A new Ratchet and Clank game may be heading to the PS5.
Before Insomniac developed Marvel’s Spider-Man, they had released a remake of the original Ratchet and Clank. The franchise has remained silent ever since, but a return of the Lombax and his little robot buddy may be on the cards. Colin Moriarty, the host of the Sacred Symbols podcast and a veteran in games journalist, commented on the game, hinting it may be a PS5 launch title. Speaking on the podcast, he mentioned that the game might have converted from current consoles to the upcoming next-generation.
I feel like that’s going to be a launch title, the Ratchet and Clank game that’s long been in development at Insomniac.
Ratchet & Clank Are PlayStation Icons! Now They’ll Stay That Way
A rumour of a new Ratchet and Clank game isn’t surprising. The franchise has always been one of the most popular in PlayStation’s catalogue. Last year, Sony purchased Insomniac, making it one of their first-party studios. This deal couldn’t have just been to tie down a Spider-Man sequel, of which Sony owns the rights. It would be disastrous for PlayStation to lose such an iconic figure, diluting the impact of the franchise by becoming a third-party title. Thankfully, that will not be the case.
The full reveal of the PS5 is imminent, and we can expect to get a teaser trailer for future launch games, so this rumour will soon be proven or unproven. We adored the 2016 remake, praising it for staying true to its platforming roots while being jaw-droppingly gorgeous to boot! Last month we reported that a leak concerning the narrative and general gameplay mechanics of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. With this new rumour coming mere weeks after the last, one thing is for sure. Insomniac, with the backing of a significant platform, will be looking to make their mark as a first-party developer, like Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica and Guerrilla Games before them.
The Ratchet and Clank remake is available on PS4.
