Excited for Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide? The new paid downloadable content for Final Fantasy XVI was announced earlier this month and after releasing on April 18th, it’s slated to be the last – the 16th edition of Square Enix’s flagship game series is set to wrap up. Maxing out Clive’s level to 50 can usually be done by playing the game as normal, but if you’re looking to finish his skill tree before the launch of The Rising Tide or because you want to get the game’s vaunted platinum trophy, you’re going to need to put on your overalls, grab your pitchfork and engage in some good old fashion JRPG farming before the launch of the DLC rolls around. This guide will show you the best post-game farming spot and tactics for ability points in Final Fantasy XVI featuring one key item: The Wages of Warcraft.
To completely unlock all of the Eikon abilities in Final Fantasy XVI and upgrade them to the masterclass level, you need to get about 120,000 ability points overall. It sounds like it could take awhile but there’s a trick where you can earn approximately 1,300 AP in just mere seconds in a battle that can be restarted over and over again. However, this strategy requires you to have already beaten the game as its most efficient with New Game+ unlocked. Also before we start, I’d like to note that this guide assumes that the player is in Final Fantasy mode rather than Story-Focused mode as the latter nets you less ability points per kill.
Here’s a brief summary of the setup you need to maximize farming AP in the best post-game farming spot in Final Fantasy XVI:
- Obtain The Wages of Warcraft 2 accessory by visiting the blacksmith.
- Equip it to Clive along with a first level Wage of Warcraft accessory.
- Go to the Kingdom of Waloed and fast travel to the Ravenwit Walls in Kritten Hollow.
- Ride your Chocobo across the open field until you encounter a group of Hyenas Defeat the Hyenas, queue up the fast travel again, and rinse and repeat the process.
If done correctly, you should gain a ridiculous 1,280 ability points every single time you take out this pack of hyenas, who are extremely weak and very easy to pick apart. The battle should be over in seconds, and you can start it up again, creating yourself a nice little farming loop. This nets 1,280 ability points because of the Wages of War accessories you have equipped. The second level one grants you a 40% AP boost while the second one adds another 20%, bringing you to a staggering total of 60% AP earned per combat. However, it is to be noted that the Wages of War accessories only boost AP in normal combat encounters.
Not only do these enemies give you tons of ability points, they also drop goblin coins, which sell for 800 gil each! So if you need the gil for any reason, this method will also help in that aspect.

Obtain the Wages of Warcraft Accessories – The Best Farming Tool
To obtain The Wages of Warcraft, you have to pay a visit to Charon the shopkeeper. Make sure to purchase three of them – they cost $37,500 gil each – because in New Game+ mode, you can combine two of them to create The Wages of Warcraft 2 accessory at the blacksmith, which gives Clive a massive 40% AP Boost but only uses one equipment slot. Note that you can only purchase three of them if you’re in New Game+, otherwise, two is the maximum, which yields you a 40% AP boost, which still is a pretty nice boost. Furthermore, you can equip another first level Wages of Warcraft accessory to Clive, bringing up his total AP boost to 60%.F If you’re on your first run through of the game, keep in mind that you won’t be able to purchase The Wages of Warcraft until you complete the “Cid the Outlaw” mission.
Farming at Ravenwit Walls – The Best Post-Game Farming Spot
Now that you have your farming equipment, it’s time to get to it. In the picture above, you will see the exact location on the map where the hyenas are. As soon as you spawn, make a beeline for them on top of your Chocobo. The place is close to Kritten Hollow, about 340 yards from where you spawn by the obelisk. It shouldn’t take you long at all to get there, but once you’re there, clear out the enemies as quickly as possible (they are very easy to defeat), queue up your fast travel, and rinse and repeat the process to your heart’s content. For the battle, I highly recommend drawing the hyenas as close together as possible and then hitting them with Flame of Rebirth (which becomes available for use after completing the “Sunrise, Sunset” main quest and beginning “Lost in a Fog”). to destroy them all. If done right, you should one-shot each enemy without them even hitting you. However, any combat tactic that you’re used to employing should work, just use your most powerful go-to method – whichever one you’re most comfortable with – and they’ll easily fall.
The Result
The result should be you maxing out and upgrading every single one of Clive’s Eikon abilities in about an hour or so. With the accessories equipped to Clive, each battle nets you 1,280 ability points. And since each run of the hyena fight takes about 90 seconds, including the time it takes for you to spawn and ride your Chocobo there, you’d earn approximately 57,000 ability points per hour. That means if you never even touched Clive’s Eikon skill tree, you could max it out in just over two hours by using this method! Realistically, since you’ve been playing the game and using and upgrading Clive’s Eikon abilities for a while, you’ll only really need to grind for an hour or so to get to the 120,000 AP mark and max him out.
