
- A ring of smaller crystals will begin rotating around the center. Tap L1 each time the dial is about to reach a blue crystal.
- Release L1 before the dial hits any gap between crystals. Timing early is safer than timing late.
- Complete a full rotation without breaking the sequence to activate the mechanism and claim the named Core reward.
Each Core is named after its Sanctum (for example, the Core of Exaltation comes from the Sanctum of Exaltation), which makes it easy to track which ones you still need.
2. Kuku Spears
The three Kuku spears are the most powerful weapons Grimnir can craft, and each one brings a different elemental edge. Unlike standard weapons, all Kuku spears have no durability, meaning they never break, and they can be refined to max level through the regular blacksmith system.
Kuku versions of base weapons do not count toward the Special Equipment Mastery Challenges. If you need challenge credit for the Flame Spear, Lightning Spear, or Bismuth Spear, use the breakable original before reinforcing it.
Kuku Flame Spear
The Kuku Flame Spear is widely considered the strongest all-around spear in the game. Every single hit, including light attacks, heavy attacks, and spinning slashes, triggers a fire explosion that hits all enemies within a wide radius around you.
With up to 10 explosion-producing attacks built into the weapon, the area damage output is exceptional. The only downside is the absence of Abyss Gear slots.
How to Get the Flame Spear Blueprint
Cleanse the Sanctum of Exaltation, located in the north of Pailune. The blueprint (Blueprint II: Kuku Flame Spear) is your reward from Bari, the Witch of Kindness. The Sanctum of Exaltation is one of her four Pailune sanctums.
Where to Find the Base Flame Spear
- Travel to Ashclaw Keep in Pailune. The location opens fully during Chapter 7 as part of the Battle for Silverwolf Mountain story arc.
- Enter the main courtyard, then follow the minimap’s white dot indicator to find the weapon rack.
- Pick up the Flame Spear and bring it directly to Grimnir. Do not use it under any circumstances before crafting.
- Ashclaw Keep’s location
- Flame Spear in courtyard
All Crafting Materials
- 1x Kuku Spear (crafted at Grimnir’s shop via the Sanctum of Absolution blueprint)
- 1x Flame Spear (Ashclaw Keep)
- 10x Small Batteries
- 50x Lubricant
Where to Farm Robot Materials
Head to Delesyia, specifically the road from the Abyss Core Impact Site, for the larger robots that drop Electrical Components. For Small Batteries and Lubricant, the area near Marni’s Outpost, further north, has easier bipedal enemies that drop these regularly.
Use Axiom Force to seal any Electrical Components into your Kuku Pot, as they are too large to carry normally.
Kuku Lightning Spear
The Kuku Lightning Spear deals lightning damage on every hit through a charge system. It holds up to 10 charges and regenerates one charge every 2 seconds. Each charged hit applies a lightning effect that stuns enemies and creates buildup, making it especially effective against robotic enemy types throughout Delesyia.
It delivers slightly less raw AoE than the Flame Spear in open-world combat, but the paralysis gives a real edge in crowd control situations.
How to Unlock the Lightning Spear Blueprint
- Cleanse the Sanctum of Absolution in southern Hernand to unlock the base Kuku Spear recipe.
- Cleanse the Sanctum of Temperance in Hernand to unlock the Kuku Lightning Spear variant specifically.
Where to Find the Base Lightning Spear
- Travel to the Black Wall Bandit Camp in northern Pailune, just north of the “E” in Pailune on the map.
- Find the Lightning Spear on the weapon rack near the main tent.
- If the camp is too dangerous, wait for nightfall when most bandits sleep and sneak in without a fight.
- Pick it up and bring it to Grimnir. Do not use it before crafting.
Alternatively, members of the Dusksong faction sometimes carry Lightning Spears. Block one of their attacks with a shield, then press Heavy Attack to perform a Shield Bash and disarm them, recovering the spear without visiting the camp.
- Black Wall Bandit Camp’s location
- Lightning Spear
All Crafting Materials
- 1x Kuku Spear
- 1x Lightning Spear (Black Wall Bandit Camp or Dusksong disarm)
- 10x Small Batteries (small bipedal runner robots in southeastern Delesyia)
- 2x Electrical Components (large bipedal Sentinel robots in the same region)
Kuku Bismuth Spear
The Kuku Bismuth Spear excels in boss fights and is widely considered the strongest single-target option in the early-to-mid game. Each swing stacks a bismuth debuff that simultaneously slows the target’s movement and increases the damage they take.
The weapon holds up to 10 stacks, with each stack on a two-second cooldown.
