You heard right my fellow Directors, Remedy has come out with a fresh new update for Control: Ultimate Edition. This free update is available today though currently only to PC players (Steam and Epic Games Store with GOG to follow).
It mainly consists of improvements on graphics and DLSS support, though there are a few nice surprises too. Remedy has said that console players will be receiving this update too. Though there isn’t a confirmed release date at the moment, Remedy isn’t leaving us in the dark. They will reveal the date on their social channels so be on the lookout. Here is a link to look through the update notes though I’ll summarise them down below.
Missions and Outfits
The biggest part of the update is that all players can now play the Dr Yoshimi Tokui’s Guided Imagery Experience mission. This was originally exclusive to players who pre-ordered the PS4 digital deluxe edition of the original Control. The mission begins after picking up one of the collectable tapes in the Extrasensory Lab of the Research Sector. I’d give this a go especially if you’re a fan of Hideo Kojima since he lends his voice for the mission.
Alongside the mission, you’ll be able to update Jesse’s wardrobe with previously exclusive attire. Three outfits are coming out of exclusivity. They are the Astral Dive Suit, the Tactical Response Gear, and the Urban Response Gear. These outfits can be accessed and equipped via the control point in the Central Executive Sector Area.
Graphical and DLSS
On the graphical side, there are quite a few tweaks and improvements. Remedy has added HDR support, a new Ultra ray tracking preset, ultrawide monitor support, FOV scaling for the gameplay camera, and support for rendering resolution beyond 4K. They’ve also updated the SDR to 10bit and fixed some Ray tracing bugs. There are a few other graphical implements like screen aspect ratio fixes for ultrawide monitors and texture streaming fixes.
Meanwhile, they’ve added DLSS support for arbitrary resolutions:
- Added DLAA support
- Updated DLSS to DLSS 3.7, with higher temporal stability
- Film grain added back to DLSS SR
- Fixed shadow resolution when DLSS is enabled
- Added resolution-dependent mip map bias for DLSS.
Some other general updates among bug fixes are related to the audio in the cinematic end credits. Mostly to remove unintended channel mixing so that you’ll only hear what Remedy wants you to hear.
