Insomniac Games currently develops a re-imagining of the original Ratchet & Clank game. It should be published alongside its movie counterpart in spring 2016. The game will feature a new and an interesting weapon, which turns enemies into an 8-bit Appearance.
Ratchet & Clank series is known for its variety of (sometimes a very creative) arsenal. Throughout the series, you could use the old fashioned shooting weapons, or just throw bombs, shoot deadly electricity around, turn enemies into chickens, and finally, launch rockets accompanied by the sound of Dvorak's New World Symphony. And much more. The newest Ratchet & Clank game features, alongside many other interesting elements, the Pixelizer. It can be seen in the 7-minute gameplay demo.
The Pixelizer is a shotgun-like weapon which turns enemies into 8-bit characters, making them pixelated. The projectiles bear some green flavour and will come out from what appears to be a green screen. The weapon is put on directly on Ratchet's right hand and will hold 12 pieces of ammunition maximum. It's yet unknown how will the players be able to obtain it. Insomniac games said that the visual effect of the weapon was one of the most challenging things to do.
The effect works pretty well with the game's up-to-date sharp graphics. You can check the Pixelizer in action in this gameplay video.
