Silver is one of the most important early resources in Subnautica 2 because it directly affects how far you can explore. You need it for the Standard Air Tank, which increases your oxygen capacity, and you also need it for Wiring Kits, Silver Ingots, and later electronics.
Because Silver usually appears inside caves or deeper routes, it is easy to miss if you only search the open seabed.
1. How to Get Silver in Subnautica 2
Silver is found in cave systems, deeper routes, and clustered deposits. You can collect small pieces by hand, break medium Silver nodes with a basic tool, and mine larger node deposits later with the Sonic Resonator.
- Start from the Lifepod and travel north / north-northeast toward Camp One or the Old Habitat area.
- Look for cave entrances under or near the colony ruins. This cave has neon flowers, making it easy to spot that you’re in the right place.
- Search cave walls, floors, and clustered node areas.
- Pick up small pieces and break medium deposits.
- Return once you have at least 3 Silver: 2 for the Standard Air Tank and 1 for your first Wiring Kit.
2. Best Silver Location
The best early Silver location is the cave system near Camp One / Old Habitat, north or north-northeast of the Lifepod. This area is strong because Silver appears in clusters, and several routes place it close enough to reach before you have advanced tools.
| Silver Location | Direction From Lifepod | Approx. Distance |
|---|---|---|
| Camp One caves | North / northeast | Around 240 m+ |
| Old Habitat cave route | North | Around 350 m |
| Anita blackbox / nearby cave route | North / northeast | Around 130–180 m+ |
| Stalagmite area near Chap’s Blackbox | Southeast | Around 200 m |
| Colonist Bunker cave | West / southwest of the Digestion Angel Comb | Around 180 m |
3. How to Mine Silver Nodes
Silver can appear in different node sizes. You should collect small pieces first because they are the fastest and safest. Larger deposits become more useful later, after you have better tools.
| Node Type | How to Collect | Best Time to Farm |
|---|---|---|
| Small nodes | Pick up by hand | Best early option |
| Medium nodes | Break with a basic tool | Good once you can safely stay in caves longer |
| Large deposits | Mine with the Sonic Resonator | Best later farming option |
4. Silver Uses and Crafting Recipes
Silver is mainly used for oxygen purification, electronics, and refined materials. Your first priority should be the Standard Air Tank, because more oxygen makes every future resource run safer.
| Recipe / Item | Full Recipe | Main Use |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Air Tank | 2 Titanium + 1 Rubber + 2 Silver | Increases oxygen capacity for longer dives |
| Wiring Kit | 1 Silver + 1 Copper Wire | Used for electronics, tools, stations, and advanced components |
| Silver Ingot | 3 Silver | Refined material used in later crafting |
| Wakemaker | 1 Silver + 1 Wiring Kit + 1 Grease + 1 Basic Battery | Movement tool for faster swimming |
| System Chip | 1 Wiring Kit + 2 Quartz | Electronics component for scanner/base systems |
| Dedicated Core | 1 Advanced Wiring Kit + 2 Quartz + 1 Strong Acid | Advanced component; requires an Advanced Wiring Kit, which starts from a Wiring Kit |
| Advanced Battery | 1 Conduit Crystal + 1 Strong Acid + 1 Silver Ingot | Advanced power component |
| Tadpole Dock | 2 Titanium Ingot + 1 Silver Ingot + 2 Copper Wire | Vehicle/base progression |
| Hydroelectric Turbine | 3 Titanium + 3 Copper + 3 Silver | Base power generation |
5. Best Tips to Farm Silver Faster
Silver is easier to farm once you stop searching open water and focus on cave routes. Start with the Angel Comb route north of the Lifepod, then scan the nearby cave walls and floors for clustered deposits.
- Check the Jelly Lei cave / Angel Comb route north of the Lifepod first, around 180–200 meters north, because it has early nodes and is close to progression landmarks.
- Search the Old Habitat / Camp One caves next, around 240–400 meters north or north-northeast, especially the caves near the ruined colony structures.
- Try the Necrolei Fields route around 370 meters north/northwest of the Lifepod if you want another area with ore along the ground and cliff walls.
- Use the Stalagmite area around 200 meters southeast of the Lifepod for Silver Outcrops, but save this route for after you have the Sonic Resonator.
- Check cave walls, ceilings, floors, and cliff surfaces slowly because Silver nodes can be easy to miss.
- Craft the Standard Air Tank first, then save extra for Wiring Kits, Silver Ingots, and later electronics.
