Everything Revealed in the Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.3 Special Program

Hoyoverse just wrapped the Special Program for Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.3, the last act in the current Penacony storyline. 2.3 is set to add two new playable characters - including the fan favourite Firefly - as well as two massive updates to the endgame, new events, free pulls and characters, and more.

Everything Revealed in the Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.3 Special Program

The end of Penacony draws near with the arrival of Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.3, which was extensively revealed in a new Version Special Program. Not only will this update add the last leg of the current Penacony Trailblaze Quest, but Version 2.3 will also see the advent of two new playable units, a massive expansion to the Simulated Universe, a new boss-focused endgame mode, and more.

However, before we go any further, let’s begin by looking at the three Stellar Jade redemption codes that were given out throughout the livestream. If you’re able to redeem all three, you’ll get 300 Stellar Jade and a bunch of upgrade materials, but act fast because they’ll only last for 24 hours.

First things first, Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.3 will add two new playable 5-stars: the Stellaron Hunter Firefly, and the IPC Stoneheart Jade. Beginning with Firefly, she’ll join as a new playable Fire Destruction unit with a very unique gimmick. In the overworld, you’ll play as the Firefly we’ve all grown to know and love but once you enter combat she’ll transform into the mighty SAM, complete with a deadly set of fiery abilities.

In her neutral state, Firefly’s Skill will drain her HP but it will also implant Fire Weakness and regenerate her Ultimate Energy. Once she triggers her Ultimate, Firefly enters the Complete Combustion State, transforming her moveset and enhancing both her Skill and Basic ATK. Now, instead of draining HP, her Skill will heal her and reduce enemy toughness at a massively reduced rate. Break Effect and destroying enemy Toughness Bars are a massive part of her kit.

2.3’s second new 5-star is Jade, one of the Ten Stonehearts and a heavyweight in the IPC. She’s a new Quantum Erudition unit who lurks in the shadows, moving the pieces in secret so she’s always at an advantage. Her Basic ATK deals Blast DMG while her Skill will place of Loan on one ally, increasing their SPD and DMG at the cost of their own health. Whenever Jade or the ally blessed with her Skill delivers an attack, Jade will accrue charges which, when full, will unleash a devastating Follow-Up Attack, like all other IPC members.

As for the Version 2.3 Event Warps, phase 1 will see Firefly joined by the cold and focused Ruan Mei, who returns for her first rerun. They will also be joined by Gallagher, Misha, and Xueyi as rate-up 4-stars.

Meanwhile, in phase 2, Jade will take the stage alongside Argenti, the Knight of Beauty. As for the phase 2 rate-up 4 stars, Asta, Natasha, and Serval will make their appearance.

Version 2.3 will also see the end of the Penacony storyline in the new Trailblaze Mission “Farewell, Penacony” which will primarily take place on The Radiant Fieldspar. This gigantic floating airship has languished in the skies of the Dreamscape for a whole Amber Era and will become a new explorable location in Version 2.3.

Alongside a new chapter in the story, Version 2.3 of Honkai: Star Rail is also introducing two significant additions to the game’s endgame content. The Simulated Universe is set to receive another massive expansion known as the Divergent Universe: The Human Comedy. This update is similar to the Swarm Disaster or Gold and Gears expansions but also very different, serving more as a new way to play the Simulated Universe regularly.

Before the start of every test, players can choose a random equation which is the combination of two Aeon Paths. If you manage to reach the necessary Blessings required, the equation will activate, giving you access to a massive increase in power. Fortunately, you can also switch either your line-up or your equation during the test if you feel like they’re an unsuitable match. Furthermore, you will no longer be kicked out of the Divergent Universe when defeated: they will, instead, be allowed to switch teams or retry the fight.

The Divergent Universe is also set to add a huge optimisation to Planar Ornament farming. Upon clearing the Simulated Universe, players can save their individual runs, including what team members were used and what Curios, Paths, and Blessings were obtained. They can then use their save states to immediately challenge previous Simulated Universe bosses, awarding players with specific Planar Ornament drops on a successful clear. To celebrate, the Divergent Universe will add two new Planar Ornament sets in Version 2.3 and the Herta Shop is stocking a slick new 5-Star Erudition Light Cone, Eternal Calculus.

The other update to Star Rail’s endgame is the addition of a third boss-focused mode which will join the Memory of Chaos and Pure Fiction rotation. This is Apocalyptic Shadow, a mode where you face off against powerful foes from your past, armed with various buffs as you try and take them down as fast as possible.

Like with the other permanent game modes, each Apocalyptic Shadow rotation will have two sides to clear, each with its own boss. Each team can also benefit from a range of unique buffs, which players should try to play towards if they want to clear efficiently. Furthermore, for successfully completing the second difficulty in Apocaltpic Shadow, all players will receive a free copy of Xueyi as well as 300 Stellar Jade and a Self Modelling Resin

Finally, Version 2.3 will also add several new events outside of Apocalyptic Shadow and the Divergent Universe, as well as a few other optimisations and updates. Origami Bird Clash is a fun match-three-type event featuring colourful avian passengers which will award strategic players with Jade and other resources. Meanwhile, the Planar Fissure and Realm of the Strange events return, giving you an opportunity for enhanced Relic farming.

2.3 will also feature a new Gift of Odyssey log-in campaign, awarding diligent Trailblazers with up to 10 free pulls if they log in for a week at the start of the update. Additionally, the Harmony Trailblaze will be available to all players early in a new mission after they complete the Jarillo-VI storyline: if players already have the Harmony MC from the Penacony Quest, they will, instead, receive their last Eidolon
