Windrose currently has eight weapon types: Rapier, Saber, Club, Halberd, Greatsword, Pistol, Musket, and Blunderbuss. Those weapon families scale with Precision, Agility, or Strength, while Mastery boosts critical chance across all builds rather than acting as a weapon-specific scaling stat.
The easiest way to understand weapon acquisition is to split it into three groups. The current weapon pool includes starter gear, standard Uncommon weapons, and higher-tier Rare and Epic named weapons.
1. How Weapon Progression Works
Starter/default weapons are simply what you begin with or always have access to. Uncommon and most Rare weapons are crafted through the Weaponsmith once you have their recipe and materials. Epic weapons are the upgraded versions of Rare weapons, and the current upgrade system uses Tumbaga Ingots at the Weaponsmith Station to ascend eligible Rare weapons into Epic versions.
Weapon progression is split into three tiers:
- Uncommon weapons are your first craftable upgrades after finding the original version.
- Rare weapons are stronger named weapons unlocked through wilderness finds (Pirate Chests, Buried Chests), quests, fishing, or enemy drops.
- Epic weapons are usually upgraded versions of the corresponding Rare weapon done at Weaponsmith.
2. Uncommon Melee Weapons
These are your first real melee upgrades after the tutorial. Most of them unlock once you loot the first copy during exploration, then you can craft replacements whenever you have the materials.
| Weapon | How to Unlock | How to Craft |
|---|---|---|
| Broken Blade | Tutorial unlock | Starting weapon |
| Club | Exploration unlock — loot the first copy during exploration | 10 Wood, 5 Copper Ingot |
| Halberd | Exploration unlock — loot the first copy during exploration | 10 Wood, 7 Copper Ingot |

| Saber | Exploration unlock — loot the first copy during exploration | 7 Copper Ingot, 2 Rough Hide |
| Two-Handed Sword | Exploration unlock — loot the first copy during exploration | 10 Copper Ingot, 2 Rough Hide |
3. Rare and Epic Melee Weapons
This is where melee builds start to separate into stronger named options. Rare weapons are the first major upgrades, while Epic versions are their stronger follow-up form. When a weapon has both, the Epic version is unlocked by upgrading the Rare one.
| Weapon | Rare Unlock | Rare Craft | Epic Unlock | Epic Craft |

5. Rare and Epic Ranged Weapons

6. Best Early Weapons to Use
The best early weapons in Windrose are the ones that give you a strong return without forcing you into expensive upgrade paths too early. In practice, that means using a Common weapon that matches your chosen stat build, then moving into one or two standout Rare weapons as soon as they unlock.
- Rapier: It is one of the best starting melee choices if you want a clean early Precision build, because it shares scaling with Pistol and Musket.
- Reliable Pistol: If you want a stronger pistol line without changing your stat build, this is one of the best early-to-mid choices because it fits naturally beside Rapier and gives you a cleaner ranged option than the basic Pistol.
- Saber: For a fast melee build, Saber is the safest early Agility option. It is easier to slot into a starter build than a heavier Two-Handed Sword.
- Rapier of a Thousand Cuts: It keeps the rapier playstyle, adds much stronger long-term value, and uses the same basic stat path as your ranged backup weapons.
- Cutlass or Razor: If you stay on the saber path, Cutlass and Razor are the cleanest early Rare follow-ups. Both keep the same fast melee identity, and both scale with Agility.
