Mario Kart World: Races Without Borders in an Interconnected Open World

Mario Kart World revolutionizes the series with an open world where tracks are interconnected. Explore, compete, and use new mechanics like rail grinding and survival mode. Available on June 5, 2025, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.

Mario Kart World: Races Without Borders in an Interconnected Open World

During the Nintendo Direct on April 2, where the Nintendo Switch 2 was introduced, a preview of the new Mario Kart World was shown. Instead of being called Mario Kart 9, this installment is titled Mario Kart World. The game will be released along with the console on June 5, 2025.

The name makes sense, as Mario Kart World will feature an open world. This will be made up of different tracks interconnected through a dynamic overworld with weather changes.

This new structure will influence the cups, which will still consist of four circuits, but now moving between them will be part of the competition. It will also be possible to freely explore this world, either alone or with others, and enjoy the scenarios with a photo mode included in the game.

The title will include vehicles that adapt to different terrains, capable of transforming into snow gliders or boats. Additionally, players will be able to slide on railings, cables, and walls to gain an advantage in races.

Another featured game mode is Survival mode, in which players must avoid being in a position lower than the one set at the next checkpoint, as failing to do so will result in elimination. As the name suggests, the winner will be the last one standing.

Mario Kart World will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 and will be available from June 5, 2025, the same day as the console launch. Additionally, a bundle that includes the game and console will be available for $499 USD.
