Windrose – How to Fast Travel and Farm Bells

Windrose gets much easier once fast travel is up and running. The guide helps you unlock bells early, place better travel points, and cut down the long return trips that slow progress.

Fasst Travel WindroseFast travel in Windrose is one of the most important systems to unlock early because the map opens up quickly, and long return trips can waste a huge amount of time. Once you start moving between islands, dungeons, mines, and faction areas, relying only on your ship turns every loot run into a chore. Check out our beginner’s guide to learn the basics to get started in Windrose.

1. How Fast Travel Works in Windrose

Fast Travel

Fast Travel

Fast travel in Windrose does not unlock immediately. You need to progress far enough into the opening hours to start smelting Copper Ingots, discover a Fast Travel Bell, and then build at least two Fast Travel Points in different locations. One point by itself does nothing, so the system only becomes useful once a second node is placed somewhere else.

How to Fast Travel

  • On foot: interact with a Fast Travel Point and travel to another point.
  • At sea: while steering your ship, open the map and travel to any placed Fast Travel Point as long as you are not in combat or being chased. You can call your ship by pressing K.

There are also some pre-existing fast travel points in the world, especially around important faction locations. These become usable after you have visited them at least once, which makes major hubs easier to revisit later.

2. How to Unlock the Fast Travel Bell

The first Fast Travel Bell is found very early, inside the Smuggler’s Cache near the starting area or a Supply Cache. It is hidden under debris, and once you clear the entrance and loot the chest inside, the bell becomes available, and the recipe is effectively introduced to your game.

Use these steps to unlock it:

  1. Progress through the opening beach area until you can safely explore nearby points of interest.
  2. Search near your starting shoreline for the hidden Smuggler’s Cache entrance.
  3. Break the debris covering the entrance.
  4. Go underground and defeat the enemy inside if needed.
  5. Open the chest in the den to get your first Fast Travel Bell.

After the recipe is unlocked, you can craft additional Fast Travel Bells at the Workbench. The bell itself is not the placed travel node, but it is one of the materials needed to keep building new Fast Travel Points across the world.

4. How to Build a Fast Travel Point

Fast Travel point

To use a Fast Travel Bell, you need to place a Fast Travel Point from the building menu. This is the structure you interact with to teleport, and it must be placed near water rather than somewhere inland. If you try to drop it in the middle of an island, it will not work. You will need 1x Fast Travel Bell and 20x Wood to craft a Fast Travel Point.

Use these steps to place one:

  1. Press B to open the build menu.
  2. Go to the Crafting & Utilities tab and select Fast Travel Point.
  3. Walk to a coastline, dock edge, or shoreline.
  4. Place the structure close to the water.
  5. Repeat the process in another location so you have at least two active points.

5. How to Teleport to Base

Homeward Journey is the fastest emergency return option in Windrose because it teleports you straight back to your current revival point instead of sending you to a placed Fast Travel Point. It works best when you are deep in a dungeon, overloaded with loot, or stranded far from the shoreline and do not want to run all the way back manually.

Homeward Journey is crafted at a Level 2 Alchemy Table and uses 3 Alchemical Base, 1 Rum Bottle, 5 Feathers, and 1 Undead Essence

To craft Homeward Journey consistently:

  • Build a Level 2 Alchemy Table first. This requires both the Alchemy Table and the Stove and Pot in the same bonfire setup.
  • Unlock the recipe by collecting the required materials. The recipe becomes available once you have seen the needed ingredients.
  • Gather Alchemical Base by crafting Clay Bottles at the Alchemy Table.
  • Find Rum Bottles in sailor camps, pirate loot, or from early main-quest sailor fights.
  • Collect Feather from wildlife such as Azure Dodos.
  • Get Undead Essence from Drowned enemies that appear at night or from certain undead-related quests.

6. Best Farming Loop for Bells

Copper Mine location

Copper Mine location

  1. Mine enough Copper to keep a steady ingot stockpile.
  2. Smelt copper into Copper Ingots as soon as possible.
  3. Gather Plant Fiber during normal island travel.
  4. Turn that fiber into Rope at your base.
  5. Craft Fast Travel Bells in batches instead of one at a time.
  6. Keep at least one spare bell in storage and one set of point materials on you when exploring.

7. How Many Fast Travel Points You Can Have

You can maintain up to 10 active Fast Travel Points at the same time. That is a generous limit, but it also means placement still matters. If you waste all 10 on random shorelines, you will eventually need to dismantle older nodes when moving into later biomes or better farming routes.
