The Rare Owl is one of the harder bird pets to add to your collection in Crimson Desert, mostly because it depends more on the right region, timing, and perch setup than the easier common birds. Once you unlock the Sotdae of Bond, getting the owl becomes a matter of using the perch system correctly and using it in the correct location.
1. Best Locations to Find Rare Owl
The Rare Owl is tied to the Delesyia region, and the best current owl routes focus on a small group of more reliable spots inside that region. Unlike birds that show up around rivers or ordinary low ground, owls are much more consistent when you treat them as a night-only bird that prefers cliff edges, forest borders, and higher terrain.
1.1. Scholastone Institute
Scholastone Institute is in Hernand, in the southern part of the region. For owl hunting, the better setup is not the middle of the institute itself but the raised ground and cliff edges just south of Scholastone, where the terrain is quieter and more open for spotting birds at night.
1.2. Pororin
Pororin is in Hernand as well. It sits south of Hernand, past the main travel route into the Pororin forest area, and works as one of the cleaner owl locations because it combines the right region with elevated terrain and quieter edges away from the main village path.
1.3. Three-Brothers Cliff
Three-Brothers ’ Cliff is in Delesyia. This is one of the clearer owl locations because the area already has the kind of high cliff terrain and open overlooks that fit owl spawns much better than lowland river spots.
1.4. Longbranch Shade Hideout
Longbranch Shade Hideout is in Pailune, specifically in the northern part of the region. It works better as an owl spot when you use the outer elevated edges and quieter approaches near the hideout instead of the more active central route.
1.5. Spire of Insight
Spire of Insight is in Demeniss, in the Steel Mountains subregion. It is located south of Pororin Village and southeast of Glenbright Manor, and it is one of the strongest owl locations because the surrounding terrain already gives you the kind of raised platforms and higher approaches that fit owl spawns well.
2. Best Food for the Rare Owl
The Rare Owl is one of the bird pets that responds better to a more targeted bait setup instead of a generic mixed feeder. The broader bird-pet system lets you use different food types in the Sotdae of Bond, but meat-based bait is the best option, which fits the owl’s behavior much better than treating it like a seed- or fruit-focused bird.
- Tough Meat — best first choice for dedicated owl attempts.
- Lean Meat — strong backup if you do not have tough meat available.
- Fine Meat — harder to get but better than switching to fruit, seeds, or plant-heavy feed when you are specifically targeting the Rare Owl.
3. Best Time to Catch the Rare Owl
The Rare Owl is most reliable at night, with the strongest window being 4:00 a.m and sometimes before or after this time. That is the best time to place the Sotdae of Bond, load it with bait, and wait for owl visits. If you need to force the right time of day, use the game’s pass time system before setting the perch:
- Go to a bed, campfire, or cooking pot.
- Interact and choose to rest for 3 hours, 6 hours, or 12 hours.
- If you are using a campfire or cooking pot, aim at it first to make the WAIT prompt appear.
- Set the time forward until you get closer to 4:00 a.m. owl window.
- Then travel to your owl perch spot, place the Sotdae of Bond, load the feeder, and wait there through the night window.
4. How to Get the Rare Owl Pet
The Rare Owl is one of the more specialized bird pets to tame because it depends much more on time of day, bait choice, and where you place the Sotdae of Bond than the easier common birds.
- Unlock the Sotdae of Bond first. Bird taming does not start until you have the perch item in your inventory.
- Travel to one of the stronger owl spots, especially in Delesyia and the higher terrain around the owl locations you are using. Owl attempts work better in elevated, quieter areas than in low river zones.
- Go there at night, ideally during the owl window of 4:00 a.m.
- Place the perch on a high, quiet, elevated spot such as a cliff edge, raised path, or quiet overlook rather than open flat ground.
- Load the feeder with meat-based food, with tough meat as the safest first choice for owl attempts.
- Wait for the owl to land and feed repeatedly instead of moving the perch after one short attempt. Bird pets build trust through repeated feeding visits.
- Keep the feeder stocked until the owl reaches 100 Trust.
- Use Take In once Trust is maxed to make the owl your pet.
