The Medium only came out just over four months ago on January 28th, on PC and Xbox Series X/S, and a PS5 port is already on the cards. Although the third-person horror game’s rating on the ESRB site has since been deleted, other sources, like those at Destructoid and ComingSoon, were able to grab it before being scrapped. The rating is as follows:
This is an adventure horror game in which players assume the role of a medium investigating an abandoned communist resort in Poland. As players explore dilapidated buildings, they can transition to a spiritual, hellish realm to help solve puzzles and interact with characters. Some interactions unlock sequences that depict instances of violence: a character shooting a girl (off-screen); a character beating and choking a bound man from a first-person view; a man being pummeled by another character. Some areas depict large blood stains on the walls and floors; one sequence depicts a bathtub full of blood. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the game.
What would normally make this supposed PS5 port for The Medium surprising is that console exclusivity for a game is usually around a year. Upon release, it was even a major face on the Xbox Game Pass line-up. However, with Bloober Team entering a publishing partnership with Koch Media back in March, the announcement isn’t a total shock. Being the publisher specifically for the physical “box releases worldwide”, both The Medium and Observer: System Redux, it makes sense if both Koch and Bloober Team themselves want to reach as many further players as possible.
E3 2021 is just around the corner, so if we’re going to be seeing any additional news about The Medium on PS5 soon, it’d be there. Otherwise, we might have to wait for another digital PlayStation Showcase. That or a simple trailer drop, of course.
