INTRODUCTION
FL4K has got to be the coolest vault hunter in Borderlands 3. Even though Zane was our first choice, we couldn’t wait for our second playthrough with the beastmaster. FL4K can be played in many ways seeing as he has access to three different pets that can be an offensive or a support tool. Furthermore, FL4K can dish out an insane amount of critical damage and literally melt through enemies. Our FL4K build plays into that fact while adding much-needed survivability for solo play.
With that said, we’ve decided to build him in a completely selfish way, where improving FL4K is the sole focus. High damage output – high survivability is the name of the game, so let’s get right into it.
This guide was made possible thanks to ALLYOUPLAY where you can buy Borderlands 3 at a price of €44.26 / $45.25 by entering “KeenGamer” as 20% discount code during checkout. The site is even giving away three copies of the game in the giveaway.

SOLO DECIMATOR BUILD
This FL4K build focuses heavily on improving his critical damage output. Pets take on a more supportive role in keeping FL4K alive while further boosting his damage. You can either prioritize the Stalker skill tree or alternate investing skill point in Stalker and Hunter, leaving the Master skill investment for last.
As mentioned, this build not only has an insane amount of DPS potential but also allows for high survivability – so much so that we rarely ever died using it. Most skills you invest in here will either boost damage, health regeneration or reduction of the skill cooldown timer. You can literally melt through enemies and each one you kill will reduce the cooldown on your Fade Away invisibility skill, allowing you to be able to use it almost non-stop. Fade Away can be used to give you a breather when under fire but can also help in dispatching enemies.
In that regard, we often switched between the Until You Are Dead and Guerillas in the Mist augments. The former allowed for higher damage output and provided extended invisibility – which was especially useful for certain boss fights, and the latter was great when we faced numerous weaker enemies who we killed en masse – Predator style.
Our pet of choice for this FL4K build was the Spiderant Scorcher as it further boosted our health regeneration and granted some elemental damage atop of our critical damage output. Not only will FL4K constantly regenerate health from multiple skills but his pet will also be able to revive him should he suffer a bleed out thanks to the Lick the Wounds skill.
Seeing as the critical damage is boosted no matter the weapons, it’s best to use it with rapid-fire weapons with a deep magazine. This will make your FL4K into a DPS tank that will turn enemies into exploding guts whenever you fire at them.
ULTIMATE PREDATOR BUILD
This FL4K build utilizes a mix of skills from the Stalker and the Master skill trees. The skill point investing priority should be given to the stalker tree to give FL4K a fighting chance and increase his survivability in the early game. After that, the rest skill points should be invested into the Master skill tree to buff FL4K and his pets for the endgame.
This build offers insane survivability and a fair amount of pet support. First up, the Stalker tree is fully utilized to increase FL4K’s damage output movement speed and health regeneration while reducing damage received and skill cooldown. We feel like this is the most optimal skill combination for an ultimate FL4K build. Additionally, FL4K’s cloaking ability – Fade Away is used to further boost survivability by augmenting it with Guerillas in the Mist and Until You are Dead skills. This will ensure that you can fire away while staying cloaked for extended periods of time. Furthermore, this build is also outfitted with Lick the Wounds skill which will make your pet revive you should you enter bleed out state.
Seeing as you want to make good use of the time FL4K is invisible, the build is best used with weapons with fast fire rate and deep magazines. Think Vladof assault rifles that can continuously shoot and dish out insane amounts of damage thanks to the skills from the Stalker tree.
The Master skill tree then takes all that to make this FL4K build truly endgame. Most of the skills here are once again, aimed at increasing damage output, health regeneration and action skill duration. Furthermore, the build utilizes an awesome synergy between the Who Rescued Who?, Hive Mind and Mutated Defenses skills for ultimate survivability setup. These three skills will make both FL4K and his pet nigh unkillable as long as you are killing enemies.
RELEASE THE KRAKEN BUILD
If you don’t want to be a selfish FL4K, you can go all-in on your faithful companion beasts. The beastmaster has one more build up his sleeve that can make him survive against all odds while also bringing the pain to his enemies.
As you might imagine, the bulk of the skills will go into FL4K’s Master skill tree, with some going into the Stalker. The build is best used with the Eridian Skag which will increase FL4K’s damage and fire rate. Additionally, this Skag can generate a singularity for added crowd control when necessary. This can synergize well with the Gamma Burst action skill which will enable you to easily dispatch enemies drawn into the singularity while you focus on other things.
Most skills in the Master tree will buff the health and damage output of either FL4K or his pet. To further ensure you don’t get killed easily, few skills offer excellent synergy. First, we have the Who Rescued Who? and All My BFF’s skills which will increase pet health regeneration and heal him each time you damage an enemy. This will ensure the pet is always at max health so he can take the fall once FL4K is at low health. In that regard, the Shared Spirit skill will make 50% of the damage go to the pet and if you still manage to enter a bleed-out state – the pet will instantly revive you thanks to the Lick the Wounds skill.
The pet will even reflect some of the damage to the enemies so FL4K can dispatch them more easily once he heals up. While this build makes you have to juggle many aspects of FL4K the beastmaster, it’s precisely the main source of the fun you’ll have while playing it. Because, you can’t exactly have the beastmaster without a powerful beast at his side.
