New Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Gameplay Revealed at State of Play

PlayStation dropped a supersized gameplay video for the new Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart at today's State of Play. The lengthy demo offered an in-depth look at some core parts of its gameplay, as well as its stunning visuals. Rift Apart will pick up where Into the Nexus left off and release on June 11 this year.

An extended look at Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was given at PlayStation’s State of Play event earlier today with a 15-minute long gameplay demo.

The demo offered a deep dive into the game’s combat and exploration. The first half focused mainly on Ratchet, while the latter portion emphasized Rivet – the recently-named female Lombax introduced at last year’s PS5 reveal

Ratchet is shown navigating through enemies and obstacles to reunite with Clank, who is hanging around Rivet at the moment. It looks like he’s got a few new movement options this time around, along with the sort of sizable arsenal one would come to expect from a Ratchet & Clank game.

Some new gameplay of Rivet is also shown. She seemingly plays quite similarly to Ratchet and shows off a few more of the game’s new weapons.

The demo also showcases some of the ways in which the game will incorporate the PS5’s unique features, other than looking visually stunning. The Dualsense’s adaptive triggers allow weapons to fire differently depending on how hard the player is pulling on them. During a boss fight, Ratchet and his opponent are flung into another level near instantly, which Creative Director Marcus Smith explains is possible thanks to the PS5’s solid-state drive.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was announced at last year’s PS5 reveal event. It was initially confirmed to be a sequel to 2013’s Into the Nexus, but earlier this year, developer Insomniac Games revealed that, somehow, it’s also a sequel to the 2016 re-imagining of the original title. Given the game’s interdimensional setting, it’s not hard to imagine it functioning as both.

Will you be hopping through dimensions when Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart hits PS5 on June 11? Let us know in the comments!
