Square Enix unveiled their new Final Fantasy 16 site today, which introduces players to the world and characters of the upcoming game. Fans can check out some background info about the game’s protagonists, or learn about the realms and features they’ll encounter while playing. You can also rewatch the game’s “Awakening” trailer on the website, or look at some pretty cool new game art.
In terms of characters, the website introduces us properly to the game’s main characters. Siblings Clive and Joshua Rosfield, as well as Jill Warrick, are the central figures of the game who we’ve glimpsed in trailers. Clive is a swordsman, tasked with protecting his younger brother Joshua, who is the “Dominant of the Phoenix”. Meanwhile, Jill is a close friend to both brothers, as she grew up alongside them. After tragedy befalls Clive at the hands of Ifrit (a classic Final Fantasy summon), he sets out for revenge. Apparently, Clive is the same person as the tattooed man seen in the game’s first trailer, meaning we’ll see him grow up at some point in the game – or possibly see his younger self in a flashback.

There’s also lots of info about the game’s world on the Final Fantasy 16 site. Players will explore the land of Valisthea, and learn about the Mothercrystals that populate it. There are six different realms in the game’s world, with all but one having an “Eikon”. These beings are like the summons of previous games in the series, so expect some familiar faces. And, each Eikon resides in a single person who can harness their power; for example, Joshua is the Dominant of his realm’s Eikon, the Phoenix. It seems like Eikons will be crucial to the games narrative. And, finally, players will learn of the Blight that has affected the peace between Valisthea’s realms. It wouldn’t be a Final Fantasy game without a rich world to enjoy. And, with the series returning to a fantasy setting, the game will hopefully build a new and exciting medieval adventure.