It also outperforms the Kuku Lightning Spear against robotic enemies, since the bismuth buildup’s damage bonus compensates for the lack of a lightning weakness exploit while still slowing the machines significantly.
How to Unlock the Bismuth Spear Blueprint
Cleanse the Sanctum of Solace, one of Bari’s Pailune sanctums in the Witch of Kindness questline. The blueprint is your reward from Bari, the Witch of Kindness, upon completion.
Where to Find the Base Bismuth Spear
- Head to the Well of Enlightenment in the Forebearer’s Barrens, west of Tashkalp near the Pailune borders.
- Descend into the sunken ruins of the roofless building at this location. Clear nearby enemies first.
- Retrieve the Bismuth Spear from the stand inside and leave without equipping it.
All Crafting Materials
- 1x Kuku Spear
- 1x Bismuth Spear (Well of Enlightenment)
- 10x Small Batteries (bipedal mech enemies in southern Delesyia)
- 4x Bismuth Ore (plentiful near the Well of Enlightenment; look for the glowing rainbow box-like formations in the area)
Bismuth Ore nodes glow with a rainbow sheen and will damage you if you stand too close without resistance. Bringing a fire- or ice-resistance potion before farming this area is recommended.
3. Other Unique Weapons and Accessories
Beyond the Kuku spear trio, Crimson Desert hides a few more powerful weapons and accessories that most players miss entirely. These do not go through the Kuku crafting system, but they carry unique elemental properties worth knowing about.
Electro-Mecha Longsword
The Electro-Mecha Longsword is a mid-tier electric weapon found in Delesyia. Head to Marni’s Outpost in northern Delesyia and defeat the two-phase boss encounter, the Machina Knight, there. The Longsword is your reward.
The Longsword deals lightning damage, but only three of its attacks apply the electric effect per combo, compared to all ten hits on the Kuku Lightning Spear. It also cannot be refined and has no Abyss Gear infusion, so its ceiling is lower.
However, it does not break, which makes it a useful backup or early Delesyia option before you finish the Lightning Spear crafting chain.
Ring of Lightning
The Ring of Lightning is a special accessory that stores the power of storms and unleashes a devastating area lightning burst when activated. The catch is that it requires two minutes of standing in the rain to charge before it can be used.
Once charged, activate it with L2 + R2 to release the bolt, which deals enormous damage to all nearby enemies.
How to Find the Ring of Lightning
- Travel to Whisperleaf Fortress, west of Silver Wolf Mountain in Pailune.
- Inside the fortress, head to the southwest corner and find the standalone stone stele behind one of the towers.
- Use Force Palm on the stele to flip it and reveal the hidden underground hatch.
- Drop down and solve the 3×3 button strongbox puzzle in this exact sequence: top-left, bottom-left, top-right.
- The strongbox opens, and the Ring of Lightning is yours.
The ring pairs powerfully with the Rainstorm Necklace, which summons rain on demand. Since charging takes roughly 2 minutes and the Rainstorm Necklace produces rain for approximately 5 minutes, you can charge and fire the ring twice within a single activation window.
Outside of that combo, the ring works best in areas where natural rain occurs frequently, or against staggered bosses where the burst damage is most effective.
4. Kuku Elemental Armor Sets
Grimnir crafts three reinforced armor sets, each taking a unique base piece and transforming it into endgame-viable protection.
All three sets provide Level 10 elemental resistance and a passive absorption ability that stores incoming damage of that element until it auto-releases as a powerful burst. None of the Kuku armor sets accept Abyss Gear slots, but all are fully refinable.
Each set requires its own named Power Core, which drops from Stone Worm enemies that guard Abyss Nexus fast travel points. The drops are RNG-based, so hard save before each Stone Worm fight and reload if the Core you need does not appear.
Kuku Cold-Resistant Armor
The Kuku Cold-Resistant Armor provides Ice Resistance Level 10 and a Movement Speed passive that scales with Refinement. It absorbs cold damage until the charge threshold is reached, then unleashes a cold burst in the area around you.
The set starts at a high tier and can be fully pushed through Grimnir’s refinement system.
How to Unlock the Blueprint
- Sanctum of Devotion’s location
- Blueprint reward
Cleanse the Sanctum of Devotion, located in the Dewhaven area on the Delesyia side of the map. The blueprint (Blueprint II: Kuku Ice-Resistant Armor) is your reward from Lyselia, the Witch of Humility.
Where to Find the Base Armor
Travel to Mistshard Cave in the far north of Demeniss, in the Smoking Lands area. The Frostcursed Plate Armor is inside, hidden behind a waterfall. Use the Stab skill (R1 + Triangle) to pass through the waterfall and reach it.
