The Best Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Kart Builds

Victory in Nintendo’s Mario Kart starts with your kart. You are only as strong as your weakest link as they say, so you don’t want to begin your race with a poor kart combination. There are many different kart, tire, and character matchups in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and scrolling through all of them can be a pain. So we have done the testing for you and discovered some of the best Mario Kart 8 setups to start your race off on a good foot (or tire).

Pick Your Poison

All of the Mario Kart characters are separated into three weight classes. Light, medium, or heavy. Each class has its strengths and weaknesses which will in turn effect the overall stats of your kart.

Light characters have a slower max speed, but far better acceleration and handling. Heavy characters have a slower acceleration but a higher top speed and can squash lighter characters. Medium characters fit somewhere in the middle.

If you’re wondering what class your favorite character is in, you can view all of them here.

Every Mario Kart 8 victory starts with your kart combos.

The character you choose can either compliment or work against your play style. So the first step to the perfect kart match-up is to figure out how you race and know your character classes.

If you prefer speed and power it is best to go with a heavy character, but if you like your karts to be easier to control and maneuver around the course, a lighter character would be the best pick for you.

Kart Stats

Every choice matters when building your kart, but navigating the stats can be difficult when you’re not sure what they mean. There are five overall stats that dictate the performance of your kart:

Speed: The highest top speed your kart can reach.
Acceleration: How fast your kart can reach top speed.
Weight: Dictates whether you knock other players off the course, or get knocked yourself.
Handling: How easy your kart is to control around corners. Better handling improves drifting and mini-turbos.
Grip: This gives your Kart more traction to drive faster over snow or sand and slip less on ice.

By pressing the – button in the kart build menu, you can see your kart’s overall stats. These stats will constantly change as you move through the different karts.

Once you have chosen your character, it is a good idea to find a kart setup that improves your character’s skills or balances them out. This is a fine line to walk, however, as you don’t want to balance out your character’s skills to the point where you minimise their strengths.

The Best Mario Kart Setups

A lot of building your supreme kart depends on your own personal preferences. But if you aren’t keen on sifting through all the options, we believe we have found the best combinations in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. We have included gliders in these kart combos, although we don’t believe they make much of a difference to the speed or efficiency of your Mario Kart setup. But the Peach Parasol, Super Glider, or Wario Wing are great options if you’re looking for some cool ones to spice up your setup.

These combinations wont include any of the special reward items, like the Gold Tires.

The Fastest Mario Kart

This setup reaches almost peak speed and is also heavy enough to squash any pesky players that get in your way. It is also super bad*ss.

Character: Dry Bowser, Donkey Kong, or Rosalina.
Kart: B-Dasher.
Tires: Slick or Cyber Slick Tires.
Glider: Bowser Kite.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

If you prefer to play the long game, this kart match-up provides superior acceleration, handling, and grip. It does have a slower overall speed, but if you play your drifts right, and collect 10 coins you can get speed boosts to balance this out in the race.

Character: Toadette or Baby Daisy.
Kart: Flame Rider, or Standard Bike.
Tires: Ancient Tyres.
Glider: Flower Glider.

This build focuses on superior grip and handling, as well as excellent acceleration.

Bikes are a great option for a Mario Kart setup, they do require a little more getting used to but they are great vehicles, especially if you wanna look good while you’re doing it.

The Race is On

At the end of the day, building the best kart for you is mainly based on your personal preference and play style. But whether you play it safe or laugh in the face of danger, these two Mario Kart 8 builds should give you a good chance to snag the win.
