Remedy has today delayed the next-gen version of Control until early 2021. The Ultimate Edition will still release later this year but players will have to wait until early next year until they see the benefits on their shiny new next-gen consoles.
In a tweet, Remedy Entertainment said:
“We want the final quality of the game to be awesome, and so we need a bit more time to work on it, thank you for your understanding and patience!”
Since its announcement earlier this year, the new version has received large amounts of criticism especially from players who own the original game. The Ultimate Edition version is the only way to play the game with enhanced PS5 & Xbox Series X benefits, whereas, developers such as EA offering free upgrades for players who own the previous-gen version of their games.
After the heavy criticism, Remedy defended the decision
“Every avenue we pursued, there was some form of blocker and those blockers meant that at least one group of players ended up being left out of the upgrade for various reasons. As of today, we can’t offer an upgrade to everyone, and leaving any one group out feels unfair. We understand that is not what you want to hear.”