All Crafting Materials
- 1x Frostcursed Plate Armor (Mistshard Cave, north Demeniss)
- 1x Power Core (named, RNG drop from Stone Worm enemies)
- 1x Core of Exaltation (Sanctum of Exaltation crystal dial puzzle)
Power Core Farming Spots
Stone Worm and Rock Serpent enemies guard Abyss Nexus points across the map and drop named Power Cores on a random basis. Hard save before each attempt. Reliable locations include:
- Frostveiled Castle Ruins in Pailune
- Silver Wolf Mountain Abandoned Mine
- A cave in the Demeniss area with multiple spawns per visit
Kuku Flame-Resistant Armor
The Kuku Flame-Resistant Armor provides Fire Resistance Level 10 plus a Critical Rate passive that reaches Level 3 at maximum Refinement. It absorbs fire damage and releases a fire explosion burst once fully charged.
At max Refinement, the Critical Rate bonus and 38 base Defense make this one of the strongest chest pieces for aggressive builds.
How to Unlock the Blueprint
Complete the Sanctum of Absolution, an Elowen sanctum in southern Hernand, to earn the Core of Absolution. The blueprint for this armor comes from the same Sanctum chain tied to Elowen, the Witch of Wisdom.
Where to Find the Base Armor
The Scorchflame Plate Armor is located near the Golden Trading Post in the north of Demeniss. Find the rotating wooden door near the midway section of the post, enter it, and retrieve the armor from the chest inside.
- Golden Trading Post’s location
- Hidden wooden door
All Crafting Materials
- 1x Scorchflame Plate Armor (Golden Trading Post, north Demeniss)
- 1x Enhanced Kuku Pot (crafted at Grimnir: 1x Kuku Pot + 1x Abyss Cell; blueprint from Sanctum of Absolution)
- 1x Core of Absolution (Sanctum of Absolution crystal dial puzzle)
- 1x Power Core (Stone Worm enemies at Abyss Nexus points)
Kuku Lightning-Resistant Armor
The Kuku Lightning-Resistant Armor is the most demanding elemental set, requiring you to defeat one of Pywel’s most formidable world bosses.
It provides Lightning Resistance Level 10, making you near-immune to stun in Delesyia’s robotic encounters, plus an Attack Speed passive starting at Level 2 and scaling to Level 3 at maximum Refinement.
Once the armor’s charge gauge fills, it glows for 10 seconds; every incoming hit during that window triggers a powerful electric burst counterattack against all nearby enemies.
How to Unlock the Blueprint
- Meet the Witch of Strength, Areciel, through the Witch questline.
- Travel to the Sanctum of Expiation, located north of the “D” in Demeniss on the map.
- Cleanse the Sanctum and claim the Kuku Lightning-Resistant Armor Blueprint from Areciel in the cutscene.
Where to Find the Base Armor
The Lightning Bolt Plate Armor drops from Titan, a world boss at Windsong Peaks in Pailune. To unlock the Titan fight, progress through the Stjar Clan faction quests in Pailune and complete “The Clue for Chaos” and “Ancient Barrier”, leading to the Fallen God quest.
The fight has two phases plus a Gigantified form. Bring Palmar Pills, plenty of healing food, and use Turning Slash (R1 + R2) for its invincibility frames against Titan’s lightning strikes.
All Crafting Materials
- 1x Lightning Bolt Plate Armor (Titan boss drop, Windsong Peaks, Pailune)
- 1x Enhanced Kuku Pot (crafted at Grimnir: 1x Kuku Pot + 1x Abyss Cell)
- 1x Core of Penitence (Sanctum of Penitence crystal dial puzzle, southeast of Hernand above the Steel Mountains)
- 1x Power Core (Stone Worm enemies at Abyss Nexus points; RNG drop)
5. Kuku Marni Laser Helm
The Marni Laser Helm is one of the most distinctive pieces of gear in the game, letting you lock onto up to four or five enemies and fire explosive laser beams from your eyes.
The base version fires one laser shot per activation; the Kuku upgrade bumps that to three shots per cooldown cycle, adds refinable Defense, and starts the helm at Rank 3. It is one of the few pieces of equipment that doubles as a meaningful offensive tool.
How to Find the Base Marni Laser Helm
- Travel to Marni’s Masterium, a large fortress in the southeastern corner of Delesyia, south of Mount Benus along the coast. No quest unlock is required.
- Enter the main gate. Find the small workshop room to the left of the main path via an arched opening, or drop through the building’s missing roof to bypass the courtyard.
- Pick the helm off the table inside. If the interaction prompt does not appear, nearby enemies are still alert, so either clear the area or wait for them to lose interest first.
