Good news for Disco Elysium fans as the game’s studio, ZA/UM, has recently announced their new project. Their next game is titled, so far, Project C4; whether this is the official name or it will be changed later is yet to be seen. Not so good news, the game won’t be the much-anticipated sequel to Disco Elysium. Instead, it is a new project that will focus on spying and espionage.
The new project of Disco Elysium Studio already has a teaser that gives fans a glimpse into what they can expect. IGN was briefed on more details regarding Project C4. According to the publication:
- The game takes place into a new world that is different from that of Disco Elysium.
- It won’t be a 007 kind of game. It is, instead, inspired by the novels of John le Carré.
- Disco Elysium studio’s new project has elements of psychadelic sci-fi. These elements are inspired by Usula LeGuin and Philip K. Dick.
Fans can already see some of the game’s artwork which is one of the reasons to be excited for the game.
More Details About Disco Elysium Studio’s New Project
It has also been revealed that Project C4 will focus on the struggles spies go through behind the scenes. This includes allegiances and betrayals. Players’ actions will have consequences since failure would be accounted for. There is no turning back once a mistake happens. This same feature of moving forward is in Disco Elysium. So fans can look for a little bit of similarity between the two games.
A press release revealed more about the game:
“The world of [C4] is rife with shadowy characters who help move the pieces for competing geopolitical powers in a game of concealed conflict. The player sets out to complete a desperate assignment which will put them at risk of losing their life, or much worse – being exposed for what they really are.”
–ZA/UM Studio
Project C4 will see players playing the role of an Operant who works for a global power. They will guide their character through the struggle between truth and influence. The “mind-warping espionage RPG” seems promising as the new project for Disco Elysium studio.
A Troubling Few Years
The new project of Disco Elysium studio is coming after a troubling few years where a lot of changes took place. Several people in the studio were fired from their positions in 2022 including:
- Disco Elysium game director Robert Kurvitz.
- Art director Aleksander Rostov.
- Writer Helen Hindpere.
After this event, ZA/UM claimed that there was a toxic work environment which was the reason behind this decision. These layoffs were also followed by some canceled projects including the sequel for Disco Elysium. Despite this, several studios were formed by previous employees in hopes of creating something similar to that of Disco Elysium. More details about the game might be revealed at the nearing Game Developers Conference.
