Total War: Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires Released in Beta and New DLC Launch

Warhammer 3 has finally had its Immortal Empires game mode released into beta. The sandbox game mode has been long awaited and comes with a major rework to many factions and mechanics. This release also comes with the new Champions of Chaos DLC, and the Blood for the Blood God III effects package.

Total War: Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires Released in Beta and New DLC Launch

The Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires Beta has been described by the team as “the most ambitious project – and hands-down the most complicated one – we’ve ever attempted”. Given the scale of this game mode it will have to spend some time in beta. This is to ensure that neither technical issues or faction balancing problems undermine the game. However it is considered ‘Content Complete’ at the launch of the beta.

The highly anticipated launch of Immortal Empires for the already beloved Warhammer 3 also coincides with the release of 2 additional DLCs. The Champions of Chaos DLC, which brings new legendary lords to the Chaos factions, and the effects package Blood for the Blood God III.

Here’s what we know about the new game mode.

Immortal Empires Beta

The Immortal Empires game mode is the purest form of Total War gameplay in the Warhammer universe. Unlike the main game which has campaign specific goals to achieve and a narrative, this mode lets the player forge their empire however they like. This game mode is much more akin to a sandbox. The game mode is free to those who own the game and will download automatically.

The beta comes with 86 Legendary Lords and 23 races, however how many you have access to will depend on what DLCs you have downloaded across the 3 Total War: Warhammer games. New features have been released as well, including the ‘Sea Lanes’ Mechanic, which allows the player to circumnavigate the world without the turns long wait of previous games.

The Immortal Empires Beta also features the largest map to date in any Total War game. The total number of settlements is a whopping 554, with 278 starting factions.

Other notable features include

  • Dedicated factions for previous Legendary Lords such as Volkmar the Grim and Helman Ghorst.
  • A rework to the Corruption mechanic, with new ways to spread and remove the various factions corruption.
  • Randomised and Dynamic End Game Scenarios. This is to prevent the late-game boredom associated with being too powerful. Details are light on the ground at the moment as to what exactly this means, but it seems likely to be similar to the Chaos Invasions.
  • Be’lakor has his own faction now and is a playable Legendary Lord from the start.

Champions of Chaos DLC

The Champions of Chaos DLC is being released alongside the Immortal Empires Beta. This DLC brings 4 new Legendary Lords to the game, double the usual 2 we get with a DLC. Each Chaos faction gets a new lord, which are listed below.

  • Khorne – Valkia the Bloody
  • Slaneesh – Azazel, Prince of Damnation
  • Nurgle – Festus the Leechlord
  • Tzeentch – Vilitch the Curseling

The DLC comes with over 50 new units, including Chaos Knights and the War shrine of Chaos. These lords can be used in either Immortal Empires or The Realm of Chaos campaign. However, they appear to have their own campaign and narrative, set around gaining the favour of the Chaos Gods in the Arena-city of Zanbaijin.

Lastly, each of these new lords will have variations on the mechanics used by the other Chaos Lords.

Blood for the Blood God III Effects Package

The last part of this Total War: Warhammer bonanza is the release of Blood for the Blood God III. This is free for those who own either of the Blood for the Blood God 1 and 2 packages. The effects package turns up the gore in the game. There will be more blood, dismemberment, and beheadings. It’s a simple addition, but it does help make the violent world of Warhammer feel a little more actualised.

Further details on the new releases can be found on the Total War Blog.