To fire the helm, equip it and press L2 + R2. Each activation has a ten-second cooldown. The Kuku version raises that to three charges per cooldown cycle.
How to Craft the Kuku Marni Laser Helm
Unlock Elowen, the Witch of Wisdom, and cleanse the Sanctum of Benediction, located in the western snowy mountains of Hernand, directly below the “E” in Hernand on the map. The blueprint is your reward from Elowen once the Sanctum is cleansed.
All Crafting Materials
- 1x Marni Laser Helm (Marni’s Masterium)
- 1x Enhanced Kuku Pot (crafted from 1x Kuku Pot + 1x Abyss Cell)
- 3x Electrical Components (large bipedal Sentinel robots in eastern Delesyia’s Blue Thicket)
- 1x Core of Transgression (Sanctum of Oblation crystal dial puzzle, eastern Delesyia)
- 1x Power Core (Stone Worm enemies at Abyss Nexus points)
How to Get the Core of Transgression
- Unlock Lyselia, the Witch of Humility, through the main Witch questline.
- Travel to and cleanse the Sanctum of Oblation in eastern Delesyia.
- Face the Sanctum and use Blinding Flash (L1 + R1 + L1) on the center blue crystal to start the dial rotation.
- Tap L1 each time the dial approaches a blue crystal and complete one full rotation to receive the Core.
6. Kuku Breeze-Step Boots
The Kuku Breeze-Step Boots dramatically enhance your vertical mobility by nearly tripling the height of your double jump. They hold five charges and regenerate one charge every ten seconds.
Each activation consumes a small amount of Spirit, but the payoff for exploration and platforming is significant, particularly in late-game Abyss areas.
How to Unlock the Blueprint
Cleanse the Sanctum of Oblation in eastern Delesyia. The Blueprint II: Kuku Breeze-Step Boots is among your rewards.
All Crafting Materials
- 1x base boots (the Rishi-variant boots; check the Sanctum of Oblation reward details for the specific base boot name required)
- 1x Enhanced Kuku Pot
- Electrical Components (large Sentinel robots in Delesyia)
- 1x Core of Faith (Sanctum of Faith crystal dial puzzle)
Where to Get the Core of Faith
The Sanctum of Faith sits on the southern coast of Delesyia, northeast of the Aeronautical Research Base near the Grey Forest. Cleanse it using the same dial puzzle method and collect the Core of Faith as the reward.
7. Abyssal Fusion Dragon Armor
The Abyssal Fusion is the final reward in the entire Kuku crafting chain: a cosmetic mech armor for your Blackstar Dragon that activates during the Wings of Iron faction quest, unlocked after Chapter 11.
The armor gives Blackstar a dramatic visual overhaul but does not alter his speed, cooldown, or combat abilities. Think of it as the definitive endgame flex once the rest of Crimson Desert‘s systems have been mastered.
How to Craft the Small Kuku A.T.A.G.
Before crafting the Abyssal Fusion, you must first build the Small Kuku A.T.A.G., a miniaturized mech device that gets consumed in the process. Use an empty Kuku Pot for this craft, as the pot itself is used up.
How to Unlock the Blueprint
- Travel to Zargan Tankworks in northwest Delesyia (Gorthak Territory), the same area as the Chapter 10 main quests, after accepting the New Designs quest.
- Speak to the NPC Marek and collect the blueprints he provides as part of the New Designs interaction.
- Read the blueprint to learn the Small Kuku A.T.A.G. recipe permanently.
Small Kuku A.T.A.G. Materials
- 1x Kuku Iron Pot (empty)
- 1x Abyss Cell
- 5x Cogwheels
- 5x Small Batteries
How to Craft the Abyssal Fusion
With the Small Kuku A.T.A.G. in hand, return to Grimnir at the Kilnden Workshop. All four materials below are required:
- 1x Small Kuku A.T.A.G.
- 1x Power Core — Ore of Resipiscence (dropped by Abyss stone creatures resembling rock golems or stone crabs across Pywel, usually guarding Abyss Nexus points)
- 1x Golden Star’s Component (automatic reward from the Golden Star boss fight at the end of Chapter 11)
- 1x Aeserion’s Scale (from the Serpent Shrine in the southwest corner of Delesyia; the scales are scattered throughout the serpent boss area and can be picked up without defeating the boss)
How to Activate the Armor
- Craft the Abyssal Fusion at Grimnir’s Kuku Shop.
- Open your journal and track the Wings of Iron quest. Follow it to the Nest of Valor in the Abyss, the floating arena north of Dry Valley.
- Walk to the center of the arena to trigger the cutscene where Blackstar receives the mech armor. This marks the completion of the entire Kuku crafting system.
