Honkai: Star Rail Has Recast Another EN Voice Actor in Version 2.7

The Patch Notes for Version 2.7 of Honkai: Star Rail have confirmed that another playable character has been recast, with the effected party this time being Tingyun. This announcement comes only a few months after a string of similar recasts to characters in both HSR and Zenless Zone Zero, one of Hoyoverse's other popular gacha titles.

Honkai: Star Rail Has Recast Another EN Voice Actor in Version 2.7Only a few short months after a wave of recastings hit several Hoyoverse titles, Honkai: Star Rail has announced that it has recast another prominent member of its cast during the Version 2.7 update. This time, the affected character is Tingyun, a fan-favourite and a character who has been in the game since it launched. The news was announced as part of the 2.7 Patch Notes, with the update having since rolled out to all players.

Since Version 1.0 of Honkai: Star Rail, the English version of Tingyun has been voiced by Laci Morgan, who appeared as recently as Version 2.5 in a short voice clip teasing her character’s imminent return. However, thanks to the Version 2.7 Patch Notes, we know that she has been recast, with Anya Floris taking over the role. Floris is also the voice actor for Fugue, the updated version of Tingyun who makes her first appearance during the 2.7 Trailblaze Mission.

The recasting of Tingyun coincides with her reintroduction to the main story of Honkai: Star Rail. After her abrupt exit from the narrative all the way back in Version 1.2, Tingyun has returned in the most recent version as Fugue after her body was experimented on by Star Rail’s resident mad biologist, Ruan Mei. Like Dan Heng and Imbitior Lunae, Tingyun and Fugue are two distinct playable characters with their playstyles, Paths, elements and even rarities, with Fugue being upgraded to a 5-star scheduled for release in phase two of 2.7, which is set to begin on the 24th of December.

This marks the fourth major recast in the last year for Honkai: Star Rail and the sixth significant recast for all of Hoyoverse’s major titles. Back in Version 2.4, the voice actors for Huohuo, Tail, and Argenti were all suddenly replaced near the beginning of the SAG-AFTRA Strike: Megan Shipman took over for Courtney Lin as Huohuo whereas both of Adam Michael Gold’s roles were replaced by Aaran Veach and Taron Warburton, respectively. Around this same time frame, Zenless Zone Zero also recast Courtney Lin, who played Soukaku, as well as Lucy. If that wasn’t all, Soukaku’s voice actress has been replaced a third time as of Version 1.3.

In addition to replacing Tingyun’s voice actress, Version 2.7 of Honkai: Star Rail is also where the effects of the SAG-AFTRA strike have become apparent in the game. Similar to the last few versions of Genshin Impact, several characters in the 2.7 Trailblaze Mission are mute as a result of the actors striking, either as members of SAG-AFTRA or in solidarity with the union members. These impacted characters include Himeko, Dan Heng, the Trailblaze, and Robin, all of whom feature prominently in either the Trailblaze Mission or the Cosmic Home Decor Event.

Whether the effects of the voice actors’ strike will stretch onto Version 3.0 and beyond is currently unknown, although it appears that things may be improving. Although Robin’s voice actress Alice Himora does not appear in Version 2.7’s voiced content, she does appear in the most recent Keeping Up With Star Rail about Sunday. In addition, a few of the voice actors who missing during Genshin Impact Version 5.1 returned during the Version 5.2 Interlude. This information is unconfirmed.
