Weapon Types

Each weapon in a class plays differently to one another so it’s good that we outline their basics first:

Splatana Wiper – A short range quick weapon with wave like projectiles that can be shot either vertically or horizontally depending on whether you charge the weapon. It is able to kill in 4 regular swings (30 damage each swing) and 2 charged swings (60 damage each swing)

Splatana Stamper – A Long range slow version of the Wiper that is able to kill in 2 regular swings (35 damage each swing) and 2 charged swings (70 damage each swing)

The Wiper is more suited to those who prefer to be more agile and sneak around whereas the Stamper is more for those who are skilled with their spacing and aim. Both have a direct hit box which splats when it hits the enemies. You may think that you need to make contact with the opponent to get the splat, but this is not true. The range of this is bigger than you would think. For example, you can splat people on top when you are under the tower in Tower Control.

Splatana Range Comparison

Splatana Range Comparison

Here above we can see that the Splatanas have decent range, both can out range the Splattershot and other short range Shooters. The Stamper has a long range, however, due to how slow it is, you really need to be careful on what you fight. You need precision to play this Splatana. If you miss a single swing, that could cost you a fight. This is because of how slow the weapon is. The Stamper’s slow swings causes it to be vulnerable to weapons such as chargers, as they even have more range than it.

Playstyle

The Splatana classes are very similar to the Brush class in that they are often skirmishers who look to distract opponents while getting splats and threatening their positions. They can also be decent at painting by using the charged swing. The regular swings leave a less consistent trail of ink and also don’t go as far.

Mainly when picking fights, you will want to either catch the opponent off guard and use your direct hit or move the opposite direction they are. What this means is if they are pushing you, you should walk backwards while swinging and vice versa. You otherwise need to keep your distance and use your range to either chip them enough to retreat or splat them.

As a Splatana player, do not worry if you end up dying a lot. As long as you have more splats than deaths and the enemies focus on you, you are doing your job right. This doesn’t however mean splatting is your only job, you also can pressure positions forcing movement and act as a distraction with your high mobility. Can you see a Splatling or Charger all on their own? Then if the enemies are focused on the objective, try sneaking around to them to take them out.

Splatana Reticles

Splatana Reticles

Paying attention to the reticle of any weapon is important. As for Splatanas, you have these lines which show how wide the projectiles the Splatana makes are. This is key to playing the weapon well, as long as you aim the opponent within these lines you will hit them. Try focusing on aiming the reticle on the edge of the direction the opponent is moving to hit them.

Make sure with both that you make good use of the Squid Roll. It allows for fast movement mix ups that can allow you to better ambush enemies that may spot you. Movement is key for Splatanas as you are most effective at close range. So being less predictable is important.

I would also suggest if you see an opening in the opponent’s defenses, try and flank to get a splat or distract them. Splatana excels as being able to win 1v1’s. This doesn’t mean push alone though. Splatana while good at doing its own thing, it is great when paired up with another Slayer weapon like a Splattershot. The opponent may struggle to deal with both of you. Never try and take on more than one enemy at a time unless you have the turf advantage around them. Being able to move easier allows you to be more aggressive by utilizing Squid Rolls.

Strategies

Splatana is great for getting easy kills. Remember how deadly your weapon can be with accuracy. If opponents get close they will either be in the direct hit range or take more damage due to the Splatana itself hitting them. Hitting an opponent with the Splatana blade itself does a extra chunk of damage that can allow you to get a kill with one less swing.

Note that a Stamper can be extremely dangerous up close with its Burst Bomb. It can do a very quick combo where you throw a Burst Bomb then do a regular swing. The Wiper can also combo well with its Torpedo bomb, a direct from this plus a single charged swing is able to splat. Splatana Stamper can also splat easily by doing a single charge swing then a regular. You should be sure to make good use of your sub weapons to annoy and poke the enemies. Both are fast low ink consumption subs, so spamming them may give you the opportunity to push in. Especially the Torpedo which tracks and locates opponents for you.

Positions

With how lethal Splatanas can be, opponents may often choose to not approach you. Use this to your advantage, if they have less range than you, then use your own to get them. Do not be afraid to approach as you can excel at both ranged fights and close quarters.

One strength with the Splatanas is the element of surprise. To make this easier, consider running the Ninja Squid ability.  This allows you to sneak up on opponents without a Swim Form trail. I would also suggest having mains of Swim Speed Up as this allows for more movement speed and even allows you to escape better when you are weak.

As a skirmisher you should always be trying to solo out enemies and causing distractions. Flanking is highly important for Splatanas. For the Stamper, you may want to play a little more away from the opponents. Due to the range and slowness of the weapon. It’s important for both that you keep your range in mind, just because you have a one hit kill doesn’t mean you need to be up close. Always use the swings to deal with weapons such as Rollers as they can splat you much faster if you are up close.

Overall, the Splatana class is great at being a distraction that can poke and assist other flankers. They excel at splatting and posing a threat to opponents in their defenses. They can open up pushes and allow for victory to be an easy “wipe”. Splating in style and grace!

We hope this Splatana guide is able to help you destroy all those who oppose the blade. Let us know down below what are your thoughts about the Splatana class? Do you enjoy it? Is it a pain to fight against? Feel free to tell us!
