Stardew Valley Dating Guide: Sebastian

It's very hard to resist a man of mystery, but it's even harder trying to get him to fall in love with you. In this Stardew Valley dating guide, we will go over how to capture the heart of Sebastian, the loner boy of Pelican Town.

Stardew Valley Dating Guide: Sebastian

In the game Stardew Valley, the primary objective is to restore your grandfather’s farm by harvesting crops, raising animals and expanding the farm’s faculties to make money. There are other side quests as well, such as exploring the mines or restoring the Community Center, but building relationships with the townspeople is typically what gets players attached to the game.

Developing connections with the locals is beneficial for the overall gameplay because it helps you advance in the game and unlocks new stories to follow. Out of all the locals, only 12 of them are potential marriage candidates. Just like in real-life, these characters have their own personalized back story complete with aspirations and personal struggles. Giving gifts and conversing with them is the best way to strengthen your relationship and increase your heart rating. Reaching a certain heart rating with a character will unlock “heart events” that give you more information about them.

All the locals have their own schedule they follow on a day-to-day basis. Understanding a character’s schedule and their list of likes and dislikes will be key to furthering your relationship with them. In this Stardew Valley dating guide, we will go over everything you need to know about dating Sebastian

Sebastian in particular has a very complicated schedule. He’s known as a loner, so he spends a lot of time in his bedroom, which makes it difficult to interact with him. He is Robin’s son and lives in her basement located in The Mountains. Maru is his half-sister, and like a typical eldest child, he feels like his little sister gets all the attention. Because of this, Sebastian tends to get deeply absorbed in his work or his video games, so he mostly just hangs out in his room. On the Stardew Valley Developer Blog, it states Sebastian can be unfriendly to people he doesn’t know, but a charming new farmer might cultivate the “wasteland of his heart.”

Stardew Valley Dating Guide: Sebastian’s Likes and Dislikes

Just like real-life people, every character in the game has their own opinions and their own list of things they like and dislike. You can give almost any item in the game to a character, but that doesn’t guarantee they will like it. There are five categories an item can fall under: love, like, neutral, dislike and hate. Gifting an item that a character loves will earn you more points towards your heart rating, but gifting an item that a character hates will subtract points.

Loves

Sebastian loves all the items listed under “Universal Loves,” but more personalized items that he loves are frozen tear, obsidian, pumpkin soup, sashimi and void egg. When one of these items is given to Sebastian, he will say “I really love this. How did you know?”

Likes

Sebastian likes the majority of items listed under “Universal Likes,” with the exception of disliking flowers and hating a complete breakfast, farmer’s lunch and omelet. More personalized items that Sebastian likes are coffee, green tea, oil, poppy, flounder and quartz. When one of these items is given to Sebastian, he will say “Thanks, I like this.”

Neutral

Sebastian feels neutral towards all the items under “Universal Neutrals,” all fruit (with the exception of disliking fruit tree fruit and salmonberry), all fish (with the exception of disliking carp and snails, and liking flounder) and all milk. When one of these items is given to Sebastian, he will say “… thanks.”

Dislike

Sebastian dislikes all the items listed under “Universal Dislikes,” with the exception of hating clay, feeling neutral about fish and loving obsidian and void egg. He also dislikes all flowers with the exception of liking Poppy. More personalized items that Sebastian dislikes are chanterelle, common mushroom, daffodil, dandelion, ginger, hazelnut, holly, leek, magma cap, morel, purple mushroom, salmonberry, snow yam, wild horseradish and winter root. When one of these items is given to Sebastian, he will say “…?”

Hates

Sebastian hates all he items listed under “Universal Hates,” all eggs (with the exception of loving void egg) and all artisan goods (with the exception of liking coffee, green tea and oil). More personalized items that Sebastian hates are clay, complete breakfast, farmer’s lunch, omelet and pina colada. When one of these items is given to Sebastian, he will say “… I hate this.”

Try to gift Sebastian items he loves because it will help increase his heart rating faster and giving him items he hates will quickly decrease your heart rating with him. Giving him an item on his birthday can earn 8x more points, and during the Feast of the Winter Star you can earn 5x more points. Sebastian’s birthday is Winter 10 and giving him an item will also unlock a unique dialogue.

Stardew Valley Dating Guide: Sebastian’s Heart Events

After achieving a certain number of hearts with Sam, special heart events will be triggered that help players connect with him on a more personal level. These events are cutscenes that give you more insight into his life.

First Heart Event

Once two hearts have been reached with Sebastian, enter his room during a time he is there. You will find Sebastian working on the computer and he apologizes for making you wait. You are given the option to either ask him what he’s working on or compliment him on his room décor. Both of these options have no effect on your friendship level with him. Sebastian then receives a text from Sam asking to hang out, but Sebastian says he rather not. Robin then enters his room and tells him Abigail was looking for him and will stop by later. Sebastian expresses his irritation that nobody takes his job seriously, and you are given the option to either ask him about his career goals or ask why he doesn’t want to see his friends. Both of these options have no effect on your friendship level with him.

