6. Item Power in Albion Online: Gear Strength Explained

Item Power (IP) is Albion’s way of measuring gear strength. It directly influences your damage, healing output, and survivability. Almost every piece of equipment contributes to your total IP, and higher IP unlocks access to more challenging content such as Faction Warfare, Corrupted Dungeons, and Hardcore Expeditions.

Item Power comes from three main sources:

  • Item Tier: Each tier jump provides a large IP boost (+100). A Tier 5 weapon has more IP than a Tier 4 weapon.
  • Enchantments: Items can have enchantment levels (.1, .2, .3, .4). For example, a T4.3 weapon can rival or even surpass the power of a flat T6 weapon.
  • Specialization: Fame earned in specific weapons or armor increases specialization, which adds passive IP to all items in that line. Specializing deeply in one weapon family makes you much stronger with it.

IP is not just a number—it gates content. Many activities require a minimum IP to participate effectively:

  • Faction Warfare: Requires at least 700 IP to earn full rewards.
  • Corrupted Dungeons: Requires 700 IP for Hunter level, 900 IP for Stalker level, and 1100 IP for Slayer level.
  • Hardcore Expeditions: Scale in difficulty based on average group IP.

Understanding IP is vital for both PvE and PvP. New players often make the mistake of bringing underpowered gear into dangerous zones, only to be overwhelmed. A smart approach is to balance cost with IP: cheap 4.1 or 4.2 sets can achieve competitive IP while minimizing losses in full-loot zones.
