In this Stardew Valley dating guide, we will go over how to capture the heart of Dr. Harvey. Harvey, the local doctor, is a little older than the other bachelors in town, but who can resist an older man with a stable job?

Stardew Valley Dating Guide: Harvey

If you’re unfamiliar with Stardew Valley, you may think it’s just a simple farm game. The main mission of the game is to save your grandfather’s farm, but behind raising crops and generating profits, players are also able to build connections with the local townspeople. With consistency, these connections can form into a relationship and eventually marriage.

There are 12 potential marriage candidates in Pelican Town, each having their own unique backstory and dialogue. Speaking to these candidates every day and gifting them items is the fastest way to increase your heart rating with them. Reaching certain heart ratings can unlock special “heart events” that will cue cutscenes and give you more information about that character.

Understanding a character’s schedule and their list of likes and dislikes will be crucial when building your relationship with them. In this Stardew Valley dating guide, we will go over everything you need to know about dating Harvey

Harvey runs the town’s medical clinic and is always eager to help the townspeople. On the Stardew Valley Developer Blog, Harvey is described as “a little old for a bachelor, but he has a kind heart and a respected position in the community… You can sense a sadness about him, as if there’s something he’s not telling you…”

Harvey has a kind heart and put the townspeople's health above all.

Stardew Valley Dating Guide: Harvey’s Likes and Dislikes

Almost every item in the game can serve as a gift, but that doesn’t mean your potential partner will like it. Every character has a list of items they love, like, feel neutral about, dislike and hate. Gifting an item that a character loves will earn you more heart rating points, but gifting an item that a character hates will subtract points.

Loves

Harvey loves all the items listed under “Universal Loves,” but more personalized items that Harvey loves are coffee, pickles, a super meal, truffle oil and wine. When one of these items is given to Harvey, he will say “It’s for me? That is my favorite stuff! It’s like you read my mind.”

Likes

Harvey likes the majority of items listed under “Universal Likes,” with the exception of disliking cheese, goat cheese, blueberry tart, chocolate cake, cookie, cranberry sauce, fried mushroom, glazed yams, hashbrowns, ice cream, pancakes, pink cake, pizza, rhubarb pie and rice pudding. He also likes most of the available fruits in the game, with the exception of hating salmonberry and spice berry. More personalized items that Harvey likes are chanterelle, common mushroom, daffodil, dandelion, duck egg, duck feather, ginger, goat milk, hazelnut, holly, large goat milk, leek, magma cap, morel, purple mushroom, quartz, snow yam, spring onion, wild horseradish and winter root. When one of these items is given to Harvey, he will say “That’s such a nice gift. Thank you!”

Neutral

Harvey feels neutral towards all the items listed under “Universal Neutrals,” with the exception of duck feather (which he likes), bread (which he dislikes), and hating coral, nautilus shell and rainbow shell. He also feels neutral towards all eggs with the exception of duck egg (which he likes) and void egg (which he dislikes). More personalized items Harvey feel neutral about are large milk and milk. When one of these items is given to Harvey, he will say “Thanks. That’s very kind of you.”

Dislikes

Harvey dislikes the majority of items listed under “Universal Dislikes,” with the exception of liking spring onion. More personalized items that Harvey dislikes are blueberry tart, bread, cheese, chocolate cake, cookie, cranberry sauce, fried mushroom, glazed yams, goat cheese, hashbrowns, ice cream, pancakes, pink cake, pizza, rhubarb pie and rice pudding. When one of these items is given to Harvey, he will say “Hmm… Are you sure this is healthy?”

Hates

Elliot hates all the items listed under “Universal Hates,” but more personalized items that he hates are coral, nautilus shell, rainbow shell, salmonberry and spice berry. When one of these items is given to Harvey, he will say “… I think I’m allergic to this.”

Gifting items Harvey loves will vastly increase your heart rating faster, and gifting items he hates will decrease points towards your heart rating. Giving him items on his birthday can earn 8x more points, and during the Feast of the Winter Star you can earn 5x more points. Harvey’s birthday is Winter 14 and giving him an item will also unlock a unique dialogue.