Second Heart Event

Once four hearts have been reached with Sebastian, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. go to The Mountain. You will find Sebastian working on a motorcycle in the garage. He explains that it belongs to him, and he likes to go on long rides far away from town. He suggests the idea of you taking a ride with him one day. You are given the option to say either “That sounds fun” (to which Sebastian will say “Great”), “No thanks. That sounds stupid” (to which Sebastian will say “Okay… Nevermind then”) or “I’m scared of motorcycles” (to which Sebastian will either say “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to show you the ropes before I let you do anything dangerous” or “There’s no need to worry… I’ll make sure you’re safe”). Neither of these options will have any effect on your friendship level with him.

Third Heart Event

Once six hearts have been reached with Sebastian, enter his room whenever he is there. Sebastian will invite you to play Solarion Chronicles with him and Sam. You play through a scenario and are given the option to choose either be a warrior, a healer or a wizard. Neither of these options will have any effect on your friendship level with him. To achieve a perfect score, go through the front door, choose to fight the skeleton, raise your shield, go through the left hallway glowing with a green light and then destroy the capsules. During the final battle, if you chose to be a warrior you must defend your friends while the wizard is casting a spell and then attack the boss. If you chose to be a healer, heal Sebastian and he will defeat the boss. If you chose to be a wizard, use “Shield Charm” to protect Sebastian and attack the boss.

Fourth Heart Event

Once eight hearts have been reached with Sebastian, go to the beach between noon and 11 p.m. on a rainy day. You will find Sebastian standing on the boardwalk, he is surprised to see you out in the rain. He tells you he is usually anxious around other people, but he doesn’t feel that way with you. He takes out an umbrella and you and Sebastian enjoy the rain together.

Fifth Heart Event

Once ten hearts have been reached with Sebastian, between 8 p.m. and midnight go to The Mountain. You find Sebastian outside and he says he was just about to go on a motorcycle ride. You join him and he brings you to his favorite spot to think and admire the city. If you’re a girl, he will tell you he’s never brought another girl to this spot. If you’re a boy, he will tell you he’s never felt this way about other guys. He takes a couple puffs from his cigarette, and you are given the option to say either “It’s beautiful,” “It gives me a strange, sad feeling,” “Kind of ugly” or “You should quit smoking.” If you choose to comment on his smoking, he will seem a little annoyed. Either way, all options end with a kiss under the stars.

The final step to capturing Sebastian's heart is marriage.

The final step to capturing Sebastian’s heart is marriage.

Stardew Valley Dating Guide: Marrying Sebastian

After you’ve reached ten hearts with Sebastian, you can finally marry him. To become engaged, you must give Sebastian a Mermaid’s Pendant which can be bought from the Old Mariner. The Old Mariner will be by the tidal pools on the beach and will sell you the pendant for 5,000g. He will not sell you the pendant until your farmhouse has been upgraded at least once. Present the Mermaid’s Pendant to Sebastian, and you are officially engaged.

The wedding will be held three days later, and your friendship level with Sebastian can now reach 14 hearts. Be warned, even though you’re married, if you don’t converse with Sebastian once a day your friendship level will still decrease. Sebastian will move into your farmhouse and get her own personalized space. He will also help with chores around the house and with your farm.

After reaching 14 hearts with Sebastian, on a rainy day between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. go to The Mountain. You will find Sebastian by the lake and will be glad to see you. He tells you he found an injured frog and needs help rescuing it. You help him catch the frog and he notices the frog’s leg is very injured. You are given the option to say either “It’s our new son,” “I don’t think he’s going to make it,” “Let’s nurse him back to health” or “What should we do with him?” If you choose the first option, Sebastian will tease you about it, but no matter what he will take the frog home with him. Enter the farmhouse to trigger the next cutscene. You find that Sebastian has turned his area into a terrarium for the frog, and he wonders if the frog will get lonely. You are given the option to say either “He’ll be fine” (to which Sebastian will agree but still wish for a frog friend) or “Why not start a frog sanctuary?” (to which Sebastian will be enthusiastic about). You are then given the option to say either “I’m glad you’ve found a new hobby” (to which Sebastian says he might take up frog breeding), “I don’t really want this in the house” (to which Sebastian will tell you he can do whatever he wants) or “Why do you like frogs so much, anyway?” (to which Sebastian will tell you he gained a natural affinity for frogs from being out in the rain). Neither of these options have any effect on your friendship level with him, and no matter what the room will remain a terrarium.

Every marriage candidate comes with the same marriage benefits, but every storyline is different and unique for that character. To learn how to charm Alex, Elliot, Harvey or Sam, check out the other Stardew Valley dating guides.
