Total War: Warhammer was the first game in its series based on a fictional Warhammer universe setting. It incorporates engrossing Empire, Dwarf, Greenskin, and Vampire campaigns in which to battle it out for supremacy. Fighting battles is one thing, but what you do on the campaign map is crucial to emerging victorious. The following Total War: Warhammer tips for campaigns will pave the way to victory.
Don’t Make too Many Enemies
Fighting too many wars can be the slippery road to defeat in Warhammer TW campaigns. The more enemies you’re fighting at once, the more armies and units you’ll need to handle them all. However, there’s always a limit to how many units you can recruit. Your faction might get swamped by enemy armies if you declare more wars than you can handle at any one time.
Try to focus on fighting and defeating one or two enemies at a time during campaigns. Sometimes factions might declare war on you, and when that happens, consider making a temporary peace with another enemy. Don’t be tempted to participate in wars you don’t need to fight when other factions offer money for military support.
Maintain Public Order in Your Settlements
If you ignore public order in your settlements, you’ll end up fighting rebel armies and enemy factions. Fighting such uprisings will tie up military resources, and you can lose settlements because of them. Therefore, public order isn’t something you can afford to ignore in Total War: Warhammer campaigns.
The best way to maintain positive public order in settlements is to build Holstery buildings like Tap Rooms and Taverns. Make sure at least one settlement in every province includes some Holstery buildings. In addition, select commandments that raise public order in provinces.
Manually Save Games
Total War: Warhammer automatically saves campaigns every turn. So, you don’t ever need to save campaigns manually. If things go drastically wrong in a campaign, however, you won’t be able to put them right when you can only restore a saved game from your last turn.
Therefore, it’s a good idea to manually save a campaign game every 25-50 turns (preferably at good points) just in case things go very wrong later. Then you can always go back to a manually saved game 25-50 turns earlier if you start to mess up a campaign. Thus, a manually saved game might save you from having to completely restart a campaign.
Don’t be Afraid to Autoresolve Battles
Fighting battles on the battlefield is a big part of the fun in Total War: Warhammer. However, that doesn’t mean you must always do so. The autoresolve feature in the game will seldom let you down when you have any degree of military superiority for battles. Beginner players might even win more battles by selecting the autoresolve option to settle them. So, don’t be afraid to autoresolve battles whenever the red/yellow power bar is only marginally in your favor.
Build Military Buildings in Capitals
You can only upgrade province capitals to include level four and five buildings. As you can upgrade many military buildings to those higher levels, it’s best to build your army recruitment buildings in your capitals. Don’t waste capital slots on infrastructure buildings that you can fully upgrade to level three at smaller settlements.
Pay Attention to Diplomacy
It might be total war, but maintaining good relations with other factions through diplomacy is important to winning campaigns. You can fulfill campaign objectives by establishing military alliances with factions that have provinces you need to secure. Alliances with factions of the same race can pave the way for establishing confederations to seize control of province objectives without fighting.
Factions with which you have better relations will also be more willing to establish lucrative trade agreements. Thus, improving faction relations with non-aggression pacts and other treaties can pay off in more ways than one. Also, be willing to give gifts to some factions (especially those of the same race) to maintain better relations with them.
Scout the Map With Heroes
Heroes are units that can move through other factions’ territories without incurring trespass penalties. Even if you don’t use heroes’ actions much, it’s always worth recruiting a few of them just for the sake of scouting the maps. They’re useful for scouting the locations of Chaos armies you’ll need to defeat in campaigns.
Finish Off Enemy Armies After Battle Victories
You don’t have to end battles as soon as they’re over. You can inflict heavier losses on routing units by chasing them down after a victorious battle. Use faster-moving cavalry units to annihilate routing units before they disappear from the battlefield.
After defeating an army, what’s left of it will usually retreat to a nearby position on the map. Always make sure you launch a follow-up attack on a defeated army to finish it off. If you let a retreating army escape, that force can replenish its losses to fight another day.
Keep Your Armies Together
When you’ve got a few full-size (20-unit) armies to play with, try to keep those armies close together in your wars. Keep your armies close enough together so that they can reinforce each other for battles. You’ll need to keep your armies within their red circles to ensure you can fight with all of their units in the same battles. Then you’ll have a much easier time crushing enemy factions with two or more armies combined.
The above Total War: Warhammer tips for campaigns will make it easier to fulfill objectives for all playable races in the game. Winning battles will be much simpler if you get things right on the campaign map. Now it’s time to smash your enemies in whatever Total War: Warhammer campaign you’re playing!
