The end of the 2.0 series of patches in Honkai: Star Rail is within sight, with the final major update, Version 2.7, just being showcased in a new Special Program. Not only did this livestream showcase the exciting new content coming in 2.7 – which includes two highly anticipated new characters, the true conclusion to the Penacony storyline, a customisable room for the Trailblazer, and even a free 5-star character – but also what we can expect shortly with Version 3.0.

Before going any further, here are the three redemption codes that were given out during the 2.7 Special Program. You have 24 hours to redeem them and each code will give you 100 Stellar Jade for free so act fast.

Sunday, Penitent Support

First and foremost, Version 2.7 will add two of the most highly anticipated characters in HSR, beginning with the return of everyone’s favourite Order follower, Sunday. After discarding the dreams of both The Order and The Harmony, Sunday (now a fugitive) hopes to chase his dream of unity with his own strength. In combat, Sunday is an Imaginary Harmony unit whose Skill causes an ally and their summon (Jing Yuan and the Lightning Lord, Topaz and Numby, etc.) to act immediately, with a large damage boost if the chosen ally has a summon. His Ultimate buffs a single ally, regenerating their Energy and making them Beadified, increasing the CRIT Rate of them and their summon.

Meanwhile, the other character arriving in 2.7 is the 5-star form of Tingyun, who goes by a new name: Tingyun has cast off her original name – as well as her original Path and Element – after being brought back from the brink of death by Ruan Mei. In battle, Tingyun is now a Fire Nihility unit focused on Super Break. When allies attack Weakness Broken enemies they will deal Super Break DMG similar to the effect from the HMC’s Ultimate. Additionally, her Skill increases a single ally’s Break Effect and enhances Fugue’s Basic ATK, whereas her Ultimate deals AoE Fire DMG which reduces Toughness regardless of Weakness type.

Phase 1 of Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.7 will have Sunday and his signature Light Cone, A Grounded Ascent, as the new featured character and LC. He will be joined by the dozing general of the Xianzhou Luofu, Jing Yuan, who will also be available alongside his signature Light Cone. Qingque, Arlan, and the original Tingyun will rate rate-up 4-star units on both banners.

Meanwhile, in phase 2, Fugue will take over for Sunday, with her Light Cone, Long Road Leads Home, also being available. She will be accompanied by one of her best pairings, Firefly, who is an absurdly good Super Break DPS. The featured 4-stars on these banners include Gallagher, Yukong, and Misha.

The new arrivals for 2.7 are absolutely stacked but, with Version 3.0 and the new characters from Amphoreus on the horizon, some may be hesitant to pull for either Sunday or Fugue. However, both are very much worth the Stellar Jade with Sunday, in particular, looking like a great pick-up in preparation for 3.0.

Alongside the new units, Version 2.7 will also host the final major Trailblaze Mission of the 2.0 series of patches. A Venture on the Eighth Dawn is the last major story arc before we depart for the ancient planet of Amphoreus and will primarily focus on Sunday’s aimless wandering and Tingyun’s new mindset after being rescued. The livestream also seemed to imply that Sunday or Fugue may join the Astral Express during this story quest. The last major Penacony update was in 2.3 so, for those who are a bit lost, there’s a new Story Recap feature for when you start a new Trailblaze Mission to help you catch up.

Aside from the new characters and the new story, the biggest thing coming in 2.7 is an expansion to the Astral Express. The Party Car is a large new social area aboard the Astral Express complete with a large variety of seating and even a bar with a robotic bartender. However, the most exciting thing about the Party Car is that, after almost two years, the Trailblazer will finally get their own room.

While it appears empty at first, players will be able to decorate it with mementoes and souvenirs from the Trailblazer’s journey beginning in the new event, the Cosmic Home Decor Guide. Completing the room will also unlock Pom-Pom’s Wardrobe, allowing you to dress up the Express’ Conductor in a wide variety of cute and cuddly outfits.

Aside from the decoration event, Version 2.7 will also feature several other updates and occurrences. Firstly, Between the Frames is a new photography-focused event where you will team up with March to complete photography tasks given out by Penacony’s famed Mr Reca. Secondly, the Divergent Universe will be receiving a new update with several new Curios and Equations as well as an update to the save file feature: now, instead of decaying after one week, Save Files will last for a full version update. And, of course, there will also be a new Gift of Odyssey log-in event for 10 free pulls.

Some other endgame modes are also being updated in 2.7. Pure Fiction will receive a new buff system known as Grit, which is obtained as you meet certain requirements or defeat large groups of opponents. When you reach full Grit, your entire team will get a wide range of buffs and bonuses. Additionally, non-boss enemies will now continuously respawn and defeating them will even lower the health of the current boss target.

Honkai: Star Rail’s client file size is also set to be lowered, meaning that it will take up far less storage. If you’re on mobile, you can even delete older files to lower the storage amount even further, which should bring Star Rail more in line with Hoyoverse’s other titles.

Finally, for Version 2.7 at least, there was one more surprise waiting for us at the end of the livestream. If you log in between the start of Version 2.7 and the start of Version 3.2 (which will begin sometime between May and June 2025), you can claim a free 5-star Character Selector. This will let you obtain one of the Standard 5-star characters – Himeko, Welt, Bailu, Bronya, Gepard, Yanqing, or Clara  – for free.

While that’s everything for 2.7. the Special Program also gave us a tease at what to expect in Version 3.0 from both a lore and gameplay perspective. During the livestream, a beautiful new trailer showcasing the lore and story of Amphoreus was showcased, which also gave us a look at several new characters coming in the 3.0 patches. Interestingly, a large portion of Amphoreus’ cast appears to be based on the Flamechasers from Honkai: Impact 3rd. Amphoreus itself is based on ancient Greece and Rome with a bloody celestial war being the backdrop for the entire planet.

Furthermore, as revealed by the recent batch of 3.0 drip marketing, Version 3.0 will add the playable Remembrance Path. The unique gimmick of the Remembrance Path will be summons, with each Remembrance Character having a unique summon called a Memo Sprite. These Sprites will act as another team member in battle and provide a wide variety of effects: they will even take on buffs and bonuses such as shields.

The last major talking point of the 2.7 Special Program was about a batch of new items coming in 3.0 which will completely change the Relic grind. 3.0 will add Wishful Resin in addition to Self-Modelling Resin. This new form of resin will let you choose some substats on your relics: when combined with Self-Modelling Resin, you can create a relic of your choice with the right main and sub-stats. Additionally, another new item, the Variable Dice, will let you redistribute stat upgrades on fully levelled Relics.

Version 2.7 of Honkai: Star Rail will arrive on the 4th of December 2024.