Harvey likes items that are healthy, and won't really appreciate items that are considered unhealthy.

Stardew Valley Dating Guide: Harvey’s Heart Events

After achieving a certain number of hearts with Harvey, special heart events will be triggered that help players connect with him on a more personal level. Cutscenes will occur that give more insight into his life.

First Heart Event

Once two hearts have been reached with Harvey, enter George’s house while George is there and a cutscene will occur. Harvey will be performing a private check-up on George, and you learn that George needs to make some lifestyle changes if he wants to keep healthy. George becomes irritated and says he knows what is best for his body. Harvey notices you standing there and tries to rush you away, but George stops him and asks you for a second opinion on his health. You are given the option to say either “George should follow Dr. Harvey’s advice” (which will grant you 40 friendship points) or “George knows what’s best for his own body” (which will make you lose 40 friendship points).

Second Heart Event

Once four hearts have been reached with Harvey, enter the clinic when he is there. Harvey tells you he was just about to write you a letter about your annual checkup but notices your pulse seems high. You are given the option to say either “I’m out of breath from working on the farm” (which will grant you 20 friendship points), “I’m a little nervous…” (which will grant you 20 friendship points), or “Are you really a doctor? My pulse is fine!” (which will make you lose 50 friendship points).

Third Heart Event

Once six hearts have been reached with Harvey, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. enter the general store. You walk in on a dance aerobics session with some of the ladies and Harvey. Harvey runs into you as he is exiting and seems very embarrassed about his secret. He explains how he’s doing it to stay healthy, but seems discouraged since it’s difficult for him to keep up with the group. He then asks you not to tell the rest of the town about his dance aerobics, and you are given the option to say either “I won’t tell” (which will grant you 20 friendship points), or “I can’t promise that” (which will make you lose 50 friendship points).

Fourth Heart Event

Once eight hearts have been reached with Harvey, enter the clinic at any time. You head into Harvey’s room and find him messing with a device in an attempt to contact a pilot. He suddenly gets a response from the device and responds with his coordinates before signing off. You are given the option to either ask Harvey why he is so flustered or pretend like everything is normal, both options have no effect on friendship. Either way, Harvey opens up to you about how he always wanted to be a pilot when he was younger but couldn’t achieve his dream due to his bad eyesight and fear of heights.

Fifth Heart Event

Once ten hearts have been reached with Harvey, he will send you a letter asking to meet at the railroad tracks between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. that day. When you arrive, a man in a hot air balloon lands nearby and says the balloon is yours for the next two hours. You are given two options, if you choose to hop right into the air balloon Harvey will join and start ascending the balloon, but if you choose to ask him why he decided to do this since he is scared of heights, he will explain how he admires you and your courage and that should be enough for the both of you. Before the two-hour ride is over, you and Harvey kiss and return the balloon to the man a half hour late.

After you have reached ten hearts with Harvey and gone on the hot air balloon date, you are now able to propose to him.

Stardew Valley Dating Guide: Marrying Harvey

Once you’ve reached ten hearts with Harvey, he is now eligible for marriage. To become engaged, you must give Harvey a Mermaid’s Pendant which can be bought from the Old Mariner. The Old Mariner will be by the tidal pools on the beach and will sell you the pendant for 5,000g. He will not sell you the pendant until your farmhouse has been upgraded at least once. Present the Mermaid’s Pendant to Harvey, and you are officially engaged.

Three days letter, you will have your wedding and officially become husband and wife/husband. After marriage, your friendship level with Harvey can now reach 14 hearts, but your friendship level can also decrease by 20 points a day if you don’t converse with him. Harvey will then move into the farmhouse; he will get his own personalized space within your house and sometimes he will help out around the farm.

After reaching 14 hearts with Harvey, between 8 p.m. and midnight enter your upgraded farmhouse to trigger a cutscene. Harvey is cooking and then setting the table for dinner. He has cooked you angel hair pasta with clams, and then happily does the dishes.

Each potential partner comes with the same marriage benefits, but every storyline is different and unique for that character. Harvey in particular will set up some of his trinkets in your room, and he will start a garden to the right of your farmhouse.
